Is Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition worth playing still? Definitely! Its a fantastic RPG with a great mix of exploration, story, character development, player-choice, humour and turn-based combat. Made by Larian Studios (also behind the upcoming Baldurs Gate 3) it has become one of my favourite games. I hope you enjoy my Divinity Original Sin review, and also check out my new players guide if you haven't played before.

Hey man, I know this is an old video but thank you for being so thorough while also avoiding spoilers. I am a huge fan of real-time with pause, but I got used to the turn based combat system. I’m playing it on Xbox Series X along with NWN enhanced, now I’m craving more crpg console ports, there aren’t enough yet and not all of them are ported well, but this one is! And it loads a lot faster on XSX than on XOneX.

@@MarksGameReviews quite possibly one of my top 5 games of all time, and I've played a LOT of game. If not top 5 it's definitely, definitely top 10. It's just stunning, deep, well written, incredibly engaging and immersive and super replayable. I agree with your rating, DOS EE is an amazing game! I'm still working my way through the first map area, and there are so many quests and side quests, but I'm enjoying taking my time and the combat is a lot of fun. Having also played the first act of its sequel and also a little bit of the EA of BG3, I think this is still my favourite so far. I love all the humour, and the fact that it doesn't take itself too seriously. For me, the darker themes in say BG3 make that hard to watch at times. I'd rather play a game like DOS EE, or The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk which I also highly recommend.

I love the way that the game encourages you to search a little harder or dig a little deeper into quests as there are often extra bits there - like all the secrets you can turn up when investigating the initial murder! I'm sure I missed some extra bits of story there :)

It's nice to see an updated review/impressions of the game in 2020. I played Original Sin 2 in 2019 and see this amazing game as a bridge to the strategy games genre. Like you, as I await the release of BG 3, as it's being carefully crafted by the talented Larian Studios, I thought 🤔 it be good to revisit the Original Sin prequel. Such a divergent storyline between one and two, isn't it? Going from being the hunter to the hunted, Ravi Peiris M.D.

It’s a truly fantastic game, there’s no doubt about it. I can honestly say I loved it, I’ve beat it twice now. However, the one aspect of the game that I hated with a passion was the ground hazards. Lava terrain, posious gas, electrified air; I found it annoying to navigate these parts. I found myself throwing one of the warping totems to an empty space and then warping to it over and over just to pass certain parts, and I always was frustrated doing this bc it felt like there was some real way you were supposed to do it that I couldn’t figure out. I kept thinking “this can’t be what the devs intended.” And yet, when I would read online, tons of ppl recommended this strategy and said that’s the only way they know how to pass said parts. Idk, awesome games with a couple frustrating aspects

I was looking into playing Divinity: Original Sin 2 and I've heard good things, but I've not played the first one so a question for anyone really, Should I play Divinity: Original Sin 1 before going into 2? I know some say it doesn't really impact the story etc if you go straight into Divinity 2, just trying to approach this with what will hold my attention better as some also recommended playing older titles etc within a certain game franchise but I find depending on the type the older games can be pretty rough. Any thoughts? open to anyone.

I played through 1 before 2 and while the stories are not really connected, there were some characters that appeared again in 2 which was really cool, as I already knew their history (and which isn't explained in 2, as they are not major characters and it doesn't matter for their parts in that game). So its not essential to play through 1 first at all, but I'm glad I did for the few references that popped up. Also the combat system is different in 2, particularly in regards to armour and damage. Not necessarily better or worse, but something you will need to adjust to no matter which order you play the games in. Personally I think I preferred the system in 1, but its just personal preference. They are both incredible games and you will have fun with either :)

Switch is definitely not as good and 30 FPS sucks but it’s not as bad on a game like this. It’s amazing it’s even on Switch at all which is awesome. As for Baulders Gate 3 I purchased it around a month ago. Have around 40 hours on it and it’s going to be an amazing game as well. Still buggy and needs work but it’s getting there. Since the newest Druid update I haven’t played it though I’ve seen and heard it’s fantastic. I’m waiting until full release to dive back in. I just started DOS 2 myself about two weeks ago after beating this one. What an amazing game. Anyone interested needs to stop waiting and play it now! 93% on Metacritic, overwhelmingly positive score on Steam, 8.8 Metacritic user score, tons of awards, PC Gamer Game of the Year, 10/10 by Gamespot, 9.6 by IGN, on and on. If your new to the series I’d suggest to start with 2 not this one. While both are fantastic you don’t need to play 1 to enjoy 2 and it has an insane amount of content and play time. You can then go back and play 1 if you love 2 which I’m sure you will.

