Great explanation. I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and I would like to add that oil and filters are cheap. Engines are not cheap. Good preventative maintenance goes a long way. (My opinion)

I just did the first oil change on my ‘22 FishPro today at 24 hrs. Not so much for the hours but I’m almost at six months. If you do it exactly as Seadoo says, you’ll get the full 3.5 qts of old oil out. The West Marine 7qt manual oil extractor is a wonderful thing.

I have a jet boat with twin ace 300 engines, Scarab recommended oil change is at 50 hours but dealers always recommend after 10 hours you change oil, oil filter. As was already mentioned it's cheap insurance comparative to premature engine wear. I plan on doing the exact same thing on my Sea-Doo.

Back when Sea-Doo required the 10hr service it was a great opportunity for GOOD dealers to catch problems early. Check the carbon ring, all hose clamps, plug into BUDS, etc. I did it on our new Switch, it needs software updates anyway 👍

Talking with Yamaha mechanics, they said that the factory puts break in oil in the engine. After ten hours, do an oil change to normal oil and a filter. The break in oil is designed just for the break in period. Once you change it out, it's back to 50 hours for every change. In the old days that's how hot rodders used to break in their engines. When we had all kinds of things in oil that we don't have today. I'm at three hours on both my FX Cruisers, and I will change the oil myself at ten or so. I'll take it to a dealer for valve adjustment at 100 hours, if I don't do that myself, too.

At the end of the season lets say It is time to change the oil. Would you recommend changing the oil so the new oil sits in the engine during winter or should I put the new oil in at the beginning of the new season? The manual says 50hr/ once a year. On a side note the Sand docker is amazing thank you for the recommendation on your other video.
@dreknotz19962 жыл бұрын
I doesn't matter when. Typically shops will recommend doing it before the spring season ( fall season ) when the shops aren't as busy.
@bubba.watercraftj72692 жыл бұрын
That question can be debated either way. In my opinion as a past boat mechanic, we used to recommend to our customers to change oil before winter storage to get out contamination, acids, combustion by-product,etc before it sits for 8 months during storage. Always do what the manufacturer and or dealer recommends because you don’t want a warranty dispute if there is ever a catastrophic failure.
@watercraftjournal2 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree with Dre on this one. I don't like the idea of contaminants (unspent fuel, carbon, etc.) marinating in your bearings over the winter. -K
@bubba.watercraftj72692 жыл бұрын
@@watercraftjournal I misread Dre’s comment. And agree with Dre as well. All I saw was spring season and interpreted their statement backwards. Spring vs. fall. I personally would recommend the oil change in the fall before storage. Even though we were busy both in the fall with winterizations and busy in the spring with recommissioning service. Key thing is to read owner’s manual and do the proper services when required. I always wish customers would read them. Saves a lot of problems for the customer.
@davidmasseria86872 жыл бұрын
Deff at the end of the season before winter. You don’t want that old contaminated oil sitting in your engine all winter. Clean fresh oil is better for storage and won’t be all gunked up.

Yamaha recommends a 10 hour oil change, and trust me, the shit looks like a bad cup of coffee. No viscosity, black as hell. Almost like Kerosene. But it’s there for a purpose to let things wear in. Years ago Chevrolet Corvettes came thru with Mobel 1 from the factory. People were bitchin they blew though a quart every 3K . Why synthetic oil was not letting piston rings to seat causing blow by. So! Break it in properly and get that stuff out.
