I would bounce one up. If you have a real defence mission, where you know, the goah'uld will attack, 5hen just smash maybe 1 or 2 Bradleys through the gate and hold the line. I think, if the p90 was good to shred through the r armor.... What would a bushmaster do to them. Or the r light attack stuff, like death gliders.
@hawkeye5955
@hawkeye5955 2 жыл бұрын
@@santoriumorigin1411 : Bradleys would still require logistical support to resupply their TOW missiles. There's also the possibility that if their tracks get blown off, they're effectively stuck until they can get a recovery vehicle to either repair the tracks or tow it back through the gate. LAVs would be more practical since they can carry more troops than a Bradley and have wheels instead of tracks, which are easier to replace.

If they needed heavier support around the gate they used missiles fired directly into the wormhole since it was one way travel for weapons and they never adventured further than a few miles usually without being able to use vehicles on planet. Turning the Stargate into a yo-yo was a no go. The Stargate was located in a concrete bunker. The Stargate could be removed by a crane through a silo but I question the practicality of playing yo-yo with a 66,000 lb. Stargate so that some vehicles could be sent through. Though at different points some large trucks and F302s are seen off world.

I mean, they usually were doing recon or special operations, especially in the early seasons it was a very clear understanding that any large scale direct confrontation with the Goa'uld they would not win. Goa'uld technology was often more traditional than functional in it's design, but still was way more advanced. It wasn't in the show because budget, but I'd imagine that if SG teams started using vehicles like that they'd find why it's a bad idea against the enemy where every other soldier basically carries a plasma canon.

Though they did start using drones in later seasons to do preliminary scouting and such, I never really understood why they never used vehicles. Yes, some places were not very suited to any kind of vehicle, but mostly they went to places where a light terrain truck or a few ATVs would be very useful. Vehicles would: -Give them greater mobility in general. -Extend their possible range of operations. -Allow them to better maneuver during combat. -Carry heavy and/or mounted weapons. -Carry supplies that would allow them to sustain operations for a longer time and/or higher intensity.

Stargate Technologies were restricted to where a tank or assault vehicle could be used and fit the portal.. Besides, you need a Recon team to determine which tank is right for the job and prepare for ambush. You need to ensure the other side is safe and secure before you drive a tank to it. Motorcycles and even ATVs were also some things that seemed overlooked by the SG teams. A lot of times the gates were significantly distant from the towns and encampments the SG teams had to deal with. An LAV might be a bit much but their probe units were about the same size as an ATV so seems odd they might not deploy them for faster personnel movement. Course that also causes a problem, the SG teams always tried their best to not show off a lot of tech and definitely to avoid any gear behind with the majority of the civilizations they dealt with as the majority were technologically behind the SG teams, sort of a Prime Directive kind of situation.

Another reason is that until the Antarctica gate was found, the only available gate on Earth was in a bunker in a mountain. Not exactly the easiest of places to get a big vehicle like an Abrams down into. They had small (sometimes remotely controlled) tracked or half-tracked vehicles for moving equipment & munitions, but that's probably because they can either be brought down on a cargo lift or could be assembled & stored next to the gate room. Atlantis could've had something heavier, but then there's still the maintenance problem. Plus getting anything big there in the first place would require it to fit in the gate room. If they took it by space ship, or the gate tunnel thing in later seasons, it would still require a lot of people, a lot of parts, & a lot of munitions to be worth it. Atlantis *did* get lots of AA guns to fend off the Wraith, & I don't remember if it was explained how they got them there, whether in parts or fully made, but they were static & need a lot less in terms of parts.

They used small mobile armoured vehicles at times. The biggest in universe reasons are 1) the SGC is an Air Force run base, not army. The Air Force doesn’t generally keep their own tanks. 2) it would have to be a rather small tank to make it through the Stargate without getting stuck 3) nine times out of ten, an episode will be focussed on SG-1. SG-1, despite being the elite, deadly and most adaptable team is actually a reconnaissance team. You see the marine teams use more hardware. Out of universe, the reason is probably budget constraints as much as anything else. If it’s a choice between including a tank prop or a Goa’uld mothership or additional set design for an alien planet, it’s obvious what they are going to choose. Additionally, even if a tank could fit into the Stargate- how would they get one into the base?

