side not. everyone gets on his case for being dumb, but i see it totally differently. he's sooo witty. its rude in the beginning, but it shows hes sharp. i think part of that might stem from cersei calling him stupid in the books. but im starting to realize that i have been misled by trsuting certain characters at times when they are wrong. like cersei in that moment. tyrion often in terms of higher mysteries like his opinions on wildfire. and even tywin in the show saying "thats what you WANT people to think" about jaime "not caring what people think." i now realize tywin is way off. more than anyone, jaime doesnt care. of course he cares... we all do. and it bugs him that hes viewed as a kingslayer. but unlike every other person on the planet, he never told anyone except brienne. bc he doesnt feel like its his job to expose the truth. he lives life and deals with it internally. (team brienne. she was great to him!) oh as far as your comment. i hear ya. i think jaime went through the phases of grieving and then realizes that he is more than just a sword hand. and he begins to use those others tools, like compassion and political maeneuvering in a peaceful manner (unlike basically everyone else in the story who chooses battle over parlies)

Cutting off his hand was also an essential move for Jaime’s arc. As he said, “I was that hand.” The hand that killed the King, the hand that fucked his sister, the hand that pushed Bran out a window. Getting rid of his hand was symbolic by essentially cutting his old way of life off, and starting the rebirth (which is then officially seen in the Bath with Brienne).

Short answer. Cause it happened in the books. Long answer. Cause each character was supposed go grow from the fact that they lost the most important thing to them. Cersei:her children. Ned:his honour. It wouldn't make Jaime cool it would make him a disposable douche. The reason people liked or cared about him is because his character changed because of his loss. He would still be a dick. Jaimes story is about his redemption. It's the author showing us even a bad man or as Jaime portrays himself, a misunderstood man, can still become good and redeem himself.

I would have loved to see Vargo Hoat and his Brave Companions (commonly called the Bloody Mummers) in the TV series . They were fairly active in the novels. Also the fight scene with Brienne of Tarth and that mummer jester Shagwell would have been pretty awesome. It also would have shown were Qyburn came from (he was a mummer). Actually all of Brienne of Tarth's best fights were with mummers ... one of which she thought was The Hound.

Very good video, thanks for explaining that. I've always wondered about that. I believe that Jaymie will get the use of his sword hand back through some kind of magic and his sword will glow like milk glass for the energy of his phantom limb hand. Ramsay Bolton mentioned the phantom limb effect regarding Theon's lost member. Jaymie is Azor Ahai. Jon & Daeny are the Prince and or princess who was promised.

Jaime was born seconds after Cersei, making him technically younger. My opinion has always been that Melissandre will animate his iron hand with Rhollor magic, and he'll be the Valonqar that strangles Cersei. Also, since the Mad King took liberties with Tywin's wife during the bedding, I have always thought Jaime and Cersei were actually Targaryens, bastards though they would be. Imo, Jaime will wed Daenerys and become king, who rules with an iron hand, and Jon will wed Sansa (to whom he is not really related) and become officially recognized as King in the North by Jaime and Daenerys.

Hi! I know I'm late to the party, but I just discovered your channel and completely love it and binge watch every video you posted :) Aside from what you've said in the video, I feel like Jaime loosing his hand is quite symbolic. For the record, I've not read the books yet, though I intend to. I'm not sure if it was said in the show or I just read that up on the Internet, but Jaime was born holding Cersei by the foot (and I'm assuming he was holding to her with at least one hand). They were always pretty close and I feel like he's been always only about Cersei. But as he lost his hand, he slowly loose the attachment to her as well and so began his journey to become his own person instead of Cersei's. He needed that to happen to get rid of her and to change from the douchebag to the character we all came to love. Or I'm just overinterpreting things as always :D

Better question: Why doesn't he just have a blade attached to his stump? If any of you have ever seen walking dead there's a character that loses his hand and does the same thing..in modern day. What does Jamie do? Get a useless hand (well it does save him one time) that clearly took more craftsmanship to create than a sword modification would. Remember when Bran gets crippled and Tyrion offers to make him an extremely complicated mount so that he could ride despite being crippled? Don't tell me they couldn't make it happen.

They cut off his hand because the prophecy of the Queen's death specifically says the little brother puts his HANDS around her neck. This takes the focus off him and puts it on Tyrion or maybe other little brothers, maybe Greyjoy. I think it's a diversion and it will still be Jaime. The goal was to have us look at Tyrion then be surprised when Jaime did it but too many of us guessed Jaime already so they're increasing the subterfuge.One thing I've learned about this story, if they say look left you should look everywhere else but left.

I think it's pretty obvious in the books Vargo Hoat dies it to drive a wedge between Roose Bolton and Tywin Lannister. In the show it didn't fit at all and Roose would've flayed the nonexistent Locke on the spot. The show is blind to deeper consequences and short sightedly weeds characters from the books with out determining their deeper purpose. In the books, Tywin has the mountain retake Harrenhal. And he tortures Vargo Hoat, cuts off his arms and legs feeds him himself. Because he was TYWIN LANNISTERS KID! But in the show, Tywin just let's it go? Bullshit.

Maybe he'll even fight the final battle with 2 swords like The Star of the Morning (sorry I'm bad with names) Jamie did say he wished he had something more useful than a metal hand... if Gentry learned to make Valirian steel Jamie could actually do so e damage in the battle to come. Might be wishful thinking but Jon did say they needed every man I would assume he ment that he wanted them to be able to fight well.

