@som31ne574 жыл бұрын
It is a tricky one indeed, our need to express and convey information as accurate as possible can come off very J-like. But is has all to do with the fact that context is emperor in INTP land, and if people don't understand the premises ( context) the way you want they start from a different context and the end result of their reasoning can also differ from yours. It's always stressful, since if they start from a wrong context they might miss the point you are trying to make. Hmm interesting I just thought . . Maybe it comes from our inferior function? The need to help others (understand) ? . . Enough rattling

I thought I was INTP for the longest time, but actually I was ISTP and neglecting my Se. I took a hard look at what things made me feel the most satisfied, and I realized that endless theorizing just made me feel trapped in my own head and unable to properly exist, while creating tangible things in the world (drawing, calligraphy, cooking, etc.) with increasingly developed skill is something I could do the rest of my life and not feel like it was a waste. I can hang around for theories and abstract philosophical debates, but once it gets off the topic I came there for, I lose patience pretty quickly and just start nodding along instead of engaging. Eventually, I get into "So what?" territory. I've also always been known as a direct and literal type of person who doesn't take bullshit, and that includes some INTP bullshit as well. But starting and abandoning projects quickly is something both types do a lot, and the Ti-Fe conflict is also the same. Just those two things account for the majority of relatable IxTP memes, honestly, and it probably throws a lot of people off. But are the projects being abandoned because there's just too many of them, and a new one is always going to come along (Ne), or is it because the projects quickly become unstimulating and kind of pointless (Se)? It's a hard question. Looking at a type's weak spots is always going to be easier than looking at their strengths if you're not sure.

I enjoy motorcycles, skateboarding, playing guitar, but I’m bad at improvising and I need to take my time when making decisions to ensure that I make the right one. I struggle with my identity because I can’t really decipher my emotions effectively, I just try to look into my past and figure out who I am based on decisions I’ve made or how I have behaved. I’ve dealt with social anxiety my entire life, even struggling to be myself around family members and close friends because I don’t know how to be myself essentially. I'm mainly ISTP but sometimes I feel like INTP and INTJ too. I love learning theories and it would be a lot better if those theories are applied to the real world. It's really fun testing those theories immediately if I have the opportunity. But if I don't have access to a manual or a reading material that contains the instructions or overall design, tinkering is always fine by me. I am also confident with my knowledge and I can be intuitive too despite my MBTI says I'm an S. I guess that's my 58% observant 42% intuitive talking. Usually, when I was in school, I don't always pay attention to the instructors and just solve the written problems as they go. Of course, the instructor will also have to demonstrate how to solve those problems and by that, it'll just verify whether the work I've done secretly is correct or not. I am 51% prospecting and 49% judging. Schedules don't really bother me really much and I'm pretty much cool with it and I can attain perfect attendance. I can be very spontaneous when I do feel like it. Also, I am fascinated with statistics. Though, I use it to solve problems which somewhat confirms my ISTP type. I also feel that that ISTP is pushing the idea that I am action-oriented in terms of concreteness. But actually, I can use concreteness and abstractness to solve problems. And also seeing the puzzle you showed in the video, I love solving riddles and puzzles in my free time. I felt I was the only one who is on to those. Thank God there’s the internet where I can just solve puzzles with strangers and discussing various ways of solving those problems. I also get that I’m too calculating a lot which people think I’m doing unnecessary work. I guess that is my tinge of INTJ. For some reason, when all the tasks are finished there’s a lot of time to do something geeky or nerdy. Perhaps collecting data from an idle game I’m playing and predicting when certain characters reach a level; predicting how much resources I could accumulate in that point of time - and with these data, it is shared to a fandom wiki or discord server for nerds to enjoy. I guess the game good as it is tagged ‘strategy game’ then. LOL.

