Hello, Chad! I am a student at the Concordia Seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil. Thank you for your videos, they have helped me a lot in studying the pericopes so I can preach them on the weekend. I wish you a blessed journey under God's blessing and protection!

Thanks for taking the time to post, Chad. I look forward to them each week and always learn something new. If you can take a look at Luke 5:4-6 in the NKJV and all other Bible versions and compare the word nets in each verse. NKJV verse 4 has "nets", however, verses 5 and 6 make this a singular "net". I watched a video of a pastor refer to this as Simon Peter's "partial obedience" to Jesus' command. How does this look in the Greek?

It's a case of differing Greek manuscript traditions. Of course, we do not have the original manuscripts of any biblical books. All that remain are handwritten copies. When these copies do not agree--and it's almost always in minor details like this one--then textual scholars have to weight the evidence to decide which reading is most likely the original. In this case, the translators of the NKJV went with Greek manuscripts that have a singular noun for "net" in vv. 5-6, while almost every other English translation went with the Greek manuscripts that have a plural noun for "nets" in those verses. This same kind of textual criticism is practiced on all ancient manuscripts, such as the writings of Homer, Greek and Roman philosophers, ancient historians, etc. Certainly, therefore, there is not sufficient evidence for a preacher to chide Peter for partial obedience. That's missing the whole point of the narrative anyway.

Thanks for the videos! I always love watching them when preaching on the Gospel text. I am thinking about a trip to the Holy Land with another area pastor and some church members in January of next year. Hopeful I can make it work! Blessings on your travels! Will you make any videos of the places you'll be at while you're over there?

Thanks, Brandon! This will be my first time over there, so I am really looking forward to it. If I do make some videos, they will be short and just with my iPhone. I'm going to wait and see how much time we have, etc. It would be great to capture some footage at the sites, though. God bless your plans for travel there as well.

Hey brother! Your stuff is so unique. Do you think any of the OT language led to the disciples' stubbornly clinging to the fixation that Jesus would bring judgment to the Gentiles while what He meant would be completely opposite? Ourselves and Matthew have resurrection-colored glasses, but with their hope for some form of Zionism (if I used that correctly, probably not), wouldn't the images for fishing for men have whetted their appetite to see their enemies judged and they would be getting front-and-center viewing for it? It's just conjecture on my part, but these interpretations and symbols really seem to explain the disciples' struggle to believe in Jesus' message of the Messiah taking on the judgment of God instead of mankind (who it turns out made themselves enemies of God this whole time). Also, this is a psychoanalyzing the Messiah (probably something we shouldn't do), but do you believe this could've been downlow bait-and-switch on Jesus' part (pun definitely intended)? Using their prejudice and desire for an overthrowing of their Gentile enemies against them, and in the end, turning their hearts towards the Gospel and resurrection by His Spirit, thus actually bringing completion to the Baptism and waters of chaos and judgment illustration through His disciples a bit?

Pretty sure the antiChrist comes from the sea in Revelation 13. Not much of a Bible scholar, but I remember that reference.
