I got my Aqueon 30 with a 29g kit, set it up, and haven't had a single problem with it since. Ditched the pads and just threw some coarse sponge at the bottom with some floss on top. It's my second oldest filter, and the oldest one I still have running.

I loved my original QuietFlow 10 so much, I now have two 10s and a 30, and love them. Pretty darn quiet, easy to block the intake with sponges, easy to maintain, easy to throw some extra floss in and around the blue outflow tray to make it even more quiet. My 30 is now about 5 years old and still works like new. ❤

Hi Jason! I am not gonna lie, I was expecting a bad review of this filter. So many say it is inadequate, probably because it comes in Aqueon tank kits. I have 2 that I have never had an issue with. The only thing I dislike is not being able to adjust the flow. I just don't use them in tanks with fish that prefer slow water movement. I find them to be very quiet and I like that the motor is submerged. Never had one not restart after a power outage.

Thanks Jason for this review. I just bought a used 40G Tall aquarium to upsize until I can get the 55G aquascaped, cycled, and balanced. I will be using my 10G for Quarantining to make sure that I don't get any surprises. He also gave me the Aqueon QuietFlow 30 Water Filter and Light. I'll need a lid and a heater. I appreciate this review because, I want to be able to put bulk Floss and Polishing Floss into the Filter to help clean up the water once the substrate and starts to settle. I have watched a bunch of videos and learned how to accomplish this without causing too much of a cloudy mess, but I am still a newbie. I got my first Betta 1.7G Tank Kit back on 10/27/2022 which was my 70th birthday present to myself. Thanks for helping me to be more confident in not sticking to the stock filter cartridge. I have been recycling/transferring my filters as I breakdown and redesigning my tanks to experiment with the different substrate layering techniques. I have those ceramic BioMedia both crushed and Beads. This way, I can share the Biological Bacteria so that when I start a new tank, the Fish, Invertebrates, and Plants are used to the water and to the Bacteria load. Thanks Again. Much Appreciated

Yup. I agree aqueon has a gem here. I have had aqua clears and I still use them but they rattle and never restart. The marine land filters are too big but they work. But these are really great. Lots of built in surface area and auto restart after power failure with the pump in the water. Nice size, quiet, reliable, and cheap from what I remember. I may go get another for my 40 breeder to replace the aqua clear.

Aqueon HOB filter was the first filter I ever used when starting the hobby. Ten years later it is still my favorite hang on back filter. After a few years they occasionally just die, but most of mine I have had for +5 years now and they are still running. I have noticed this happens if I unplug it to do maintenance then when I replug it it doesn't start. Nothing lasts for ever. I am very happy with this filter, especially for the price since they go on sale often at Petco.

I agree. My first filters were the Aqueon 10 gallons in kits. They were great! I “upgraded” to an Aquaclear later, but the lack of self-priming drove me crazy. I like HOBs because you don’t have to stick your whole hand in the water to maintain them. I will say I broke one of my Aqueon filters in my multi tank because they kept burying the intake…even with an intake sponge, that was too much sand for it! Lesson learned!

Yeah for many years I have known to Aqueon filters to be some of the best honestly and you can even customize these filters as well they are true workhorses the AquaClear I just don't like them that outside motor that old design but the ones you mentioned Aqueon seachem Tidal Marineland Pro except for the Marineland Pro only issue is they did not design it right it's a little large and it pushes your aquarium glass up past the rim other than that all three of these are great filters I have used

I had one of these filters about 10 or 12 years ago. The filter worked fine, and I agree on the ease of cleaning. But it also died on me in about 3 years. Impeller was fine, so either the motor or the electrical connection failed. I replaced it with an AC which has been running ever since, but I'm sure most last longer than mine did. I still have it in some container of equipment in the basement, because fishkeepers never throw anything away.

My favorite filter is the tetra whisper IQ 60
@kimp7160
@kimp7160 Жыл бұрын
My daughter and I both have had Tetra Whispers in our tanks for over a year and they have been working quite well. I am cycling some sponges & media to modify them so we can get away from the cartridges. I had bought my 29H used and that came with an Aquaclear 50 so I'm cycling that one too on my now-empty 10 gallon. It cleared up that tank so well I do want to make the switch to the 29H in another week. The only filter I didn't like was a Tetra Whisper we had on our betta tank which was air-pump powered. It stopped sucking up water at the slightest bit of evaporation from the tank. Since we had the pump set-up already we just switched to a sponge filter. I also have a used Tetra HOB but when I tried setting it up it leaked all down the back of the tank and then that water leaked to the floor below. Though I may hang on to it as a last resort. I like hearing the long-term reviews. Money is a real consideration--even when buying used--and I like knowing my money is going towards good products. I now have a few back-up filters in case any one should fail, but if I ever need to buy a new one I will certainly consider this one.

I've used one of these for 3+ years now and never an issue. I tried an intake filter to avoid it picking up debris, but found it reduced the flow too much. Now I just clean the impeller about once a year. Rinsing the media is a breeze. The battery operated warning light seems a waste of time.

Hey Jason, have you tried the Aqueon SmartClean Power Filter 10-20 gallon? I saw it on amazon and took a chance for 25 bucks. It has a drain tube which makes water changes a little different, if you want to use it. Unlike the Quietflow 30 it does have flow adjustment. With the flow adjustment, I bet I could run it in a 5 gallon tank just fine.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I had my tank in my bedroom, I’d probably be happy with it, but the humming is so loud. I have both a tidal 35 and a Aquaclear 20 and they’re both way quieter. I also hate the design of the media area. Other than that, it’s very good for Walter polishing I guess

I am starting a 20gal... The Quietflow 10 says for 20gal tanks, but most reviews I've seen said they have it on a 10gal tank and may be ok for a 15gal... so I gather a bit weak on a 20gal. Would you recommend the QuietFlow 20 (30gal max) for a 20gal tank? Will be guppies and shrink, and will have a sponge on the intake tube. $10 cheaper than the AquaClear30 (a600) here in Canada, plus, remote area so random small power outtages... self priming sounds like a bonus. Thanks.

off topic issue.. KH & GH is Greek to me, when it comes to math or numbers my brain shuts down. I know what KH & GH stands for, all these other letters I assume has to do with measurements are way over my head. I do extensive online research, or try too but it is nearly impossible for me to comprehend. when it comes to this, I am a complete idiot. I am on community HOA government forced chemical well water in north Florida, Florida water co claims no chloramines are used only chlorine. testing my tap water with the API fresh water master test kit shows light green on the ammonia and my water has orange nitrate on the test. I have mostly larger tanks 55 gallon up to 125 gallon tanks, my smallest used tanks are 30's, I usually do my proper water changes double and triple dosing prime. yet my tanks after 3 - 7 days are showing low ammonia and very high nitrates. my tanks are cycled, not overly stocked and been set up 4+ years. I rarely lose fish but want better quality and want to get into shrimp and fish that would not survive my water conditions. I have ordered a 4 stage RODI system and some add on filter upgrades, I have seachem replenish that does nothing for live plants and other parameters, I will be ordering salty shrimp GH KH + but I need to learn to understand what I am doing.... can you point out any videos that may help or make a video for complete morons such as myself? thank you.
