I think you should do Kosovo, because you have already been to Serbia. So if you have a Serbian perspective it’s 49 countries, and 50 with a Kosovan perspective. Where as if you do Israel or Palestine, with either perspective it’s 50 countries it’s just argued which one you went to

Moroccan here. From what I've heard from friends and family who were significantly affected from the earthquake, many roads are blocked due to the amount of aid that's coming in. This has led many people to die due to ambulances having a hard time to get to villages that need them. It's easy to imagine, roads to tiny villages aren't made for that much traffic. The big issue that has probably led to a lot of deaths is the distribution of aid, not the amount of it. Many isolated villages have had little to no aid, while others have received too much aid. This is due to roads not being a thing in some places. This is just speculation, so i could be completely wrong, but this could also be part of the decision to refuse some aid.
@ravensblade
@ravensblade 8 ай бұрын
I would call a huge bluff of that. Did you actually seen that huge traffic that block whole roads anywhere? The "aid" is not only goods to begin with, it could be rescue helicopter at the same time. It more often actually incudes trained specialists with whole equipment, then some food in crates. Especially in stuff like earthquake, where any trained rescue group with equipment is worth a lot of more then just dozen of random people with shovels. Most reason for turning down a help is just that country itself is not able to directly menage aid or directly control all third parties but had a huge need(usually political) to do so.

Search & rescue and disaster operations are much more complicated a science that most people imagine. It takes exceptional logistics specialists and well trained emergency response management to be effective to a specific event like this. Every disaster is different and no two require the same responses. I rather trust the Moroccan government to have assessed their needs thus far accurately and judging by international media coverage from today and yesterday, the Royal Armed Forces and Gendarmerie have reached most villages, now dotted with bright emergency shelter tents visible from drones overhead, with most major through roads cleared for heavy equipment to move in. The Moroccan military has been well funded for decades and Morocco is generally considered a stable, semi-prosperous country - or at least middle income and thus, far better than most of its African brethren. Al Jazeera did a rather good piece last night on the chief of a Casablanca military hospital, trudging the mountain paths with his subordinates, carrying a massive med pack as they try to reach villages where choppers can't safely disembark medical personnel. If we are to trust the opinion of Moroccan experts more than our own, places like Libya, and maybe Benin by tomorrow afternoon as they expect record rainfall in West Africa tonight, need far more international aid than Morocco does.

@@YameenRahmanThis is a procedure done by the Indian government specifically because they do not allow foreign citizens to have dual Indian citizenship, which Bangladesh does not forbid. In order for a foreign-born person of Indian origin to reclaim their Indian citizenship, they must relinquish any other citizenships they may have, which is why people in this situation typically get an OCI card. Bangladesh allows the holding of multiple passports and does not have this issue.
@alahiri2002

@@YameenRahman Yes. If they wanted to obtain Indian citizenship, they would be asked to renounce their Irish citizenship. However, they are still eligible for an OCI card, which grants them near identical rights to a passport holder. The minor restrictions include voting, the occupation of positions in government, the possession of a passport and the ownership of agricultural land, but other than that, OCI card holders are essentially treated the same as other citizens of India.

The way that demographics are moving, a successful border poll looks inevitable by 2040 or so. But Ulster unionists won't suddenly disappear when that happens, future Irish governments will have to make sure they don't become second-class citizens. And I thought the Confederacy analogy was well-chosen, because the most fanatical Irish nationalists are also the sort of people who would be most horrified by the comparison - it's the sort of message that might shake them out of their false belief that this extremist anti-British sentiment is harmless.

Singhala has one of the most beautiful scripts in the world. I also like the Dutch-Sri Lankan history; the Brits had most of the coast line & the Sri Lankans wanted to use to Dutch to get them out. They made a contract, in both languages. But in Singhalese it had an extra line. So while the VOC(east india company) thought they would kick out the Brits & establish Dutch colonial rule, as time past it became clear that the Sri Lankans wanted self rule & the Dutch only got some harbour for trade purposes. Well done, fun with linguistics.

Varadkar’s comments were indeed really thoughtful and poignant. As an English person, I absolutely support Irish reunification as it’s literally one country on one island. Stuff like Scottish independence is a bit more of a difficult conundrum for me. Also, PLEASE visit Israel. And if you have the money (its EXTREMELY expensive there) please stay for a good amount of time, like 2 weeks. You wont understand anything if you’re there for only a week or so; the culture and cultures go so so deep and its quite literally a microcosm of the entire earth in one place. It’s absolutely extraordinary. As someone who has been there close to 10 times now, each time for a few weeks, I still struggle to understand and comprehend its real. Everything there feels like more and more of a fever dream the more you think you understand it and are getting to the bottom of it. I took a class at uni about Jewish music, relating to the Jewish diaspora who now live in Israel, and its fair to say that every single week most of the students, especially the non-Jews, got more and more lost when being taught about the ridiculously complex and layered lineages of some of the communities who now live in Israel. Its a place I think about almost every single day. Also, I think its funny/ironic how you talked about a so-called ‘hope’ that countries could re-unify or come together to form a homeland, because the national anthem of Israel is ‘Hatikvah’ which means ‘The Hope’.

With northern Ireland the problem is from the past, during the Catholic-protestant split, England (who was ruling Ireland at the time) became protestant while the Irish stayed Catholic. The British king was scared he'd lose power in Ireland and so sent lot's of protestant English to the island. Most of them moved to the north and so when Ireland got independence, northern Ireland decided to stay as they were English. Go to Israel but dont tell the checkpoint guy you are there to visit palestine. They will see you visited Indonesia and morroco and probably ask about it,They will give you a paper ticket instead of a stamp so you can visit muslim countries without a problem after you leave.

india used to be that big the UK separated those regions and made new countries based on race and religion to make it impossible for those people to live in peace , they did that everywhere not just in india , while canada and australia were colonies not a part of an ancient nation

I'm not opposed to name changes, if they (i.e. population) want it it's their right. But it's just so damn stupid when it's just beating into nationalistic drum by politicians for clout, to gain support and show how amazingly patriotic and anti-western they are, and everyone's just inconvinienced by it If they were really patriotic they would expand civil rights and liberties and improve standard of living but good luck seeing this in Turkiye, India and Myanmar Also about anti-colonization sentiment: all those countries gained independence 50-70 years ago, just own up to the fact you allowed politicians who can't govern a barn to be in charge for so long

I feel like most people agree Isreal is a country. Some governments don't recognize them for political reasons, but they still onow isreal is really a country. The question is whether or not ppaestine is, and you probably can't get to palestine without going through isreal first. If you could though, that would be the best, because then have you gone to 0, 1, or 2 countries?

I wouldn't go to "Israel" same as I wouldn't work in South Africa back in the day, during apartheid, my uncle did and got chucked out (fraternising/unwelcome alien)... I don't know why Morocco rejected "help". Plenty of examples of ex-colonial powers/charities/ngos and China raping countries/taking advantage and yes I include UN in this.
