One thing I will say is that I hope they keep the hybrid console/portable idea going forward. I think the WiiU and 3DS showed us that Nintendo can NOT balance the two as separate entities anymore (with the 3DS getting an absolute bloat of titles from both third parties and Nintendo themselves, while the WiiU barely got anything). The failure of the Vita, which also shares a LOT of the same library as the PS4, tells a similar story. Really, I think the advancements in portable processing has made the need to separate the two largely obsolete, all the more so with mobile gaming as valid competition. Add to that, Nintendo's made it abundantly clear that powerhouse graphics are not their top priorities, so there's really no need for Nintendo to pursue anything but their portable line, with concepts like the Switch's dock allowing for an extra boost in performance and a suitable simulation of console gaming. As an aside, Nintendo for quite a while was saying that they intended to continue the DS line to run alongside the Switch, which I always thought would be an absolutely horrible idea for the reasons I just explained. And the fact that the 3DS was still going made me dread the idea of this "3DS successor" eventually getting announced before it FINALLY died with the last of its new titles all the way into 2019. In the end, it might've just been lip service so that Nintendo could still sell off their remaining stock of 2DSes and finish off a few more titles still in development (though that seems to have failed, given how almost all of the post-Switch 3DS titles sold abysmally).

Great video, Ack. I gotta say personally, while Nintendo’s blue ocean ventures are beneficial in several ways, it’s left us without a new F-Zero for over 18 years, so it has its drawbacks lol

That is true, that’s the other side of things lol! Since Nintendo want to just keep innovating they end up leaving behind some of the ideas and franchises that a lot of people enjoy. There’s a good chance that if Nintendo continued down the path of the GameCube and succeeded we’d still be getting games from series like F-Zero, Wave Race, and Mother.

My idea of what happened is they just got too comfortable. They know their fans will buy anything even if it’s bad.

I think that nowadays, there's simply a growing lack of creativity. Hopefully Nintendo and the others can stave it off and realize that thinking outside the box is the way to their fans' hearts. This was an excellent video! I think it looks like the online algorithm has just blessed you, so good luck!! :D

I really don't think the Wii U was a bad console at all. It does somethings better than Switch but you were pretty spot on with the analysis.

Nintendo averted the current buyout everything phase because they're not directly competing.

Nintendo didn't have a choice. As time has gone on and more and more of the "big boys"(Sony and Microsoft) started coming into the fray, Nintendo knew that their best chance of ever surviving in the console market; while still being a relevant enough player at the same time, WAS to differentiate themselves! Nintendo's decision making isn't always perfect I know, but Nintendo also knew what happened to Atari, 3DO, and Sega, could very well happen to them if they didn't do something different that would shake up the industry and themselves.

Nintendo has always done well with their handheld consoles by focusing on making great games within the hardware limitations at a good price. I feel like Nintendo simply adopted their handheld console philosophy onto their home console market to the point that the switch is basically both a home and handheld console.
@kenm27092 жыл бұрын
I actually think Nintendo is genius, And the fact that you made this video is proof of that. Nintendo has to be different otherwise they would be just another console, Think of all the games you can play on PC, xbox, and playstation, it doesn't really matter you just pick up which version you happen to own, on the other hand if you wanna play some Nintendo games you have to get a Nintendo Switch! Sega Makes games for Nintendo now, eventually every game company might follow that same fate if you wait long enough. Nintendo is an icon, everyone knows Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft are fine but they do other things besides video games. Even Sony admitted that they tried to implement some of Nintendo's ideas and it failed miserably at it because Nintendo already had decades of experience innovating accessories for video games, I know many of them sucked but it shows that they know a little about what they are doing. of course this just my opinion, there are probably many things I'm glossing over, plus I have to say The Wii U confused the shit out of me, I though it was some kind of controller, never even knew it was a whole damn console.
