If anyone's wondering why Ed and the Castle Black cook were in the running with barely any votes it was because some members of the Night's Watch just decided to troll throughout the entire thing by voting for someone which would force them to go to all these boring gatherings even if they had literally no chance of winning. And you don't seem to be able to withdraw. Sure you can get all your followers to stop supporting you if they are loyal to you, but if the person or people voting for you want you to stay in the running despite your wishes, then you don't seem to be able to leave. So Ed was constantly complaining because Pyp (the only person who voted for him) was forcing him to spend all this time doing boring shit he wanted no part of. When Jon first heard he was in the running for lord commander, he actually nearly laughed because he figured some of his friends were just trying to wind him up. He had no idea that he actually had hundreds of supporters.

I feel like the best people to lead are the ones who never wanted the power because they won't abuse it. I think that Jaime Lannister will become the 1000th Lord Commander. It would be poetic: to have Jaime and Jon Snow reverse roles and locations (Jon going to the Wall and Jaime in King's Landing at the beginning of the story, finishing with Jon Targaryen in King's Landing and Jaime at the Wall). I cannot help to think that Jaime's final scene in season 7 is a Chekhov's gun, where Jaime wearing black garb rides a black horse, covering his golden hand with a black leather glove, signifying that Jaime will give up his wealth and "golden" family in exchange for restoring his honor by truly serving the realm. Of the remaining characters in Westeros, who else but Jaime has the experience and skills to command the large armies of the living against the vast hordes of the undead?

Jon then orders people to pack his things for him. The whole time Jon was thinking to himself, about how he keeps giving Janos opportunities to obey, and about how he doesnt think Janos gave Ned any opportunities, nor would Janos give Jon any opportunities to comply. Jon also didn't immediately think to behead Janos, first he sends Janos to the ice cells to freeze and get another opportunity to do the right thing. But the whole reason Jon was sending Janos away was that there were members of the watch who would side with Janos if there was a mutiny, so Jon was trying to separate Janos from the rest of the watch, for the watch, and he realized that if he acted weak, that only gave Janos more power.

How wild would it be if Jamie Lannister becomes the 1,000th Lord Commander or joins the Nights Watch after the Great War has ended? It would be his last act of redemption and would bring his conversation with Jon Snow way back in Episode 2 full circle when he condescendingly thanked Jon in advance for protecting the realm against White Walkers. I’d love to see Jon save his ass against a WW this coming season too and smirk back at Jamie and say “The Nights Watch sends their regards” or something like that as a call back to him thanking Jon in advance all those years prior. But after it’s all over, it would interesting to see Jamie Lannister of all people become a man of the black at the end.

bridge4 Haven’t thought that all the way through yet. Could be a number of reasons: Who’s to say the Children won’t create another WW if history should repeat itself and they feel their land is threatened again in the future. Or just in case the WWs return somehow. But your point of the wall falling, peace being found with the Wildlings, and the possibility of the WWs being extinct would mean no more Nights Watch. But again, how can we be assured the Children don’t go back and create another at some point in the future as a last ditch effort again.

Unrelated to the topic of the video, but I just barely noticed in the scene from 2:05 to 2:13, Jon Snow facing down the Night King with Drogon roaring behind him (and Dany's really not anywhere in the scene, so it's 100% all about Jon). Jon + dragons facing down the Night King. The roaring almost struck me as if symbolically in that moment Drogon was representing Jon's wrath and his power and his true identity, like this is no random crow the Night King's dealing with. Right at 2:05 when he turns with that look on his face and Drogon's roaring behind him--gives me shivers. Just a cool moment in the cinematography

Ed seems to be an acting lord commander. they have the most democratic election of anyone in the world tho (everyone getting an equal vote), so i dont think jon can transfer power. but they may have just skipped an off-screen election we probably get one more scene at castle black, so for all intents and purposes, ed is acting commander or maybe legit

sounds like you've read them before? if so, consider reading them in sections. for example, i like reading through the Tyrion POV chapters in a Dance with Dragons, instead of going cover to cover but be careful when you do that. there are some situations where it makes sense to read a few POVs together (such as the Battle of Blackwater: Tyrion, Sansa, Davos, and Cersei chapters) thank you btw =)

Ahjh ok. That's what you meant by break em out Just a heads up, not spoiling stuff don't worry. But book 1 is very similar to season 1. 2 is close to 2 and 3 is close to season 3and 4. But it gradually drifts. And 4 and 5 feel like entirely different subplots So what I'm getting at is that if book 1 feels like a repeat, it's worth grinding through to get to the new stuff. Bc there's a lot of new characters and subplots eventually :)) And even book 1 ha's the benefit of train of thought. No musical score lol. But train of thought is huge, especially for someone like Jaime starting in book 3 :))

************POSSIBLE SPOILERS********* I know John is a beloved character but to be honest he gets bailed out of every situation. Sam assisted him with becoming Lord Commander (even though he didn’t ask for it - it saved him from being treated terrible or possibly killed), Sansa and the Vale bailed him out against Ramsay, Daenerys with the White Walkers (although I believe it was a NK trap to get a dragon) and lastly, if Stannis hadn’t come with his sellswords, who knows what would have happened.

Slynt was the candidate of the throne, that's not to be taken likely as there is the general consensus that the lannisters will win the war. So there really is some logic to everyone wanting to choose him, other that some high ranking nights watch men who were from western houses sworn to the lannisters. The actual problem with Slynt other than being a "snow-hater", is that he is corrupt and a patsy for the iron throne. Regarding Sam, as you said all this plotting is VERY uncharacteristic for him and it takes a very odd turn of event that actually adds up to sam's dealings and gets jon elected. After doing the pyke-mallister ruse, there's the sudden change of heart of othell yarwick (which is huge) and the incident with mormont's raven and the kettle which seems to be the definitive thing that get's jon elected. All of which seem pretty strange and perhaps even supernatural in a sense.

I love your videos and have been following you for solid year but I would just give one critique is that I don’t really like the music behind your videos, I know you probably assume I don’t like techno or trance or even classic.... but honestly I feel as if kinda takes away from the audio and to me is kinda distracting, other wise great video! I love book descriptions and you do a great job at presentation! If anything maybe lower the volume just a tad? Idk how others feel but for me it’s a tad distracting

Unfortunately I don’t know if Sam did Jon any favors since he gets stabbed eventually. Sylnt is an ass but not as bad in the books. I never really understood why they were so hot to behead Jon since he held things together while the wall was under attack and he came back with a wound from a wilding.
