Please. Dirty? Not even close. In 1978 No Wave was completely, utterly obscure outside of a couple dozen Downtown NYC art freaks. The only reason Eno knew about it is cause he lived in downtown NYC, he was an acolyte of obscure art music developments, and he was sleeping with the "manager" of the Contortions. She turned Eno on to this scene and upon first sight Eno recognized it as a phenomena in need of documentation. By the time Sonic Youth recorded their first record around 1980, the No Wave scene was long dead already. No one cared about "No Wave" or even heard of it for decades, aside from Thurston Moore giving it a shout out in magazine interviews when asked about the influences on Sonic Youth.

PS. I used to work at a famous record store in the 90s in Melbs and one day I looked up from the counter and was face to face with Thurston Moore 🤣🤣 He was really nice and signed my Daydream Nation c.d (I had the vinyl copy at home) I still keep the autograph cd in my car and play it all the time

Goo is probably my favorite album by Sonic Youth, to be fair that album as a whole was my own introduction to the world of alternative and punk as whole while I was still a basic rap white boy. I think Dirty is by far the most meaningful but Goo and Daydream Nation will always hold a special place in my heart. My Friend Goo was the first ever alternative song I ever heard and enjoyed, my music taste only evolved from there.

Goos is my fave album but Daydream Nation used to be before that - good for you though for loving such an epic band in this day and age! Classics never go out of style - Ive seen them play several times when I was a teenager back in the 90s here in Melbourne, Australia - a m a z I n g b a n d ! ! !

"Alternative" was a buzzword the majors used as they were moving towards mining indie bands for contracts - but they obviously still couldn't call it indie. It's a near-meaningless category only describing bands that weren't signed to majors... before they were signed to majors :)

@@vozvolta271 I gotta go with Goo though most will probably say Daydream Nation. 100 Percent is a strong opening track and the highlight of the album but the rest of the album is hit or miss imo.
