fido is a generic term used in place of dog - it used to be a very common name people would give their dogs and later became synonymous. She calls him a lap dog and the "fido" comment is because Claude plays "fetch" for Salvatore. It is NOT being used as a term of endearment, they're suspicious of him and want him to know his place on the outside of their circle

Claude is one of my favorite GTA protags (top 5 really), and it has to do a lot with him being mute. I never feel the need to relate to a character or anything like that so the lack of words and emotion never bothered me, on the contrary, the ruthlessness only makes me wonder what's going on behind that soulless stare of his from the PS2/PC, as well as that internally pissed off look from the XBOX/Mobile version. The DE version just looks confused tho.

Claude's minimalist personality, *IS* his personality, not every character needs a colourful backstory or motive. I disagree. To me, Claude is a more subtle character. A stoic getaway driver more than willing to play the goon if it'll get what he wants. His loyalty only goes as far as who writes his paycheck, and will easily turn on an employer if it can either save his own skin, like the betrayal of Don Leone, or if it helps him get to his main goal, like the assassination of Kenji. While of the surface, he belays this calm, uncaring mercenary, depending on what you think happened with the last gun shot at the end, Claude is either a violent savage who kills as soon the thought crosses his mind, or a hot-head who may use violent methods to get what he wants. Maybe this last one is just me, but his youthfulness in San Andreas makes him seem more chipper and optimistic. I'm sure gaining a girlfriend after losing a garage might have helped a bit too. Perhaps he was less violent at one point and Catalina brought out the beast in him. Or maybe I'm reading too much into the one facial expression he had all game.

I think Claude not speaking is more of his own choice all along, and that makes more sense to me- as in GTA III, it feels more natural that Claude’s actions were meant to be more important than his words. His ambiguity and subtly intrigue me more in this case.
@ChrisClinton-YT
@ChrisClinton-YT Жыл бұрын
Claude (GTA III) can be heard making pain noises when falling from a high place or getting ran over by a car. This may be the only voice that Claude has. 5:51 The sounds from that trailer are from GTA 2. And the line "Get out of the car" Is from an NPC also in GTA 2. It can be heard when it steals a car. It's also prob they still don't have the sounds for GTA III so they decided to use GTA 2's. So the voice doesn't belong to Claude I heard that line when the NPC stole a car I remember... My answer: Claude and Claude Speed are different person. Because if we watch the GTA 2 promo movie. Claude Speed can be seen briefly talking. While Claude is just a mute and never says a word. That also depends on when GTA San Andreas, GTA 2 & 3 takes place. NOTE: GTA SA is related cuz Claude makes a brief appearance in GTA SA. In the mission 'Farewell, My Love On the gta2 movie you can see on the monitor of some PC that he is 28 years old. GTA2 is in 2013. So if Claude in GTA3 is Claude Speed he have to be 16 years old

That would be a based backstory of Claude. A character who is a ms 45 type character who was raped and gave birth to Claude. That’s would make sense. Because ms 45 is a silent deadly killer. Maybe Claude could’ve be more developed not as a silent deadly character. But a deadly character who used to have a drive for a love life. Catalina. He thought was his gal to protect. But then catalina betrayed him to the masks. And to Miguel’s branch of the Colombian cartel, and then Maria. A wife of Salvatore who choose Claude over Sal and this gave Claude a drive to protect her. But then when the ending was going happy riding to the sunset in the Cochrane dam, a shooter accidentally kills Maria and Claude is pissed. Free and yet unhappy in the end. And now must vow to find the killer of Maria and end the hunt of his life. The cops don’t count. But the masks are very grand bugger than he realizes.

I think the cool thing about 'mute' protagonist is to actually feel you are the character, in the end you're the one in control of the person, but at the same time I think there should be context of who he is. For example on Fallout New Vegas even tho you protagonist is mute, and you personalize him, if you talk to people around the course of the game you can get some information of who was you character before and what did before the events of the game; Thabks to this you can get a better idea of who he was and what he did or enjoy, and also gives you a more realistic perspective; It makes you know that even before opening your game, your character already existed before, and you can also become more closer to thw character (Of course if you want to). Claude feels very empty as a character, he doesn't even seems to have any sort of purpose; Of course he was betrayed, but through the game I don't feel a need for him to get revenge, and it even feels like he simply stomp with Catalina once more, after walking blind. I dunno, I don't dislike him either, this can also work as a way to make the player think "OH I THINK CLAUDE IS THINKING ON DOING THAT", but somehow that makes him also so unique, in the end Claude is a unique protagonist that at the same time I wish we could have known more.

Claude is a blank slate, you can project your own ideas about who he is onto him with no contradiction. In my book, Claude is a clinical psychopath who dose not care about anyone on a deep level and is not motivated by money, but more by what money dose for him and the sense of satisfaction comes from doing a job well done and the security and independence money gives him.

