The Non-Canon Expert explains Mace Windu's thoughts during his initial confrontation with Count Dooku just prior to the Battle of Geonosis in Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, looking first at how Mace's thinking aligned with the general view of the Jedi Order and High Council regarding the former Jedi, and then looking at the particular perspective of Mace as the Jedi Master confronted Dooku.

Mace Windu still thought of Dooku as a honourable person who was once a Jedi, it's not the Jedi way to just attack or kill Dooku, perhaps mace thought there was a chance to reason with him and convince him to stop this crusade he was on? but Despite joining the separatists and splitting the republic in two Windu clearly has a great respect for count dooku, they were friends and fought together in many missions through the years. Mace also doesn't believe that Dooku has changed all that much, 'he couldn't assassinate anyone it's not his character".

Dooku is the most criminally underused character in all of Star Wars. He himself is unique and interesting yet barely gets any screentime, plus played by a classic actor.

Ironically, his hesitance to strike down Dooku and not making the same decision when facing against Palpatine, it cost him his life. If he would have shown restraint once more, he might have survived the encounter or prevented Anakin from fully turning rather than giving into his fear and losing his way...

Windu with his skills alone was almost on par with dooku in lightsaber combat. But vaapad would've allowed him to win. He managed to fight on par with sidious with it and sidious could've killed dooku like he was a fly.

That said, had Jango’s jetpack worked the way it was supposed to, it would’ve prolong the fight a bit longer, but wouldn’t truly change the outcome much

Your video on Dooku's lack of Sith eyes and his involvement with Sidious and Pleaguis in the Darth Pleaguis novel as well as his reveal to Kenobi in Attack of the Clones lead me to a Theory that Dooku may have been attempting to use Sidious the same way Sidious would ultimately be revealed to have been using Dooku. Dooku agreed to partner with Sidious to bring down the Republic, and perhaps dabble in the Dark side, but I wonder if Dooku sought to bring down the Republic and ultimately turn on Sidious to either lead the new Empire or simply be content that the Repubic had fallen.

All of these actors are phenomenal; Christopher Lee, Ian McDiarmid, Temuera Morrison. To this day i have no clue why Dooku tried to lure Obi-Wan to his side. What would’ve happened if Kenobi agreed? Would they have killed Sidious? Dooku and Qui-Gon seemed to not be as dogmatic and strict as the Jedi or Sith, this is an approach adopted by Grand Master Luke Skywalker as well.

The Jedi aren't allowed to have relations with anybody outside the Order, so that they won't have emotional conflicts during critical moments. So they won't do exactly what Mace Windu did here. So either the Jedi need to drop that restriction, or Yoda should have rebuked Windu for failing to act.

This strikes me as another example of the Jedi order's failings. They largely believed themselves to be infallible, so the idea that one of their order had indeed fallen probably seemed completely impossible. What is most damning in my opinion is Mace's Shatterpoint; the Force was literally telling Mace something very important, but he ignored it due to his Jedi indoctrination. A Jedi who ignores the Force sounds oxymoronic, especially for a Jedi on Mace's level. It just drives the point home that this particular order had already fallen to some extent, and its destruction was inevitable.

Windus lightsaber is purple because Red and Blue make purple. Mace had a dark side in him, he just didn’t fall victim to it. Instead he used it for good. Hence his form 7 fighting style, that is forbidden because it requires to use the dark side

The clone wars would have been delayed not stopped if Mace killed Count Dooku. Palpatine was the mastermind and it would be more than likely he had another plan or another tool (people ) to use ig Dooku failed in this endeavor. Plus, plans were already in motion and both sith lords knew the Jedi Order were clouded by the dark side. Palpatine and Dooku were expecting the Jedi to come to the planet with the clone troopers. Dooku's death would not have changed that.

