@@protestant77 Hey that's awesome, but did you know Jesus actually told about 72 or 77 different things we must do if we are to actually follow Him ? They are in the Gospels see if you can find them . Most of his commands are repeated in the different gospels but there's a good 70+ of sayings where He requires us to do these things if we are going to follow Him. For example "Love your enemies...." is not often considered a "commandment " but it is a requirement if we are to be true followers of Christ.

1 meal a day isn’t too bad if you make it count, it could even be healthy for you
@maten146
@maten146 5 ай бұрын
One meal is not nothing, you can make sure to have lot of oil in it, proteins (for instance fish (authorised), beans, ...) and carbs (pasta, rice). Also, it could actually be beneficial to you as a lot of people find that they focus better especially in the morning when they do not eat. However, if you cannot have just one meal a day, in the traditional fasting it has quickly been authorised to have two snacks (each snack have to be less than 8 onces and cannot cumulated be more than the daily meal) in the day in addition to the meal. For instance, I will have some proteins in the morning as the first snack, and a soup in the evening as the second snack.

If we are walking in Spirit, fasting is a lifestyle. It's not just a particular fixed religious norm & regulations. As a believer of Jesus, one should always have a fasting routine. Some who walk spiritually would choose a particular day in a week. Every week. It also depends on some months, where one may do more fasting depending spiritually being led by the Holy spirit.

From USCCB Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. Members of the Eastern Catholic Churches are to observe the particular law of their own sui iuris Church.

The Holy season of Lent (Nombu kalam) which is 4th in the Liturgical calender of the Syro Malabar Catholic Church, starts from the feast of "Pethratha Sunday", this day is observed in eastern traditions to prepare for the coming season of lent. It is celebrated as a last day of feasting before completely undertaking fasting till Easter. Starting from this day (Pethartha) the 50th day is Easter Sunday, which starts the Season of Resurrection (Uyirppu Kalam). The time of fasting starts after the Ramsha (Evening Prayer) on this sunday, and therefore "Viboothi" (Ash Monday) is observed on the next day morning, giving a total of 48 days of fasting. The Ash Monday is also called Pure Monday, as mark of purifying yourselves of all vices and letting go all things that keep you attached to the world. The condition of fasting is left up to the individual, with people giving major food and drinks being the basic, (usually meat, milk, dairy, egg, sugar, coffee, or other drinks). The church prohibits all celebrations, personal or church based on this period, especially sacrament of Holy Matrimony. The last week or the "Holy Week" has varying observations, yet largely follow the same criteria for fasting. The only day of celebration is the 'Oshana' or Palm Sunday, yet it still follows rules of the season. The longest period of continuous fasting starts after the Maundy Thursday prayers in the evening till the Good friday noon (The time considered to be the time of death). This starts with the consumption of the 'Pesaha Appam' which is a tasteless bread that sets as a reminder of the last meal our Lord had before his suffering. This fasting is usually complete fasting, as in no food at all, (depending on health and age). Most often, the only intake is water or a special juice made from bittergaurd called 'Kayapp Neer' which means Sour Water, a reminder of the only consumption of our Lord had in the end. This is usually given in the church during the Good Friday service. Sadly, the present generations are seeing less and less observance, which is a sad reality. (Still there is just 49 days in the season, as day 50 is Easter, but it is still called the 50 day fasting, specifically the 'Valiya Nombu' which means the Great Fast, being the longest of all fasting periods in the liturgical calender).

If anyone is willing to answer. I have been diving deep into Church history and the Scriptural basis for the Pope. Which I am leaning to be on board with. My one issue is the historical case past the 4th and 5th century. I find dozens of quotes for the Pope, but then we also get people like Cyprian and John Chrysostom who sound like they are denying Papal Infallibility. The quotes I find lean towards an Orthodox view of the Pope and not a Catholic view. Do we go as far as to the John Chrysostom and others were horribly wrong about the Pope? This is my one hangup on the Pope and Catholicism. Any feedback or help would be greatly appreciated. God Bless

This is great proof that papal infallability was an orthodox and early teaching but if you truly think someone is wrong you cannot go against your conscience like Cyprian. But as history always have proved; all those who fight Rome end up wrong. In regards to John Chrysostom what do you mean? He’s a huge papal supremacist but have you found something against papal infallability in Him? Do you even know what papal infallability is Brother/Sister? It’s a very narrow thing.

I am not well versed on the particular statements or quotes that you are referring to from these men. But I can say from experience that anything I stumbled on in my research about Catholic Teachings was eventually answered with prayer , research , contemplating, with a honest desire to know the Truth so I could get a closer relationship with Jesus. A Catholic Monk told me at the age of 20..." Keep seeking you will find what your looking for.." It wasn't until age of 40 that I made my Confirmation in the Catholic Church. And the answers to some questions I still have are slowly being revealed. Be Blessed Keep Seeking You Will Find What Your Looking For. +t+

Consider this: The Catholic church considers the Orthodox church as a valid church with valid saints and a valid priesthood, that is valid Eucharist. If the Catholic church is right, then you are not losing anything going Orthodox. You will be having a rich valid tradition of liturgy, traditions, saints and joint communities that love each other.
@Mach15-20
@Mach15-20 5 ай бұрын
@@kianoghuz1033 No we dont consider them having valid saints. Only pre-schism saints are valid. Totally wrong. Stop being arrogant when you dont know theology. You are just like the protestants who follow their own whims and desires. If you go pseudo-orthodox you will lose your soul in the fires of hell. This is the Catholic Faith which unless a man keep whole and undefiled, he shall perish everlastingly. Fake Catholic.

Yes you can, as long of course as you do not put anything in your coffee. Milk is prohibited during the whole lent, and if you put sugar in your coffee it would be considered as food so you could take it only during the main meal. If you do not put anything in your coffee including sugar then take it whenever you want.

Fast from something else - like social media/your tv/your phone. My son who suffered anorexia and due to still having ED thoughts despite being weight restored it is not advised by the doctors or Priest for him to fast from food because there is a risk he could slip back into his anorexia. The church permits alternative fasting when your health dictates it is not a good idea to fast - as our bodies are temples from God for the a Holy Spirit to dwell so we should always look after our bodies while making sacrifices for God

You will not gain wait but you can put a lot of olive oil for instance in your daily meal and eat fatty fish in order to have a minimum of calories.
@maten146
@maten146 5 ай бұрын
Of course, my advice only stand if your will to gain wait is not dictated by health need, if so you can be dispensed from that fast, but you could for instance still follow the abstinence of meat, dairy and eggs.

I like this traditional fasting but I believe that it can be dangerous when you have diabetes or any other chronic disease impacting metabolism, or an eating disorder. I have a health issue that exarcerbates when fasting (I have Gilberts Syndrome) so sadly, I can't fast for too long 😥For those of you who can do this traditional fasting, God bless you all 🙏✝

Fish has never been prohibited in the Latin rite. Thomas d'Aquinas developed quite a lot on why, you can look it up. But therefore, only animals that are not fish and their products (dairy, eggs) are prohibited, fish on the other hand is allowed.
