In testimony on Monday, YSL co-founder Trontavious “Tick” Stephens said his grandmother paid $50,000 to attorney Thomas Flugum, but Flugum ended up not being able to do the trial because his wife got cancer.
Flugum returned $25,000, and Tick hired Kristi Gladden. Tick then ended up taking the plea agreement that has him testifying as a prosecution witness. The deal gave him credit for time already served in jail, as well as eight years on probation.
Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel asks Tick about other circumstances that Steel is implying influenced Tick’s decision to take the deal and testify, including his children. Tick has three sons with three women: two eight-year-olds and a 12-year-old son.
“Were you able to help out either financially or emotionally any of your children?”
“No.”
“When you were in jail for approximately seven or eight months, were you able to help out either financially or emotionally any of your children’s mothers?”
"No."
Steel is trying to establish for jurors that Tick took the deal and agreed to testify out of necessity and is only testifying because he has to.

His grandmother paid $50,000. That shows you the streets is a myth. My brother got hit with a Rico. None of the street dudes he knew paid any fees for him. Only his parents, grandparents, and siblings.

Attorney Brian Steel was masterful during his cross of Tick who actually sounds like he received bad advice to plead guilty. He's actually likeable, just a young man who had no guidance growing up. Hopefully, Tick continues to better himself after this silly trial.

@@MichelleMPLS I think he was threatened by the DA's office to throw the hardest time on him. Or to make his homies think he's a snitch which is another deadly tactic. Either way if he was coerced which appears to have happened, this helps YSL more than the prosecutor