The Umbers were somewhat forced to serve the boltons after the greatjon was imprisoned at the wedding. That was the only reason they ever and only grudgingly joined with the Lannisters and Boltons. For the Karstarks I always assumed, that they just made easy bad guy-characters for the show, as by this point we had already established that they are 'evil'. After Rickard Karstark killed to Lannister kids and denounced Robb and after his family and army later betrayed and left Robbs camp I think it was simply easy to make them out to be the bad guys. In fact it makes no sense. Yeah, the Karstarks had issues with Robb Stark, but they too were very loyal to the Starks for hundreds and thousands of years. Even if their hate for Robb spilled over to Sansa and/or Jon, they wouldn't join the Lannisters for it. Maybe it made sense for them to join the boltons if they already knew for a fact that Ramsay was about to betray the Lannisters or do their own thing. That's what they did in the books I think. But they didn't really bring up any plans between Karstarks and Boltons against the Lannisters in the show. There were some hints, that the bolton-Lannister alliance wouldn't hold for long, after Ramsay married sansa, but nothing in connection to the Karstarks... and nothing that would lead to anything, really.

Why? Because his character at that point needed to be cut down a peg. Other than doing some douchey stuff (like sister fucking and attempted child murder) the guy is perfect. Good looking, good with a sword, is the heir to a great noble ect. If these characters didn't have conflict there wouldn't be a story....and we wouldn't care otherwise. That's why.

I find it interesting that Jamie has this deep backstory where he was a legendary warrior, but we didn't get to see him fight much. The way it was done in the show, he barely fights at all, yet we, the audience just accept it as fact even though we haven't exactly seen him winning. I think that's intriguing... This seems to me like one of the more playful characters GRRM wrote because he tricks us into believing something we never actually get to see.
@bridge4
@bridge4 6 жыл бұрын
Not a trick tho. In the infamous interview where grrm chose jaime over aragorn (lol), he also said "healthy, two-handed jaime...one of the great swordsmen in westeros" Which is similar to briennes reflection of their fight. How no one in the realms could have handled a healthy, two-handed jaime "Kinggggslayer. Get in hereee" lol

Yes, I agree. But please keep in mind I haven't yet read the books. I've only seen the show so far. With this in mind, it's true, I got to see him fight (briefly), but even that fight with Brienne wasn't given the chance to finish before they were interrupted, which is really my only point... Viewers never actually see Jaime win anything on screen. If you hadn't read the books, you have only the show's backstory to trust. It's fun how easy it is to trust even though I've never seen it.
@bridge4

The show doesn't highlight this, but keep in mind Jaime had been starving in a cell for months In the books it's really clear. He's wobbly. His face is significantly thinner And in the books and also the show, his hands are shackled But the main thing was that he tired out real fast I hear ya tho! (Euron gave Jaime a nice shoutout in s7 tho. SayING he fought like a god or something, cutting down greyjoys at the greyjoy rebellion)

You should have also mentioned at the end that not only the Mountain removes Vargo's limbs, but he has Vargo's parts cooked and fed his own flesh to himself. Called it "Roast Goat", since Vargo's sigil was the Black Goat of Qohor.

Glad to hear those reasons. The only love story that was depicted beautifully in the show for long. Unfortunately some people are not going to digest him being azor ahai due to jon/dany being on screen for most of the time. We needed a bit more of mad king scene to get the audience behind jaime.

I just read about a mercenary named Gotz who lost his hand and made himself a metal one that could actually clamp its fingers down and have somewhat of a grip. They should have gave Jaime that since it was done in history I don’t know how useful it would be but it’s certainly better than no grip at all

kool vid! Now I know ur a non-believer, but Jaime lost his sword hand for his sins - his vow to Aerys, the kinslaying! (Lannister/Targaryan whatever) He didnt lose his head coz of his mercy. vows and mercy are what the OG are into... yeah and honor and loyalty. He has the blood from the AoH. If he can pass the tests, then he has a role to play. not that it is easy. I think he said it best in s2 to Cat: "they make you swear and swear. Obey your father, obey the king, defend the king, protect the innocent ..... no matter what you do ur forsaking one vow or another. It's too much."

I think they maybe cut off his hand too early. Like, he was an asshole, but aside from Bran and some other events, we never actually saw him be a proper dickhead, we didn’t even really see his skill with a sword that was so admired, I think they should have had more scenes that showed these, maybe he won King Roberts hand of the kind brawl and was just an egotistical arsehole for the rest of the time in kings landing. But they did very well, and I don’t know if this would have actually changed anything anyways, they had to leave out a lot of his progression due to the limits of a show anyways. They did very well and he still remains my favourite character to this day
@warmonger9100
@warmonger9100 5 жыл бұрын
He could of cut off the left hand and had the same outcome with the Lanisters. The right hand is more significant. It's the same reason they cut off Theon's cock. Theon and his cock had a reputation. Theon built his identity around it. To lose it, was worse then dying. This is the same for Jaime. He built his identity around his sword and fighting ability. To lose his right hand, is to lose himself. That is a fate, worse then death. It also hints at Theon's low self esteem and Jaime's too. Plus, maybe Jaime is lacking in that department, so, he focuses more on fighting and sleeping with his sister.

I don’t Understand y Jaime didn’t want revenge. After getting back to kings landing he never even considers taking a force to go kill locke for revenge. Red wedding was over, they didn’t need the boltons cooperation other than keeping the north in the north and not marching on KL as Rob was trying

what the fuck was Locke.s problem? was it as simple as he hating nobles that he chopped off Jamies hand , throws Brienne in a pit with a Bear and now wanted to kill the young Stark? I dont buy this theory. I know the TV adaption is different from the book. but what is happening here. what did Locke want to achieve by abducting the young stark without Jon knowing? he even savagely slit his thigh to check that he was a crippled stark.
