Actually, it's because Uryu TANKED that ability that Yhwach used and wasn't depowered like Ichigo's sister. His father and his grandfather knew he was practically crippled and it was a miracle he was even able to do what he was able to do. They REALLY didn't want him to become a quincy becasue they knew that he had something powerful and would be dragged into the war with the soul reapers and probably killed. Q KNEW Uryu was broken as fuck the entire time he just didn't know it yet or could access his true powers.

I will simplise the reason Uryu was chosen to take the throne. Uryu was the last generation of Human Quincy 'til date, he even survived the Auswählen as a kid. Most of the Soul Quincy lack something so Yhwach gave them the thing they need, but not Uryu, he was a strong Quincy since birth. So for the obvious reason, he chose Uryu to be the next heir.

I know this is TOTAL head canon, but I kind of thought that he resisted Auschwalen because he's like Ichigo. He lost his original Quincy powers due to Lehtz Stihl, but his father helped him regain his abilities by whatever training he had him do.
