For clarity: - ENTPs and ISTPs also make an amazing duo too, this video is just focussing on the ways in which they clash. - 'Grounded' should be 'grounding' - I'm currently sitting on the grammatical naughty step. - Also here's some shameless self promotion: instagram.com/nathanjglass/ ~ Nathan

sometimes the ISTP has the story and steps and is already doing it before the idea of an Intuitive. We thrive on practicality. We get into trouble for this because it's not what the Intuitive envisions. We step on ppls toes without realizing it sometimes.

Socrates (ENTP) was the teacher of Diogenes (ISTP), and Diogenes was said to be Socrates gone mad. Socrates showed people how they were wrong by working a person through conversation. Diogenes just showed people how they were wrong, hence the famous “behold, I bring you a man” interaction between Diogenes and Plato. Plato defined a man as a featherless biped. Diogenes plucked a chicken of all of its feathers and brought it to Plato (I think in front of his class) and said something like “behold, I bring you a man”. Honestly a really interesting way to look at their interactions with personality types. My mother is an INFJ, like Plato, while I’m an ISTP, like Diogenes, and their and our interactions line up quite accurately.
@arlettasloan6453
@arlettasloan6453 11 ай бұрын
It only says so much. By that, I mean I could see the situation being totally reversed if the ISTP was teaching and the ENTP had access to a chicken. Plato, however, was a twonk! I don't know if he was an INFJ twonk, but I'm sure he was a rambling goose of a twonk that almost made sense a few times, but narrowly avoided it with a lot of nonsense. Except, i do like the concept of platonic relationships. As a side note, don't go to Craig's List and advertise that you are looking for a friend under the section for platonic relationships. No one there seems to know what that means and they seem to be embroiled in a constant sex scandal.

I can't even look at half the stuff Plato wrote in the Republic without getting pissed off. Dude just goes against all my morals and values. Back to the subject, as an ENTP, my natural inclination is to prove someone wrong by talking it through with them, but upon failure, I would 100% bring them a plucked chicken or equivalent. One of my goals in life is to become a modern Diogenes though, so perhaps that influences it a bit. @@arlettasloan6453

I probably said it to you before and I will probably say it to you again: Plato was a twonk. No offense to your mother. I like the concept of platonic relationships, but that he thought they worked proves madness.

ISTPs and INFJs are an interesting combo since they have the same functions in a different order. Both of them greatly value the functions of Ti and Ni so I imagine that they have a natural understanding of each other and in some sense won't clash in those areas. I wonder how often the second slot Fe of the INFJs will help or hinder the ISTP and similarly with Se in ISTPs. Probably try to throw things at it from a distance, behind a door or something it couldn't get through. So I'm working with this ISTP and we're trying to figure out the best way to do this thing, none of it worked, but the deadline was a ways away and I'm like, "Man, I don't know. Let's sleep on it I guess and maybe the answer will come to us." His reaction was as if I had just said the silliest, stupidest, most unhelpful thing he ever heard. Funny, I've seen irritation like this between my two best friends. :p One is an istp and the other an enfp. Not too long ago the enfp tried to explain some weird cosmological/metaphysical (not sure yet) theory he had come up with. We went allong with it, at least to understand what he was intending, to come at the conclusion after more than an hour that the enfp was entertaining the thought because 'it would be funny if the world worked like that, but I don't believe it'. ISTP: "Stop thinking and being you and just do et and be like me" Absolutely is never going to win over an ENTP. And will absolutely create resentment, real fast. There's something to be said some ENTPs may need cooperation and support creating and sticking to an organisaiton system, especially on their own or for their own benefit. But the ISTP type I'm imagining that is basically instead attacking the core of their being with a "shape up or ship out" mentality, which is the opposite of support and will really, absolutely act extremely in the opposite effect and probably leave a need for therapy years in the future with far lower productivity than simply doing nothing.

Wow, you really surprised me! Your understanding of Ne PoLR in ISTPs is really on point. In typology communities it rarely happens, because "Ne PoLRs are narrow minded!". No, they aren't narrow minded, they just don't want to produce possibilities if it has no point. Their combination of Ti-Se-Ni makes them consider many alternatives, looking at one thing from different angles to form logically consistent systems, which can be applied to reality (cutting down unnecessary possibilities) and can be helpful in getting to the core of things. Ne doesn’t bother me as much as some other functions, but it’s exhausting. We can run parallel for a while and I can even play with them when it comes to ideas, but when we are trying to solve a problem I just want them to stop coming up with more options already. I don’t want a million different options, it feels like spinning my wheels when I just keep trying things and never finding one that works. A way to compromise and get some Ni in there is you find something that sort of works, but can be refined. The Ni pushes for refinement (or is in charge as its put it in the video), making a subgroup of options that narrows it down a bit, but the Ne dom can still come up with options. Then narrow it down a little bit more. They’ll eventually see it as a challenge and start coming up with more outside of the box things but that’s when you throw a squeaky toy across the room and ask them where it went and finish the job while they are asking themselves “what squeaky toy?!”

