Great video as always, thank for sharing. I also find it important to do things we like/love to do, which are aligned with ourselves, and make us happy. For my part : _Read book : so I try to read at minimum 3 or 5 pages a day. _Meditation : 15 minutes minimum everyday, I often do 30 min or more. _Physical activity : 5 min a day _Make videos : I know it's rare that I can write an entire script the same day. I have a tons of scripts started, I always end-up by continuing 2 or 3 scripts the same day. Having always many ideas which pop in the mind, the incapacity to process more informations and to think, or slowing of thought, and being distracted by my own thoughts and ideas, or wanting to accomplish so much things and perfectionism doesn't help. (Giftedness, Asperger/Autism and possible ADHD) At the end, I make at least one video per week, I think it's already better than nothing. Even if I want to accomplish so much more, I would like 2 to make 2 videos by week, often it's not possible. Which is frustrating 😅 Sometimes even if we want, we can't, we are limited by our functioning : including energy physical/mental/emotional, brain functioning and cognitives functions. My consciousness : Hey you are INTJ, not ENTJ. It's maybe an INTJ thing to set too big or too high goals, and the Te want to accomplish a lot of things or be very productive. We have to be realist and kind with ourselves.

I had something like a 1300 day streak in duolingo, but over the course of three years my motivation for learning Spanish became irrelevant due to job changes and so on. One day after it had come to feel like a burden, I just quit and literally never went into the app again. Root motivation is extremely important.

It's cool to hear someone talk about this realistically. While "productivity" advocates do touch on the importance of doing what is meaningful or excites you, they often don't discuss how easy it is to take the discipline messages to heart over the "wrong" things. Then, the person who hits a wall thinks they don't have enough grit or are "lazy" when what they really need is a priority check. Really great discussion about how consistency figures into discipline, too. Thanks Chris! Recently I've been motivated to be physically active regularly and build up strength/endurance so that I can do more activities. I've worked on my fitness in the past and saw great results, but I've done a couple rounds of slacking off for year or so and then getting into it again. Yet, every time I slack off, I'm still starting from a better place than before - there is more of a foundation under it (I know where the resources are, I have a good idea of what I'm doing, my baseline fitness is still improved, etc.). So, even if there are periods where I'm not consistent, there is still progress and results that matter. I've been learning that being overly self-critical about discipline can kill motivation. It has to be fun, on some level, to be consistent.

This happened to me in college! I was going along great guns, and whammo, I just wanted to quit! It was about 4/5 of the way through a fall semester and it really caught me off guard. I also was just thinking about it last night as I studied some web design and it's something that I'd say I'm motivated to look at right now but I'm not consistent - this is probably my third stab at the apple on this class. Do you have any tips for building consistency off of one of these flare ups of motivation? Great video, thanks!

2:25 Does this tie with identity forclosure? (In identity forclosure, the person has a high commitment but a low exposure; those who are in this stage hastily get themselves into a life path or are forced/pushed to go into a life path.) In other words, does high consistency but low motivation "translate" to high commitment but low exposure? Or are these two separate?

Having come out the other side of burnout: Try new things that you hadn't considered before without any pressure to achieve anything in particular, things that are fun and don't make you feel tired... and trust yourself that burnout is not a permanent state or a failure, but a message that something needs to change.
