Why do people keep doing things against animal nature because "it's funny/better looking/cute"? I seriously don't get it. An animal is an animal, not a human dressed up in a furry outfit.

I trimmed my dogs hair, he's got super crazy thick hot fur. People cut dogs hair for more than just looks, a dog meant to be in cooler environment would do well with a trim living down south, the hair is bred to look a certain way, nothing "natural" with any part of a pug for example. I cut my dogs hair so he's cooler and his facial hair is out of control. I realized I cut his wiskers and instantly knew I shouldn't have. I will not be trimming his face again. I actually was tryin to look up videos about how groomers trim the face without cutting wiskers...they just cut through them. Then I looked up why they have wiskers and ended up on his video, for cats you can throw their whole balance off. And people who bring their dogs to the groomer may not even realize the wiskers are being cut..like obviously I knew my dog had wiskers, but his fur is so long and thick I didn't even realize I was cutting through them until I felt the thicker hair in the scissors. I feel like I just knew it wasn't good.

My mom and sister have "her" dogs' whiskers trimmed whenever they're taken for grooming. It always seemed unnatural to me to see no or very stumpy whiskers on any animal that usually has longer, more natural-looking ones. It's like the whisker equivalent of a military flat top cut lol. Not to make light of it though, I would never cut whiskers, partially because it must be very painful. Sadly I don't get much say in how they are cared for since my younger sister bought and adopted them herself. If it were up to me I wouldn't be feeding them exclusively dry dog food either (nor would I have forced the little one to wear 2-4 dog diapers and a neck donut/cone 24/7), despite their claims that they buy "the healthiest dog food on the market." I'd get absolutely sick of mealtime if I had to eat that stuff every day. Sometimes I have to actively encourage and reward them for eating just to get them to eat their portions when I'm left home alone with the dogs for days in a row.

Once we payed for bath and groom for our dog, it was winter and we asked not to cut her fur too much, just a little bit on her paws and butt. She came out completely shaved, even the snout, whiskers and ears. Safe to say we were furious... I don't remember what we did but we we're so angry, we had to purchase a fake fur doggy coat for her cause she was trembling every night! What a horrible thing to do, she also rubbed her snout, I think the shaving of fur and whiskers caused her some irritation as well as the growing process... Poor thing

@yukijiconan9917
@yukijiconan9917 4 жыл бұрын
@@2007ghettonissanaltima declawing isn't actually only the nail they cut off (otherwise it would be trimming) To declaw a cat they cut the claw of at it's root, which is full of nerves and is a part of the body. Its like someone wants to cut of your nails, but to do so they have to cut off your fingertips. If that isn't abuse or cruel

You know, this was a very interesting, and, moreover, an enlightening video! Although I love all animals, and I like learning about them (Your little informative videos are great!), I have lived only with cats and know very little about dogs. (I didn't even know that dogs had whiskers! Although I've petted myriad dogs, I never noticed them before! What a dummy I was!) My question to you is: are these whiskers on dogs as sensitive as the whiskers on cats?

Do NOT trim dog's whiskers people, whiskers are *vital* mammalian trait, developing before mammals hair. Trimming them off would be cruelty but if the whiskers threaten dogs health, than it's best to take the pupper to vet

I only trim one of my dog’s whiskers as for some strange wit grows upwards towards his eye. But I only trim it a third of the way down. If it gets too long it really bothers him. I could and would never cut them off. And I think that anyone who would is just plain cruel.

Wish I could convince my mom and sister to stop having our 2 dogs' whiskers cut (one golden doodle - black hair with a white stripe down her chest/abdomen, really beautiful and sweet doggo - named Molly and one mini poodle - white hair, green eyes, pinkish nose, and has insanely intense separation anxiety and is just generally sensitive - named Romeo) every time they go to the groomer. Must be painful. I don't get much say in how they're cared for, they're my sister's, although we all live in the same house and I take almost equal care of them as my sister; maybe 60-40 or 65-35. She also makes the little one wear 2-4 dog diapers and a donut/cone 24/7. I'd think that can't be good for his back or neck, and I tried telling her that the diapers being on 24/7 might potentially only make the rash worse (worded it that way because she would get upset and feel like I'm attacking her if I said it bluntly) but she pushes back with some anger and insists the powder we put on the innermost diaper and the wipes we use use every time he's done going outside to pee are enough to fix it over time. Alas, he's been like this for at least 3 years now and all I can do to help him suffer less through it is to give him lots of love and attention when the others won't, and to *very* gently rub just my fingertips (no nails) across his inner thigh and belly area where the rash is. He goes crazy for it, giving me "the look" and then licking me all over in gratitude, during and after. The problem is, if we take the donut off he will immediately start stretching over and biting at anywhere on his perma-rash that he can reach endlessly, to the point of bleeding and beyond. Yes it's happened and that's why he's wearing the donut 24/7 (was a cone at first, then an over-sized massive and heavy donut and finally a more reasonably sized one), he also growls and even bites at us (to say back off, not to actually hurt us) for making him stop. Really showed me just how irritating that damn perma-rash is for him. It's just so sad and pitiful, and I can't help but think this could've been prevented if they never made him wear diapers in the first place. I always lightly stimulate the rash area whenever I can as I described before just to give him some relief. Back when I saw him biting at his rash, once he was inside and wearing his donut, I would see him sitting for 30 seconds or so and then suddenly recoil in pain at the waves of pain coming back from his rash-biting. I hate that feeling myself, having over-scratched an itchy area to the point where the itch is replaced by sharp pain and burning. So, I figure a good compromise is to just give him some (hopefully harmless) relief daily along with the regular doses of affection and attention and play.

Growing up my poor cocker spaniel had her whiskers cut off by a groomer. For about two weeks she would bump into walls at night. If it was loud enough to wake me I'd turn on the lamp by my bed and she would walk into my room jump on the bed and stay until light.