My ISTP analysis basically is telling the summary of the vid as: Nathan: ISTP just adjust to the ENTP and appreciate their natural habitat of playing with anything they come across. (Argue, devil's advocate, intellectual exploration, even in the most probable tendency of ENTPs being blind with grounded reality and being let off the hook by society because of hey, social contract, nothing personal) And for you ENTP don't worry it's just ISTP that needs adjustment, you're good. Anyways, you two are good for each other as a team. Just adjust ISTP. Or in 6 words, "Don't worry ENTP, its ISTP." Edit: After a few minutes of Adjusting my Mindset(Essentially becoming an Artificial EN-TP, I finally understood their E (EXPLORATION) and N (NATURAL) meaning NATURAL EXPLORATION against my I (INVESTIGATION) and S (SCIENTIFIC) TECHNICAL PERSPECTIVE in life. Yup that was TP. I made my own typology to fully understand MBTI. Here it is: E- EXPLORATION (Directed/influenced through outward forces) I- INVESTIGATION (Directed/indfluenced through inward forces) N- NATURAL (Led by NATURAL functions subconscious or even unconscious neural connections governed by brain) S- SCIENTIFIC (Led by SCIENTIFIC functions i.e observations through 5 senses and can be evidence of reality and is thoroughly conscious) T- TECHNICAL (Governed by TECHNICALITIES, like rules, conduct, principles, and systems that create direction) F- FACTUAL (Governed by FACTS, that everyone can openly agree towards like behavior, culture, social roles, and morality and values) P- PERSPECTIVES (Seeing/Experiencing the world through the spectrum of PERSPECTIVES that it can offer, like different mindsets and different point of views of varied personalities) J- JUSTICES (Seeing/Experiencing the world through the arrangement of JUSTICES that it can make, like structures of welfare preexistingly functional and the systems of learning available) Feel free to contribute in either expounding or criticizing the work. And thank you Nathan for the insight as always.

Thank you for another great video Nathan/Luann! It is nice to have someone remember to buy milk before the carton is empty... I won't lie ahah. (Ne yay....!) In a relationship, it's best to capitalize on each individual's strength... Naturally, one partner will end up "leading" : but I see it more as gentle stirring of a boat on pleasant waters.... and well.. when it's a stormy sea it's an all hands on deck kind of situation anyway! I believe we all have "default" roles. But that doesn't mean that individuals cannot raise to the occasion. Roles =/= power that's for sure.

[TL;DR: This uneven relationship dynamic is uneasy for the ISTP, thus building tension. Meanwhile, the ENTP will only realise it when it's too late, AKA when the ISTP feels "attacked" on it's lack of (Ne) one too many times and explodes. ISTP will consider the ENTP an asshole, while the ENTP wont get it, and find the ISTP childish, stubborn and misguided.] ------------------------- Correct me if I'm wrong - you never fully addressed the natural (almost unconscious) "Power dynamic" created from the "fear" and "uneasiness" that comes with having our PoLR (potentially) exposed in this specific "inter-typer relationship" (AKA the *Supervision relationship from Socionics) *Any of the 16 types is (unknowingly) the "Supervisor" of a different type and (feels) "Supervised" by another one. As an example that expands on the personality types of this video: (From Supervisor> to Supervised) ENTP>ISTP>ESFP>INFP>ENTP>... When someone enters a room and you feel warry AF - like the only "safe course of action" is avoidance or minimal contact.. that's probably your "Supervisor" Your Supervisor doesn't know (or would understand) why you feel this way. And if you bring this up in conversation; it usually just deepens your "awkward position". Conversely when it's YOU who's the Supervisor; you mostly just go through your life without realising anything - Until you try one too many times to interact with your Supervisee using your Auxiliary function (which is this person's painful PoLR) Your Supervisee will most likely come off as childish, stubborn or misguided from your POV. This relationship can work - but it's very mentaly draining.

I'm an ISTP and I think the issues here are yes, ENTP exploding with theoretical Ne which we don't resonate with, AND ENTP not VALUING the ISTP because of ENTP's Fi polar/trickster - that causes the ISTP to hate the ENTP because their inferior function Fe isn't being fulfilled and it causes our demon side to come out. We are thinkers who don't mind some intellectual play at all, but it needs to come from someone who has the capacity to value us.

