Divinity is phenomenal, easily one of my top three games of all time. I've never been remotely interested in RPG style games but I've put over 120 hours into DOS 2 already, and I've only just got to Arx. Great review, Dan.

Dude, I totally agree. I put in 150 hours and made it to Arx for the very first time. And I have 5 other characters to play with PLUS the player creation character. It feels like a new game everytime.

most of them need to be purchased from merchants. They rarely get dropped in the game. there are multiple tiers of spell book, go by level 1, 4, 9, 16 … some books must be crafted by combining 2 books and cannot appear on vendors.

This game is kinda redefined the genere by giving you a full world instead of a nice painted background with a few useable part what highlighted. It went so many level deep I truly felt I playing a roleplay game. And while I was not realyl alined to its promisses I fully got immersed at the end and started to care about my companions and felt sorrow when hard choices needed to make.

It's just how Larian Studios rolls. Amazing company. BG 3 is looking bright. No need for preordering. By the way - multiplayer co-op is amazing in this game. You need to try it with friends. It's really fun setting them ablaze or teleporting them in the middle of acid pools..

Written May 27, 2022 Amazingly, Divinity 2 is also on iPad…and even better is it’s the Definitive Edition too. Any recent iPad as far back as iPad Pro 2018 can play it at the same graphical fidelity as ps4 Pro, which is supremely outstanding. Surprised to see not many comments on your video so I’m just letting you know

I don’t mind longer videos, especially the ones where it tries to look into a game franchise as a whole rather than segmented episodes looking into ones in short bursts. It’s fine, go for it.

I can literally only think of two "bad" things about this game: First is that the game doesn't really let you play around too much once you reach the end. When you reach level 20-21 and complete your build you're basically done with the game and you can easily steamroll all the remaining fights including the final boss. I wish this game had respawning mobs or maybe an end-game arena where you could fight the strongest enemies and use your build to the fullest potential. Second is that some skill trees are considerably weaker than others. A physical build (two handed melee/necromancer) is way stronger than any type of elemental build and you have objectively 0 reason to use a hybrid build of any type since it's always better to go all in on a single type of damage. Other than this I have nothing to say. I've played through this game 7 or 8 times at this point, it's awesome

I agree with the first one, I really hoped for a final battle against the God King (I find the second phase of the final battle very anticlimactic in this game) or a DLC that focused on Malady's problem (I don't like loose ends, or having to buy another game to know the truth). In my case some of the "bad" things I can find are... First, while the party memebers are individually great, there is almost no interaction between them, they only talk to you and that's all, I think they could have taken some notes from Dragon Age Origins for this. Second, the music, don't misunderstand me, the music is a masterpiece, my complain is that how is not used at its fullest, some themes are overused, while others are barely used (Like the Shadow Prince battle theme), the game doesn't even have a proper Final Boss theme at all, I found that very disappointing. Also for the fight against your teammates for Divinity (in case some of them betray you at the end) the "The Battle for Divinity" theme was a MUST, instead the overused "Dancing with the Source" theme plays. And third, the romances, I felt them as an afterthought in this game, they are not even recognized by the ending slides of the game. Still, none of these points are something gamebreaking, the game is just amazing.

@@MysticleMonster . Came back to say I that I have already played Tactician with a mixed party, Warriors, Mages, Hybrid, in my last playthrough and had no problem to finish it. Yes it is a little harder, but definitely not impossible as some people make it sound. People really exaggerate in that aspect.

@@Worldlyy Just an update. After your comment I finally decided to give it a go. Wasn't too impressed at first. Didn't really enjoy the opening on the ship and running around fort joy not knowing what to do. I think it was between 10-15 hours in and things really started to click. I'm about 20 hours in now and am actually loving it. Played for a few hours this morning and want to fire it up again. So thanks for the recommendation.

@@pdinny3000 Honestly I had a similar experience as well, I was bored as hell in the beginning during the prison boat and fort joy section and wanted to uninstall. But after a few days of not playing because of work I went back to know to what the overwhelming positive fuss is on about (This is my first CRPG.) But after learning the mechanics, how drastically different your character and character builds can be compared to others, the music that builds up when you finally leave fort joy on a new island and how the world and lore works, it’s now up there being one of my favourite games of all time. I can see how for some people it’s just another RPG but for it’s fans it’s a masterpiece and it really is, it has it’s flaws like every other game but nothing gamebreaking though

If a video game could be just like dnd I doubt anyone would play dnd but I just don’t think it will ever be possible to create it. To make a game that imitates the freedom and collaboration of dnd would require a level of game design that’s still millions of miles away. Larian did and amazing job though. Bg is the closest a game has ever got to that sense of freedom.

DOSII quality is also in the respect that Larian has for its players intelligence. They do not take you by the hand, you have to make a lot of trial and errors and figure things out. They give the players the tools in a giant tool box, and its up to the players to figure out how to best use those tools, evne if it means breaking the game. Sven Vincke, Larian's CEO, said it, "we know that people like to use cheese and shenanigans when they can, and discover them, cause it gives them a sens of discovering some forbidden lore, something unique, wich in turn, makes them feel unique, its player agency, and we do not wish to take it off of their hands." "We actually kinda enjoy seeing people break stuff, by using the tools that we gave them, try things and figures what works best or not, and find different paths and solutions for a given obstacle, its the freedomthat we give to the players and we will not take it away from them" All of this gives a sens of discovery and gives exploration and testing so much weight and importance. A bit like with what Elden Ring and Fromsoftware does their worldbuilding and exploration in some sens... I've found myself enjoying more games like this, where if i pay attention i can have all the info i can get, but it still leave me enough the fuck alone to figure things out and discover stuff, through testing and exploring. Valheim is a good example of a game that gives you the bare minimum of info fo you to go on the right track, but gives you enough leeway to explore, discover and try things yourself. Heck i feel like DOOM eternal does the same thing, with how you can "build" your Doom slayer through the weapon mods and the suits abilities and the Runes you choose from, and that ALL the rewards you collect through the game is done through Exploration to find secrets, or simply playing the game. Its that "Old School" quality in a modern game feeling, like how you felt when you played TES Daggerfall for the first time decades ago, or Blood Omen, or the first DOOM or Castle Wolfenstein.
@SeventhheavenDK

Totally agree with this.. Having options will always be good, some people complain about the possibility of cheesing, but as I have always said. Having options is always good and you will make use of the options that fit better your playstyle.

Can I ask a comment section for advice? I really, really want to play this game, but I just can't commit so much time to play every character like I used to. So I really want to just pick one main character to play. I understand that you can do a lot with several people, but my rp matters a lot to me. Anyways, I just end up making a character, playing thru the first bit, and then restarting with a different character. I know I can't just ask people to make a decision for me, so what I want to ask is more ... which matches my main interests, if anybody knows. I prefer the aesthetic of a heavy armor sword type, but I prefer the combat of a magic type, so it really doesn't matter too much to me. I also would prefer a pretty strong dps class, though also obviously can do other things because you run with four people. I also really want an engaging and believable character. Nothing is worse to me than cheesy writing or a character who feels like a childish back story / storyline. Any advice? I know it's vague, but I'd appreciate. I really want to see all there is to see in this beautiful looking game.

I actually didn't care for disco Elysium. I found the choices in the game to mostly be an illusion. No matter what my build I failed the vast majority of rolls and just ended up going wherever the game took me. Which is fine for a visual novel but for a game marketed as an rpg, I feel like the player should have a little more agency. Great visuals and great characters, but not for me.
