Pastor Paul Washer once explained that He was feeling anguish not because of the pain He would feel but instead because the full wrath of God would be falling on Him due to our sins.

When a human being is under tremendous distress, it will affect the body: persperation and eventually blood will become mingled with sweat because the capalaries have ruptured. The only time that we are at that level of stress is in war and combat. Even stress during the usual difficulties of life don't create that effect. So can you imagine the pressure that he felt to bear our sins and be separated from God for a period of time as a result, something that he had never known in all eternity?

In a sea of commenters who say that Luke was speaking figuratively or metaphorically here, I dissent. I believe Jesus _was_ experiencing an incident of hematidrosis (either because He knew the physical torment He would soon endure, or because He knew the spiritual-emotional anguish He would experience, or both). In my opinion, it makes sense that Luke, a physician, would use graphic medical descriptions in the gospel account bearing his name. We see Luke's utilization of medical terminology in his gospel account that we don't see in the other gospels and epistles, like when he writes how Judas "burst asunder in the midst" of the pauper's field, causing his "bowels" to "gush out" (Acts 1:18 KJV).

More evidence but every single word in the Bible is true! Even if it doesn’t make logical sense or we can’t wrap our heads around it. It’s facts!

"like" sweating blood, ie, profusely
@Jason-Austin

When someone is soaked with sweat, we say they are "sweating bullets" Obviously, the person is not sweating literal bullets, it's an expression, a figure of speech, it's the same concept being used here, His sweat was _like_ droplets of blood falling to the ground.

Luke may have been speaking illustratively, that the sweat resembled blood dripping from a wound. An alternative idea was offered by Dr. William D. Edwards in The Journal of the American Medical Association: “Although this is a very rare phenomenon, bloody sweat (hematidrosis) may occur in highly emotional states. As a result of hemorrhage into the sweat glands, the skin becomes fragile and tender.”

You KNOW that is not why He cried out "My God, My God Why Have You Forsaken Me" He was worshipping! Calling to mind of all who were watching, Psalm 22 in its entirety. It was a common practice at the time to speak the first line because they knew the entire Psalm due to the scriptural literacy of the time. I don't like it when people take things and use it to cause a visceral reaction. The cross and all it entails should elicit the reaction.

KJV says "His sweat was at it were great drops of blood", it doesn't say He sweated blood. I'm sure He was bleeding, and His sweat was mingled with blood, and He was sweating very profusely from the physical torture and exertion, and bleeding from the torture, but it just doesn't say He sweated blood. It's really easy to understand, even in the KJV if you just read it like it is written.

You know why the KJV has King James’ name on it? Because King James (the real person) had that version written to suit him. Do some research and you’ll see that he even had some verses altered from the original text (i.e. the king was a homosexual.) It is not a reliable translation. Also, this video is speaking about when Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane with the foreknowledge of the torture to come, and that anguish caused him to sweat blood, which is an actual, though rare, medical condition.

PS, I mean no disrespect by my comments, this is one of my favorite channels. I just believe we should keep to what is written and not add any words or take any away from what is actually written in black or white in the Word of God.

Doesnt it just mean that Jesus sweat drops became thick like blood drops, running down fast droplets as blood is thicker than water and the weight is heavier or did Jesus literally sweat blood? the verse says became Like great drops of blood, but does not say it was blood that phrase "" like blood "" makes me question whether it was red sweat blood drops i dont know im conflicted its possible that Jesus did indeed sweat real blood sure however i dont believe this is what the writer means but i dont doubt it either as it is Jesus he is reffering to during that last hour