After him attacking me a few times, I felt annoyed and I stupid-zoned him for a few months. We’re friends again, but I don’t want to talk to him on any consistent basis. Is it possible for dominant Ti to be underdeveloped? I know I’ve always used it; but I also used to be very unhealthy, spent a lot of time in my lower functions. An ESTJ from college commented to me “you’re different, you think more now.” I think I’m just no longer afraid to express my thoughts, and I have confidence, and the ideas I’ve thought about growing up now have strong opinions attached to them. Could you make a video about relationship problems between the types? I am an INTP and it turned out that my girlfriend (5 weeks together) is an ESFJ. Do I have to say more? Please help - I´m living in hell. After two weeks I thought she had a histrionic personality disorder but now I know that she is just an ESFJ (sometimes tends to be ESFP). What tricked me at the beginning was her seemingly rational side. She is a physician - my physician. And when I talk medicine with her it´s a dream come true. She is quick, knowledgeable and witty. But everything that has to do with feelings and our relationship is so crazy that I cannot even describe it. It´s textbook pathological. We now have rules for everything like how many minutes I "have" to cuddle her, how often I have to spend the night at her place (7 days per week), what happens when I don´t phone her in case of temporal separation etc. She needs constant reassurance that I love her and wants to control every minute and emotion of my life/me. It´s a constant power struggle, manipulation, drama, outbursts etc. Btw, she calls my cruel, dominant, egotistical, unable to love and so on. But she doesn´t want to leave me. She weaponizes emotions.

If you really are an INTP call her out on her one-sided covert contracts of your Ti. Look into her Fe, and tell her that the 'contract' is not all there is to a relationship with an INTP. 7 out of 7 days is dumb enough. At this stage, she might be ingratiating her Ti Inferior more than even looking into your Fe, and complimenting you on it, but exploiting your warmth more. You might get her at this vulnerability, call out her codependency, and if things don't really change, trying getting help from an INFJ or ENFJ to tell her off. Or else, an ENTP or INFP. Something should work out, at the very least.

You need to leave because she is firmly convinced she is right always because she is so caring. Then she will turn your friends and family against you and she will be believed . But you are stuck there too weak eating the lotus and you are being swallowed whole. Get out leave physically while you can. Her fe means she has no sense of self reflection you can try Ti to reason with her but if her past history is bad including upbringing she will replicate that as it is ‘traditional’

PS: Her type is more suited to ISTP. Yours is related to the Ethos queen, ENFJ, who is somehow more sensible when it comes to feelings and taking charge. I forgot to analyse the two middle functions. You guys - ESFJ and INTP - ain't compatible by far, even if an ENFJ might sound intimidating to you. Your Si-child only makes you more suited to an Se-child. Unless you prefer less of a balance, with the ENTJ. Either way, we ENTJs, and them ENFJs are usually empirical in deriving our rationale or feelings, but not really remembering the whole process to our conclusions, but you need an ENFJ to be a parent to someone who feels, and it's more of a social butterfly in a sense, than some ESFJ telling you to be self-aware, and to express your emotions. Your Si does not really make you that inclined to those who want you to change the way you express your humor and the like, to suit feelings. That's dangerous. That's the basic, insofar as I know it. If you wanna explore some ENFJ, I unfortunately have only one thing to recommend - the Japanese artist, ASCA. Expect some drama, but not really a towering presence expecting you to have feelings and express them for feelings, and not really considering your feelings in your hobbies, like games, perhaps, that much. Either way, her Si-Parent works on INTP and ISTP. Based on Fe as Dominant, instead of Ne, she's not really into feeling folks are kind intuitively, but knowing that someone exhibiting emotions is something that 'should' be common. (pardon the earlier mistake with taking it as Se-parent. Got onto her Fe more.) She's suited for the ISTP, who is the tower of common sense. Of course, they'll balance out common sense and self-awareness, if it works for them. You can try balancing out your calculations and systems with self-awareness lite.

I can be as skeptical and knowleagable as an intp but never think and learn like them, and have their reliable and formidable logical structure mechanism and rationality. I can be as observant and schemy as an intj, but i can never be as self trusting, quick and see as much as they do. I feel like my brain has different consciences, sculpted by my self manipulation and will which I cant control from growing stronger and larger yet more vulnerable and careless. It's saddening to think that even at the limit of my brain, I am still limited by it and i cant even create a tie between me and my foes no matter how much i want to win and how much i want to not fail at even the very minuscule of problems.