People say he ain't the same in gta 2. Yes and no . R* say "maybe" (his name may or not may be speed) Just remember , gta 2 is supposed to be in 2013. Ok . But you can rename the guy. We will happily respond to your comment 🙂 As for the first sentence you made, the protagonist is actually called Claude in the game's text file (you can read about it here, this is a reliable source of unused or deleted content -> tcrf.net/Grand_Theft_Auto_III/Unused_Text#Can_the_Real_Claude_Please_Stand_Up.3F) In terms of the voice, we can't really say whether he did or not. He had some lines of dialogue prepared as evidenced in the GTA 3 Design Doc. And finally, at a certain point in development (probably alpha), the developers planned on giving players the option to name the main character when they were still thinking about the 2D universe. We can find a hint regarding this in one of the IGN articles published on October 18th, 2001. Here is a quote from this article: "When starting off, you get to name the character whatever you like." Second thing, you are right regarding that Claude from GTA 3 is inspired by the appearance of Claude Speed from GTA 2 in the intro movie. We've decided to leave the rest of your statements since we pretty much answered them in the video. Yes, Rockstar North says "maybe" which is not equal to "is", thus it's not a fact. The only certain thing is that the first name of Claude and Claude Speed is Claude, nothing else. And because we don't know Claude's surname (the one from GTA 3), we are not going to say they are the same. That's at least how we see it 🙂

My theory about Claude being so mute is that he was maybe an early human clone of a super soldier. Nickname: Claude Speed. The mute clone took the name Claude and built some mechanical skills. It explains why he ran an abandoned gas station garage. Maybe it explains why he looks so young and from San Fierro. Because he was more free willing and of course a better driver and soon a better killer and turned contract killer after escaping a prison van. 8 Ball helped him get a safe house in Portland. Maybe Catalina knew who Claude really is. The name she was able to get. Flashed an ID card and Catalina learned about it. A man’s man. Gary Cooper of the gta universe. Strong and silent type. By 2001, he looks very rapid aging.

I hope we finally get a confirmation on their stance on the matter in GTA 6 I hope there are Easter eggs and plot elements confirming Tommy Vercetti’s existence (Easter eggs, descendants of VC characters, old newspapers, website articles in-game, etc) and Vice City’s plot approximately happening, confirm that in the HD version of the GTA multiverse, the 3D games happened, just MUCH differently in certain cases (mainly GTA 3 happening pre 9/11 and MUCH differently, VC and SA would be largely similar) Thus retroactively confirming that *some version* of Tommy, CJ, and Claude existed In my headcanon CJ and Claude found their way to Vice City and joined the Vercetti organization before it eventually got taken down by police, Tommy goes to prison or dies, CJ flees the state, and Claude goes underground with a new alias showing up as a side character in GTA 6 ❤

I actually prefered him that way...as many have pointed out it gave him an aura of mystery and at the same time gave the ability to connect with a character better...when i first played the game i didnt really think of it at all because it was the first GTA game i've played and i never thought 'hmmm this is weird'....his silence became intimidating(and rockstar obviously went on with that 'easter egg' in san andreas...kinda like everyone locking the butler in the fridge in tomb raider so it kinda becomes a series 'gag')...his calm and emotionless character made him stand out and became his staple....i actually prefered to be able to 'have my own conversation' as if i am the player...it gave me feeling like i am more in control of the game and choices..instead of having to empathise with characters own motives and way of thinking...but that might've been subjective since i actually look a lot like Claude and i've worn such an outfit even before the game was out(i have actually started playing the game after some friend pointed out 'hey man check out this new game, main character looks like you haha') so it was pretty easy for me to 'blend in' with the game and just enjoy 'being the character' instead of 'controling the player'...but i can understand why people did not feel the same way...just my two cents :) great video btw love your content

Why did the narrator keep pronouncing Claude's nickname as FEE-DOE instead of FYE-DOE? They have a clip playing of Maria saying Fido, so it just makes it more jarring the odd enunciation. That nitpick aside Fido is actually of Latin origin not just Italian meaning trust but dependable/reliable. Whether intentional or not, Fido as a nickname for Claude is a double entendre because he's definitely reliable but by towards the 2nd half of the story is when he's no longer trustworthy making it ironic to call him Fido as well as fitting. It wouldn't surprise me if Rockstar intended for the name ironically as that seems to be the case with Ray's Boccino's surname in GTA4. Boccino meaning squealer was actually super ironic in GTA IV. *[spoilers for anyone who hasn't played that yet somehow]* Ray's main flaws was he only sucked up to Peggorino and openly had disdain and distrust of Phil in main story. Ray was a scumbag but he was actually showed to keep his word with Niko and care for his men to some extent as seen when Ray said Niko didn't need to kill his crew that stole the ice. This is again shown in the TLatD dlc when he holds his man with the slit throat. The scene is also the only example of Ray actually betraying someone, however there's a two things to note about that is Ray already showed he looked down on the Lost MCs and didn't care about them and the betrayal probably wouldn't have happened had the deal gone more smoothly and Johnny hadn't taken the money without Niko by his side.

Is it true that Claude himself shot Maria and killed her? if it's true that Claude shot and killed Maria, why did he come before that and want to save Maria when at the end of the scene, he shot Maria.