@ace052330
@ace052330 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarksGameReviews Phew where to begin lol. You will love the game. Your review of the first one tells me that no doubt. It was on sale on Steam for 17.99 not sure if it still is! My favorite build is a battlemage that uses Aerothurge magic. A lot of people call it a Stormchaser. It’s a mage that basically dodges all physical attacks and keeps all enemies stunned, silenced, and blinded the entire time doing insane damage. Since they are silenced they have to attack you with physical attacks which you almost always dodge. As for the most powerful build in the game it’s definitely Archer/Ranger. I paired summoning with my Ranger but I’ve read that pure Ranger is better. Two handed warriors are very strong and duel wielding rogues as well. Really you can’t wrong with anything! A 4 player team of all water builds is fantastic because water increases in damage off of itself. It also freezes then which means they can’t act at all. In DOS 2 there is armor system. It’s very diff from 1 in that you can’t inflict any effects or status until you first strip away the units magic and or physical armor. Same with your chars. Keeping your armor high is very important as you can’t be CCD as long as you have some. They also added some more stats, talents, tags, spells, etc which make it just a huge playground of variety. I’m playing through with a Aerothurge BattleMage, Hydro ranged Mage, Two handed warrior which is half Warfare half necromancy so as it deals damage it heals itself and keeps its armor high by being aggressive, and a Ranger/summoner hybrid. I tried to take two magic units and two physical units for my first go so that given the situation I can remove both types of armor from units well. As if you use magic spells and remove all magic armor from a unit your physical attacking characters still won’t deal vitality damage as they have to go through the physical armor first. So it’s best to focus one or the other per unit. Some even say it’s best to go with an all magic team or all physical team but I wanted a split. You will be fine regardless it’s such a great game.

@@ace052330 Oh nice, a new combat system to learn. I'll look forward to getting my head around that! I played a pure archer in the first game and it was incredibly strong. @ace052330
@ace052330 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarksGameReviews Yea totally different. All the interactions are similar plus even new ones. But the armor system makes it a lot diff and harder as well. Very fun. Since magic spells scales off stats it’s almost always best to use a wand and shield on a mage to get the extra physical and magic armor from the shield. Armor system is incredibly important. Once you learn it you basically got it covered. You can make some cool hybrid Ranger/Warrior builds with Spears since they scale from Finesse. It only cost 1AP to weapon swap in combat so you can use spears up close and bows/crossbows from range. Warfare also gives you more damage for both bows and spears so it goes together very well. Like a Warefare Ranger with some Huntsman and scoundrel would prob be super potent. Really everything is strong so enjoy. If you KZbin Eternal Warrior. That’s how I made my Warrior and it shows you some of the armor system in action. Really cool game.

@@MarksGameReviews Side-note: gosh, you are so personable and kind! Thank you for curating a positive environment for game discussion. Anyway, in some ways it may be best to make your entire party only either do physical OR magical damage, simply because of the two health bars. I did a mixed party, but it only worked because I had a dedicated summoner and a dedicated archer, who do both types of damage equally. (Summoners are amazing and I can't recommend them enough btw). The Torturer talent is pretty much required for any DPS mage. But I really do miss the wondrous environmental effects of the first game. I will agree with what the reviewer wrote... Being a World of Warcraft (MMO) player for like..14 years or so, I' am used to toggling spell dragging off/on. Of course, in WoW, with so many abilities on your bars, you won't be using mouse clicking often. Like you said, there is a rush in that type of games. You have to keybind your rotation. But there are some occasional abilities (portals, spesific buffs etc) that I still use with mouse clicks. Anyway, I believe that, a problem that can be solved, should be solved even if it bothers only a "few" people. The solution to this inconvenience is very very simple. It can just be an option in the Menu. Like "Spell Dragging Off - Drag whith Shift Enabled" or smth like that. It will help those who need it and won't disturb those who don't need it. So, problem would be solved.