ISTP with ENTP bestfriend, surprisingly we rarely clash, it's usually us giving opinions and adding onto each other's pov like making a puzzle til it's complete, and in the end we end up aggreeing with each other

ISTP’s and ENTP’s get along well using introverted thinking and they both enjoy structure and building and their opposite types are very simalar in their names and other factors that can be well considered to new MBTI and old MBTI enthusiasts

I am ENTP and my dad is an ISTP, and we never debate together. We do talk, but we don't really discuss. Even if we argue, it's short and direct. He doesn't enjoy talking. Most of our communication probably consists of a few repeated phrases, funny noises, laughter, and telepathic glances. My dad can't see the point of debates or lengthy discussions, and too much talking annoys him, so I usually try to debate and discuss with others when he isn't around. We don't always understand one another (where do hardworking ISTPs get all that drive and energy?), but we get along just fine. :)

Socionics, at least Russian variant, bring another mining for the blind function. Socionics speak a lot about intertype dualism, concept of full matching pairs where the strongest functions of one type have a the best connection and effect on the blind function of the other. In socionics there are 8 functions for every type for ex. the ENFJ would have extr. feeling intr. intuition extr. logic intr. sensing intr. logic extr. sensing intr. feeling extr. intuition. And so 4th function is called the pain spot which brings conflict between conflicting type (for ENFJ ex. the conflicter would be an ISTP cause there primary funct is intr. sensing in Rus. Socionics) and so on you can probably translate some rus. sites of socionics for some kind of understanding. Speeking of the video, ENTP is called a half-dual for ISTP as they both compliment each other's blind spots withought hurting pain spots. There is much more behind half duals and duals relationships then those two function relating but I just got to say that there is huge difference in ways people around the world understand Jung's theory of personality types and I'm quite confused by this fact. I still try to dig into both sides of view but I'm spotting myself on that I can't believe in any of them. With love from Russia. INTJ.

Hmm, I didn't know there was a Russian variant. With regards to the blind spot comment, I find I get along very well with them for this reason, they're no nonsense, not always the brightest or most talkative, but theyre very sharp, skillful and disciplined people who still know how to have a good time, so there are just the right amount of opposites like puzzle piece, but like a puzzle they can still be cohesive when put together . -entp

:o I really do wake up every day with a completely clean slate. It's like someone resets my brain when I sleep. I've been saying this my entire life and nobody gets it. Ok, I'm definitely an ENTP. Or would you say that this happens to some other types as well?

As an INTJ, who very recently had to do our patented Door 🚪 Slam on an ENTP...I can say what broke the camel’s 🐪 back for me was this person wasn’t really ready to deal with a personality type that doesn’t *require or need* their perspective on my thoughts. Especially just for the sake of being contrarian 😒 ENTPs want people to ‘indulge’ them while they spin in cognitive/theoretical circles, they need the world to bounce their ideas 💡 off of. The arguing about stuff they don’t actually believe in is a *Massive* waste of an INTJ’s time (and we all know INTJs time is our most prized possession). INTJs operate inward with understanding and because we are lead Ni we don’t need the world’s opinions in order to come to a universal understanding about a topic. That coupled with my Te of wanting to come to conclusions that make sense and are actionable and my Fi value of my time as a resource that I can’t get back going in theoretical circles for the sake of it...🚪 This isn’t to say ENTPs aren’t cool people with lots of interesting viewpoints, but I think it just comes down to whether or not they’re dealing with a type that can tolerate their need to do this for long stretches of the relationship.

Well you know what as an ENTP I can confirm that I can’t tolerate y’all either, INTJ’s are a ginormous pain in the ass to atleast me, same with ISTP. Y’all are hella intolerant of the way our brain works and I can tell it’s second nature to just automatically assume ENTP’s are completely useless. Typical too critical and rudely judgemental INTJ. 👍

idk why it's a stereotype or not , but they say ISTP are too unsentitive , or they treat others as stupid" , I actually treat other people feelings as in " logically will this offend people, and i treat people differently based on there sensitivness that i assume i saw using the S , but within limits of logic , if it's oversensitivness it drains me and i tell it straight or avoid people" and even if people are wrong, i don't pull the stupid card in my brain because i find that card in the feeling side aka if thinking that someone is stupid is a F rather than a T function . but i would try to make them see the "right" pov as much as i can and then go like "that's pointless to discuss" if i feel like it's not going anywhere ,aka impatience when people just fails to see thing due to their feelings , i say my point in a sum lt them be without wasting any energy on "oh they are stupid , or cant they not use their brain" i think it's an F reaction rather then the claims of it being a T .That's my pov as an ISTP