Also worth pointing out the point of a tank is that it's more or less immune to small arms fire, not nescessarily the case when the enemy is using space lasers or whatever, if the armor isn't very effective its probably worth eschewing in favor of greater mobility.

There's a lot of vehicles they could still use, I think the biggest issue is more that Stargate command is a repurposed missile silo, there isn't any space for vehicles, they need a purpose built base for the Stargate with heavy defenses built around it and dedicated facilities for mission use such as vehicle bays.

Technicals would be devastatingly effective for Stargate Command. A single technical carrying say, a multiple-launch homing rocket system could lay waste to Goa'uld facilities, staging grounds and ship yards in short order as well as providing quick and manoeuvrable transport. This could also open up SG teams to larger scale operations, one SG team sneaks into an enemy stronghold as they do in every other mission, blow up a shield generator or weapons pointed at the gate, then half a dozen technicals storm out, catching the goa'uld off guard with overwhelming force.

Even if they couldn't bring the biggest vehicle through due to logistical issues, any kind of LAV or APC would've been a boon to at least give the troops some protection they could reliably use instead of hoping local terrain had enough cover.

A getting it and the needed logistics support down into Cheyenne mountain, the difficulties of requisitioning such assets and personnel without drawing suspicion (less excusable in later seasons when they have literal starships) tho at that point most of their budget goes to such ships anyway

An M-8 AGS, HSTV-L, or Sheridan might me more practical. Whilst 2 are prototypes, the ARES rapid fire guns or a large bore high explosive shell would be highly effective against a primarily infantry focused enemy whilst being highly mobile and fitting in the Stargate. Additionally, whilst not heavily armored as larger vehicles, the Sheridan or m8 would be more protected than an LAV. Additionally they were designed for air dropped operations and limited support operations.

I think the main canon problem was the gateroom itself. Thats why they converted malps wuth turrets. They could easily and cheaply get into the complex. Without the use of the cranes and the missile silo doors to open the mountain.

If you wanted a tank use old outdated ones like any shermans or walker bulldogs that are still laying around. They probably wouldn’t require much maintenance, wouldn’t be as expensive to run or worse case get destroyed. However they’d still need maintenance but then that’s a case of just having some spare parts sent through on the tanks and having the crew members know how to perform some basic field maintenance or repair.

I love Stargate but that always bugged me they sent Airforce to do Army/ Marines job in the ground war part. But on a note of vehicles that would be a step up and have armor with your ground troops. And still be flexible. The M551 Sheridan small enough to go almost anywhere yet have enough firepower against the most of the enemies they fought. ( not replicators we all know what would happen) The Striker would also be a good choice. They have several different types that would still give them more firepower. Armored scout vehicles with 50cals. And I know this came out later but that drone land vehicle the Mule fitted with weapons would have also be a awesome addition to SG teams. I mean the list goes on. Another thing that would have been nice was the body armor being upgraded for the teams you have plenty of weapons from these aliens and you know how powerful they are yet your not upgrading the body armor of the troops so they have a better chance of surviving direct hits from these same weapons.

The reason they didn't do large vehicles is because it would be a hassle to have to disassemble them, take them down into Cheyenne mountain, then through the gate and would have to rebuild them. Not to mention the fact that a bunch of tanks showing up on flatbeds at an air force facility that doesn't have a runway would draw a lot of attention. Especially when the vehicles never come back out. The real world explanation is, because it would be way to expensive. Tanks need people to operate them, mechanics to keep them working, and an expensive insurance policy in case someone gets run over or killed by one.

I think a good reason is that tanks would usually be unnecessary. Depending on the writers that day, staff weapons could destroy thick stone walls so the tank would have reduced defensive use. Also, what few fights SGC engaged in that they had the preparation to deploy to open battle were against entrenched enemies and better dealt with through guerilla tactics. Lastly, the SG teams were meant to be diplomatic first. Tanks would go against their ethos for cooperating with new civilizations.
