Just my two cents, but I think you're being maybe a _little_ too critical of yourself in those earlier videos. You seemed fine to me. I do understand re-editing for copyright reasons, though.

A 3-finger salute to Donald Sutherland, our President Snow, who passed away 2 days ago 🪦🕊️

Fun fact: To get in shape for her role, Jennifer Lawrence underwent extensive training which included archery, rock & tree climbing, combat, running, parkour, & yoga. Not-so-fun fact: Although she was not seriously injured, she had an accident in which she hit a wall while running at full speed on the last day of her 6-week training phase. She also gave Josh Hutcherson a mild concussion after showing off her legwork, accidentally kicking him in the head.

The first time I watched this movie was during a college class in 2012 or 2013. My class was assigned to write a paper about it. I didn’t really know much about the movie beforehand because it wasn’t on my radar back then. I immediately became invested in the characters & story & eventually saw all of the sequels & the prequel in theaters.

RIP, Donald Sutherland, 1935-2024. He was a worthy adversary of Katniss Everdeen.

The three-finger thing is a salute, which is easy enough to tell from the context, but it is based on a customary gesture (in the _Hunger Games_ universe) used as a goodbye at funerals. So I suppose it has a double meaning at some points in these movies.

Many of the tributes from District 1 and especially District 2 (the two wealthiest districts) are trained in special schools for the Hunger Games from childhood, and when they're ready, they volunteer for the "honor" because they want to kill and win for the glory and riches (or die trying). Obviously, the vast majority of winners come from these two districts.

When you mentioned thinking of the parents watching their kids in the games I was thinking that during catching fire because two of the careers were siblings so not only did that parent have to watch their kids going to the arena survive years later they go back in and of course we'll be working together until it's basically everyone else is gone you are going to lose children one the other or both

I don't know if you noticed, but no one ever seems to react to Peeta's finger pointing at Cato's hand. Shooting him there was Peeta's idea, and fortunately Katniss got the message and placed her arrow perfectly.
@EvanRC916 ай бұрын
Fun fact: Other contenders for the role of Peeta included Alexander Ludwig (who was cast as Cato instead), Lucas Till (Havok from the X-Men prequels), & Evan Peters. Edit: Austin Butler revealed this week that he also auditioned for Peeta.

Yes, Haymitch was very traumatized by his own experience in the Hunger Games and the Capitol (he has quite the backstory), and is depressed from having trained so many wimpy District 12 tributes only to watch them die every time. There have been only two winners from that district in over 7 decades, and he is currently the only living one. Like Katniss to some degree, he doesn't want to like these new tributes, either. They're just going to die, after all.
@richardhoehn99226 ай бұрын
I recently read the Hunger Games trilogy, and am currently wrapping up Songbirds and Snakes. If you get the chance, check out Battle Royale, which plays out this same theme, except with a Japanese cast.Maybe reactions to The Purge franchise, since both Hunger Games and The Purge deal with the concept of governments allowing for the mass executions of citizens.

It's not quite that easy to make a usable bow that can kill someone, though. The string might be an issue, as well.
@rbrtck4 ай бұрын
The older you get, the more entries you're given for the Reaping, making it far more likely for older children to be selected than younger ones, although obviously that sometimes still happens. Additionally, you can get extra rations of flour and oil from the government by agreeing to having more entries. By the way, I don't think the latter (trading more entries for supplies) makes much sense, because if everyone did it, then everyone would have more entries, and it wouldn't make any difference, right? Or maybe it does work because everyone individually would simply be afraid to do it often or at all.

It's a good thing Cato wasn't really Steve Rogers, or everyone else would have been killed for sure. Even if it came to the situation at the end, he could easily have reacted to the arrow in flight, and even if he had fallen, he would have killed those creatures and then killed Katniss and Peeta. Of course, I know you were joking, but just imagine Rogers or any MCU supersoldier in the Hunger Games.

Honestly wish they would have kept this director for the whole series. It was gritty and disgusting instead of so stylized. Yeah we want to root for Katniss and the revolution, but they ended up making it seem clean and cool by the end of it. I think this director better captures the indignities of everything. Just look at Effie, yes she's dressed well, but her makeup is crunchy and startling. In the next movies they just flip it to be fashion icon. The next director misses the point in basically everything that what the Capitol does is ugly.

Katniss didn't talk to Peeta because she didn't want to like someone she might have to kill. Inside of that sometimes bitchy, aloof exterior, Katniss has a real soft spot for nice people, but to survive she believed that she might have to kill him, so why make friends? See how much she loved her sister? Soft spot isn't sufficient to describe how she feels. Katniss is capable of loving very deeply and selflessly, if she lets herself.

The Hunger Games would get boring for audiences, as well as take forever, if everyone were always hiding. That's why the gamemakers are always shaking things up. And every unfair thing they do serves to reinforce how the tributes, and by extension the people of all of the districts, are at the mercy of the Capitol.
