I don't use social media (other than KZbin) and have all but completely disconnected from the news since the US election in order to preserve my mental health. In general, I have found that days spent offline are WAY more fulfilling than days spent mostly online. Devote your energies to positive things, things you enjoy, and creating positive change in your community instead of doomscrolling. You'll feel better!

Frist things first. Take care of physical and mental self. Disconnecting more and more from social media. Reducing stress, increasing clam, better, and restful sleep. Only following things that bring me joy -- like your channel Jaks.

I disconnect with reading a book (fantasy or romance genre). Impo, just because I know the world is going to burn ahead of time doesn't mean my one bucket of water is going to put out the bonfire. So, if I can help, I help. If I can't, I hope the people who can do it. We can't save everyone. We can't fix everything. We can't always be the voice of change. Sometimes, the best course of action is no action.

Your channel helps my mental health tremendously. I’m a first responder and I see some really nasty shit. Plus I suffer from severe PTSD.

Circumstances dictate limited access to many different experiences and social media platforms are an important role in my learning skills to help understanding me as well as others!🙏

A timely vlog on evaluating one’s daily consumption of social media. I usually find myself going down various rabbit holes on a daily basis. I'm probably giving my algorithms a run for its money. I have that character trait where I want to learn all I can about a subject. The internet and social media is where I can easily sourse a lot of information.TBH I have avoided many sites about US and world politics. A popup of a news blurb is unavoidable and that's where I draw the line.

I appreciate your point on not sacrificing who we are for the sake of pleasing others and maintaining our self-preservation, but a possible point of contention is that I think sometimes it is important to listen to people whom we initially don't want to listen to, so that we can broaden our horizons and gain perspective. For example, people who don't like your channel could honestly benefit from listening to you as you shed some great insights on the life experience, and homophobic people could listen to queer people share their stories in order to better understand the struggles within the community, even though doing so would go against their initially homophobic regimes. An open mind can really do wonders, and sometimes having the patience to hear others out, even if we might be uncomfy at first, can help us become better humans; surrounding ourselves with only those who think like us may instead only cause unhealthy divisions

Good stuff. I especially liked the discussion about curating your media feeds. I did that with Dodo to get a daily dose of wholesome, real, dog, cat and other animal videos to ease away from nasty political news. Just one concern - curating can lead you into a silo, where you miss out on some different povs that can make you think and reassess a bit beyond your current comfort zone.

Maybe this can help! A reporter once asked Einstein for his phone number. He replied he didn't know it. The reporter couldn't believe it, but Einstein also added he "never clutters his mind with things he could look up in a book"! So whereas it is impressive that you know many things about other countries, are you cluttering your mind?

I can’t help but think that you could benefit from spending more time strengthening your own platform,, be left in no doubt about who you are,,,, galvanising your worth in terms of your personality your goodness, your ability to shake others opinions off your back like a duck ,,,,,,,,, you’re the entire package, but possibly your own worst critic. Stop it ,,, enjoy who you are and afford yourself an occasional thumbs up. ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️❤️🇬🇧🇳🇱🇳🇴🇮🇪🇫🇷🇮🇹🇩🇰🇵🇱🇺🇸🇸🇪🇭🇺🇫🇮🇨🇭🇺🇦🇩🇪🇷🇺🇸🇮🇨🇳
