I have 4 adult discus and another who is a few months younger. of the 4 adults 3 are female and 1 is male. I have observed him spending time with each of the females. He thankfully appears to have chosen the female with whom I have not observed any squabbling and she also is the only one I have observed doing that shivering when beside him. And tonight I observed them together cleaning the side of a piece of driftwood. Although it looks like babies are in my near future I will wait and see what happens. I am not going to remove them until I know for sure that they are indeed producing viable eggs. I am really excited. I bought them when they were very small and have raised them, patiently waiting for this moment ...

I spent quite alot for a breeding pair, Is it normal, That a paired xl discus fight everytime you feed them. I was told by the breeder the male is not letting the female eat. I was told by the breeder it is they getting ready to breed, but nothing still. What is your opinion. Thanks.

Heyy. i have separated my 2 discus in a 35G tank. They dont fight, i dont see any bullying. They eat a lot and is always together. I tried to search for discus shaking and is one of a signs of pairing, but i noticed only 1 of my discus is shaking, and the other discus just ignore it. is that normal?

Hello Amit Bera, you can take one parent out only, or you can take both out. If you see the fry are not really eating from the parents anymore, then it's a good sign to remove them from the parents. The mucus composition of the parents change a lot within the first 2 weeks of parent raising. The mucus layer becomes a bit thinner, and the parents may become more irritated with the fry as well. 20 days after attachment is a suitable time to remove them from the parents yes. Feed brine shrimp. The parents may be fighting with each other for several reasons - sometimes the one parent wants to breed again and start over. The other one does not want to breed yet. So they start fighting. If you leave the fry with the parents, then you risk losing fry every day because the parents hurt them with fighting, or attack them, or eat them. So best is to remove they fry.