@@Emp6ft10in That is a pretty good description of most combats actually! There are ways to counter the big pool of fire we always seems to be stood in. One is to be careful of using oil and poison spells/arrows/effects, as they produce a surface which can be set alight or instantly combust/explode if there is a fire source present where you use them. Very handy for using on the enemy, but easy to engulf yourself too as we have all done. Start building up some fire resistant sets of armour and gear. You'll want it for some fights later anyway and it can really help in the meantime too. You can just switch it in and out as you need it. Having somebody who can cast water spells is really handy. There is a rain spell that covers a huge area and can put out all those pesky fires under your characters feet. I should also add that managing this gets a lot easier as you get further into the game. You can combine many magical effects with the game surfaces. Like oil and poison can be set alight, water and steam electrified and water can be frozen too making it a very slippery surface indeed. Pro tip - combine any pair of boots with some nails to stop your character slipping on ice ;)

I think I prefer the combat in 1 also. I'm not convinced the "physical armour & magical armour" system in 2 is as good. But still, I did very much enjoy both games.

Also DOS 1 takes up way less storage space as well- 10 GB compared to around 40-60 GB for DOS 2

Cyseal philters me out of this game every time without fail. It's my kryptonite town and maybe my least favorite RPG starting area period. "SLIVER ME EELS,SLIVER ME EELS SLIVER ME EELS" Shut up!!!

The game is fun but the STILL UNFIXED save bug that rears its ugly head when your save file size gets close 7,000 kb to makes you unable to make any real progress after awhile. (not everyone seems to be afflicted by this so if any of you aren't, Lucky. You.) Bought the game during a steam-sale. Downloaded it and started playing on tactician with no knowledge of the game beforehand because I apparently like pain. Eventually got to the desert-canyon looking 'forest' with the spiders everywhere. Saved right before I decided to challenge the queen. Got curb-stomped, so I reloaded to try another strategy several times. Eventually I gave up and decided to explore some more and get more EXP. I fought the prick that demanded I use a bloodstone to heal him and then turned around to fight me right after, and after butchering him like the arrogant pig he was I tried to save. I got kicked back to the desktop where two dialog boxes informing me of two errors that were basically the same process but with two folders. Error code 504. The weird thing is, while most people full-on crash and have to restart the program, mine keeps running. It just doesn't save and throws that error code at me. I've wasted a few days searching about for info as to what it is, what causes it, and what fixes or work-arounds there are. 7 years since release, and there does not seem to be an official fix that actually works. There are several potential work-arounds that players have found.....if you have Windows 10 32 bit. I do not. I have 64 bit. So now I'm stuck halfway through a game that I can't beat because it won't let me save anymore. Yes, I've tried deleting other save files. Yes, I've tried making a new profile and copying the most recent save file over. Yes, I looked into altering my in-game settings to one degree or another. Yes, I tried looking up mods that might fix it(no dice. There were also very few mods that looked interesting on Nexus. Try another place if you want those.). Yes, I've tried to 'verify integrity of game files'. Yes, I tried running it as an administrator. (There's another still-unfixed bug involving the song that plays when you encounter bosses or particularly hard enemies that plays, and when it ends no other music will play for that battle unless you save/quicksave and reload in it. But it's not like you can't have music from another source playing in the background.) This is driving me crazy! I love this game, and there is simply no point in trying to play it anymore because any progress I make it lost. I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is making me miss typing in those paragraph-long codes from Yee Old NES days.

Sorry to hear that :( I haven't come across this issue myself fortunately. Is it with the Steam version? Have you tried sending your save file to somebody else (or transferring it to another PC/laptop if you own one) and loading it there? Just to see if the issue is still present.

Pretty funny, you say, wew, the writing is so good! Then you highlight two sentences where they use the word "very" in each one... my writer's spirit is offended

most overrated game in 2010s. Not a bad game but nowhere near a metascore of 90.

Who rated it a metascore of 90? Even so I wouldn't consider it overrated at that. I think it was an excellent game and worth every penny.

Not the game for me. Too much talking, blah blah blah... I like turn based rpgs, but this is not for me. Unfortunately, I can't get a refund anymore.
