My cat rarely snuggles, certainly never lays on top of me. I was in a nearly fatal head-on collision. When I got home from the hospital, I could only lay on my back due to extensive injuries. The minute I got into bed, my cat was on my chest/stomach, where he stayed, PURRING, for the entire day/night. He sensed how hurt I was & was healing me with the vibration of his purrs. He continued to do this for me (off & on, esp. when the pain was the worst) over the course of a very long & brutal recovery. I don't think I'd be alive now if it weren't for my cat! I, too, have lost 2 cats to cancer...fibrosarcomas, and they were not in the tail or paws...they were near the spine. I also have a cat now...a stray that showed up when she was about 6 months old. She always sat on her flank more than on her bottom. Then, when she was about 9, she developed a wobble in her back legs. Took her right to the vet, and X-rays showed an old fracture in her spine where arthritis had set in. Her legs wobbled and she sat crooked because of the pain! 9 years of purring did not heal her, but the pain medication she's on now has worked wonders. She now sits normally, races around the house, and is clearly not experiencing the debilitating pain anymore. Purring releases endorphins, and that can help in the healing of of torn tendons. wounds, broken bones...but it does not cure cancer and does not mean an injured or sick cat can heal themselves. It can relieve stress, which we know can allow the body to heal better. Stress, even in humans, can make healing take longer. But this woman's claim about cancer is simply not fact. Ask any vet...the most common cancer in cats is lymphoma, a blood cancer. It's a shame this woman is spreading such nonsense. It could cause gullible people who don't bother to research the truth to allow their cat to suffer and even die, believing that their cat's purring is going to heal the poor thing.

Know what? In a few minutes the pain had gone. Explain it? No, I can't. It's an observation though.

Yep: I completed an online search on these "professionals" like I always do when we're highering specialists at my work and neither of these people are qualified in any way: "Doctor" Elizabeth von Muggenthaler? I didn't know you could call yourself a doctor with only a B.S. in Bio-Acoustics and a B.S. in Animal Behavior. Although surprisingly enough, her alma mater Old Dominion University doesn't seem to have or have ever had those undergraduate programs, so I'm guessing including that in her online CV is a scam too? The closest thing I could find in ODU's historical catalog was one undergraduate Biology course on Animal Behaviour. And then there's, "Feline Behaviourist" Beth Adelman. Beth at least has a graduate degree, in journalism of all things. I'm not seeing a certification on her online CV., but then that doesn't really matter. As far as I can tell, from a quick perusal online, these certifications seem to me to be a more expensive way of saying pet-trainer.

She looks like she was gonna cry the entire video and reminded me of that old meme of the girl crying saying she loves cats

the real reason cats purr is because it stems from when they were kittens. When lithe kittens are suckling, they purr to let the mum know they are good.

Except cats that are dying are obviously not good.

I thought that the purr was an exclusive thing they do at humans. To my knowledge cats don't comunicate to other cats by purring.

Yes they do. Momcats purr at their kittens to comfort them.

Wow. Leading the evidence much? A quick FFT showed that the audio samples are way different in the frequency spectrum. Different resonance, harmonics, etc. On top of that the house cat sample is played through line out while the cougar is played through crappy speakers with absolutely no low end. I doubt the filming of the cougar vs house cat segment were filmed in the sequence BBC shows us. Please release the actual sound clips from the good doctors research. And why was no FFT plot shown when talking about frequence? Cheers. Edit: Those Altec Lansing in the background come with a potent sub woofer. So much wrong with this interview.
