So essentially, palpatine is exactly why the Jedi were right to collect force sensitive children. Left on their own, a force sensitive child had the potential to be extremely dangerous to the galaxy around them if they misused their abilities.

That creates an Unknown Region sized plot hole though. If they were so concerned with a dangerous and unchecked Force user, who not recruit older kids and adults who fell through the cracks. That never made sense to me. Yes, they'd be harder to mold, but wouldn't leaving an untrained, possibly embittered Force user to their own devices even worse?

It does seem odd that the Jedi didn't care. It could be that an untrained individual could only use the force to such a limited degree that they weren't a threat. (Ray kind of throws a wrench into this theory). I believe If the Jedi had known about the Sith they would have done things differently. After all the did allow Obi-Wan to train Anakin once they learned of the Sith after TPM

Maybe when aniken was a child he was accidentally masking himself. If you think about it, a slave probally tries their best to keep their head down and not draw attention to themselves. Maybe this feeling in aniken allowed the masking power to manifest itself thus hiding him from any force sensative Jedi.

Naboo has a strong dark side aura about it according to Plagueis, it is possible, this planetary aura masked Palpatine, Tatooine is similar, since the Rakatan used dark side fueled weapons to glass the entire planet, everything ages, corrodes faster there, and not just because of the binary suns. A strong planetary force aura can mask force users if they don't overuse their power. Little Sheev simply born on the right planet.

I think even with exceptional masking abilities someone who was so force sensitive as Palpatine should have stuck out like a sore thumb - even if the jedi couldn't feel him personally, you would think he would at the least be present as a glaring anomaly in the distribution of the force (or however that should be worded). B/c even though he wasn't as powerful as Anakin, he was clearly one of the most powerful force users in the galaxy and you'd think there would be only so much one could do to hide that. Even with Anakin, Vader and Palpatine could sense something was up with him even before they identified him for what he was.

I think you're underestimating how well Palpatine was at shielding. He was shielding his Force presence and was so good at it that Plagues didn't even know that Palpatine was Force sensitive at first.

In the Darth Plagueis novel, Palpatine is mostly portrayed as evil incarnate, even from the time of his birth. And the only reason the Jedi didn't find him is because he had a more natural inclination towards evil and what the Bane era of the sith represented rather than towards the Jedi teachings. And Palpatine only allowed himself to be discovered by Darth Plagueis because it was his only way to become anointed as a true sith lord. Darth Sidious/Palpatine didn't fully reveal himself to Plagueis and his intentions until he murdered his master.

2:12-2:20 Uh... I'm not sure where this idea came from, people keep saying this and it's completely wrong. The Jedi never took Force Sensitive infants away from their families, it was never stated that they did or ever would. The Jedi REQUEST a Force Sensitive infants be taken into training and if the parents refuse they can't, ever. Parents give up their children to be trained as Jedi 100% voluntarily with full understanding that they will not see them again, NEVER by force or Force of any means. Alan mentions this, which makes it that much more confusing that the parents of galaxy would be paranoid of losing their children when it's not possible.

The more I see and learn about the Old Republic and the Jedi Order, how they operate, what they did/didn't do, and so on, the more I can see how the common citizen would cheer when Palpitine swept it away and created the Empire. In a lot of ways, both the Old Republic and the Jedi Order personified indifference to others but wrapped it in aura of benevolent sainthood.