I would think one of the main reasons would be because I think it’s a Jedi law, or rule or whatever, that you don’t kill an unarmed or unsuspecting or idle enemy, or basically they don’t kill someone who isn’t attacking you or someone else or about to do something super evil that must be stopped... so Mace wouldn’t have just killed him while his back was turned... that combined with everything else said on here especially kept him from killing him... now if I’m wrong about what you’re talking about and you meant that mace should have fought him once Dooku already saw him and they had started talking... that’s a lot different of a situation because he’s not sneaking up and assassinating an unaware person just standing there doing nothing really... but if that’s the case, we’ll then he was smart not to attack him because Dooku is one of the best in history at fighting with a lightsaber, Mace is also one of the best in history, but he would be fighting another best Dooku with Jango Fett right there to attack at the same time, Jango bring not just a friggin mandalorian but also pretty much one of the best non force sensitive fighters alive and one of the best bounty hunters also... so Mace having to duel Dooku with Jango right there to attack at the same time, yeah I don’t know why that would even be a question, he did the smartest thing he could as a Jedi, he made sure to freeze with his lightsaber the hired gun with all the gadgets and skills while he talked/threatened/negotiated with Dooku... now maybe he could have put the lightsaber to Dooku’s neck and told Jango to throw all his weapons over the balcony or something, but I feel like that still might have been easy for Dooku to make a move as mace was slightly looking and waiting on Jango and then Jango would have also made a move and mace could easily been screwed, although mace is super fast so who knows for sure... all I know is that, yeah while killing Dooku when he first snuck up behind them would have ended it before it started, it’s just not what the Jedi do, they’re not allowed to, it’s against their core beliefs, so in that situation he basically did the best he could, the only thing I think they could have done better is have more than one Jedi sneak in behind Dooku and Jango so it wouldn’t have just been 1 on 2, maybe even have 5 friggin Jedi walk up with lightsabers lit and actually force Dooku to surrender unless he jumped off like mace had to and then Dooku would have been in the middle of the huge battle with tons of Jedi around him so he would have been done for unless he improvised some miracle... but anyway, I think it’s dumb to bring up really, I mean it’s understandable for Mace to regret it as millions would die in the war to come and if he could have just done the one thing he could have stopped it, but he would have known any and every great Jedi also wouldn’t have done it because it’s not the Jedi way, so the only thing to talk about would be what mental pain it would cause Mace, nobody else would even think of it, but it would have the possibility of tearing mace up inside because he knew being a Jedi he did the right thing and a Jedi isn’t allowed to do it, but if he could have done just the one bad thing, just killed him he could have stopped it and saved so many, but would it have broken him? Turned him to the dark side? Or would he have been able to deal with it fine? Or would him being broken by it have been worth it to save millions preventing the war.... or would the war have happened anyway because it wasn’t just Dooku behind it.... all in all Mace Windu is one of the best Jedi in history, especially if you ask me, but the proof is all out there, defeated the emperor in lightsaber combat blocking his force lightning, he’s one of the best ever so he would have been fine either way.. you could definitely point out this moment as to why when he was about to finish off Palpatine and Anakin tried to stop him mace said “he’s too dangerous to be kept alive”... him regretting letting Dooku go as the war started probably had him tell himself in his mind he would never let anything like that happen again... although he didn’t even need to say “he’s too dangerous to be kept alive” because palpatine was friggin attacking him with lightning the entire time so all he would have done by killing him would have been him killing the evil Sith Lord that was endlessly attacking him... anyway it’s all cool how that connects... but yeah nobody would have killed Dooku in that moment and situation.

Well, in the end they both suffered the same fate. Having their hand(s) cut off by Anakin while Palpatine watched, then being killed a few seconds later.

If he killed Dooku is would spoil Palpatine's plans he had foreseen and no OT. Plus Dooku would most likely instantly respond to an attack and maybe Mace wanted to know who was the real Sith Lord,

1 they were looking for the bounty hunter not dooku 2 the bounty hunter was the biggest threat to a jedi. As his armour and jet pack is designed for that.

Mace doesn't harm Dooku, and even Yoda defends his inability to do so because it is seen as compassionate to try to save a friend. And yet, Anakin would probably have viewed it as an attachment that Mace Windu was permitted, but the Jedi wouldn't allow any such considerations for him. Mace uses more of the dark side than any other Jedi and is allowed these close bonds, but no such treatment is allowed to Anakin. It's quite sad that the Jedi couldn't see their own hypocrisy.

Jango was going to get away but his jetpack wasnt working then mace...so jango didnt head out the way he wanted too. But good topic i never questioned why mace didnt kill dooku at that time.

Does the way Dooku depart the Jedi Order in canon differ from Legends? As in another video (by a different youtuber) it is mentioned that Dooku said nothing and merely left after becoming angry with the order.

And I think he might be to old to do some of the things needed for a young mace windu. The only black actor that I think could do it and people be accepting of would be him. Not to mention that jordan has enough star power to put asses in seats and at the end of the day that's the only thing the nazi's at disney care about.