I try to get as much information on things as I can and leave my options open for as long as possible, though I do make spontaneous decisions if I feel like I know enough. 5:54 it's usually a mixture of both for me I can make quick decisions but I'll second guess them pretty often and sometimes I completely change my course of action while executing it, or I'll think about it for way too long without actually doing anything I'm pretty quick to change my opinion on things too There have been times where I have gone down wikipedia rabbit holes for no reason other than curiosity 😂 I really enjoy philosophy because it gives you alternate ways of thinking Other than these the points were spot on as usual! Still found the puzzles fun to solve: 1. The cover can fit the manhole in any orientation 2. It's daytime

As an INFP I'm more like the ISTP in the sense I have more attention to detail but struggle with taking as much action as an INTP. This is why I'm better at leading someone who takes the action and I give them a wider vision. Then I break the vision down into goals and tactics for them to put all of their energy into. Under Human Design I'm a projector too who are classed as non-energy types which means we have less energy than most people on the planet. We are often seen as lazy because it looks like we take too many breaks and procrastinate but that's part of our genius. When we're "procrastinating" we're actually refueling ourselves with content to inspire us. Even though we do less, we can achieve a lot over time. Have you looked into Human Design yet? 😃

I have a book full of other half-developed ideas that came about in the same way. I am a disappointment to myself. Ugh this is killing me. Historically (from like 18-24 or so) I was always scoring as INTP. Since some time around 25-26 I’m pretty consistently ISTP. I really don’t know what the hell I am. Abstract thinking can be cool and stimulating, but I question whether I’m INTP because my tolerance for frustration from abstract things and puzzles is low. I have ADHD and chronic depression and don’t know how much of my frustration and intolerance stems from those things or because I’m just not an INTP. I don’t have a nonstop flurry of ideas, but I do think of things here and there and I do have the typical ADHD issue of wanting to do something novel, maybe starting it and then falling off shortly thereafter when my mood changes or I hit a wall or it loses its luster. Sometimes I stick longer. Then on the ISTP front I read so much about them being all hands on, liking to make shit, take shit apart, be mechanics and shit. I do have some level of interest in understanding how things work but I’m not a hands on tinkerer really. The only thing in my life that kinda fits the bill is that I’m an IT/help desk/computer building gamer type. I’m very much not an action oriented type. I struggle with laziness and the aforementioned ADHD/depression. I like reading about history and science. I write well and enjoy debating (online where I can better formulate my thoughts and fact check myself and others) those things as well as other things I’m interested in or care about like games, some movies, religion and politics. My answers to the puzzles at 1:45 1. Having round manholes is sufficient in saving resources as a square manhole would require more resources than a round manhole. In a way, it's literally cutting corners. 2. There is no such 'true black' clothing. The dye used in most of the clothing stated is not pure black and can still reflect light. Not only that, the exposed skin of the man that hasn't been covered up would reflect the light.
@Trooman2011 ай бұрын
I have got a better solution for no. 2 The driver saw the man because it was daytime. It doesn't matter if you're wearing black and surrounded by everything black, if the sky is bright it will give you a stark contrast to the environment. Conversely, it will make you even more distinct. So, yeah there you go.

The main advantage of a round manhole cover is that it can't be pushed through the opening to fall onto the person going down it into a sewer or similar. A square manhole cover could easily be manipulated into an orientation to fall down a square hole and injure someone (I had delete and retype my answer after realising it was incorrect). Square covers are better for accessing infrastructure immediately below the road where you don't need to climb down a ladder. We construct most things as squares and rectangles. Even cylindrical pipes that run horizontally will probably follow rectangular paths when viewed from above. As for spotting the man dressed in black (possibly approaching a manhole) is that in daylight they will stand out against the sky, and their eyes will also have white areas that will be visible. Also, black here is probably quite a fuzzy term that probably includes quite a lot of dark grey (and possibly, where non-priest socks are concerned very...very dark blue). These will have quite good contrast in daylight. It's probably good for the driver that the pedestrian was there, considering someone forgot to cordon off the open manhole, which is probably even less visible that a man dressed in all black. I just hope that after avoiding being run over, they also saw the open manhole and didn't fall down it.
@martineyles Жыл бұрын
In case you're wondering, I initially argued that the round manhole is easier to reseat, not requiring rotation. A nice side benefit. The manhole cover shouldn't be reseated while there is someone down there. Instead, the area around the open manhole should be cordoned off. They normally have those four sided red and white barriers to do that. I really should get some dinner rather than typing long comments to random youtube videos that I've paused part way along.

Love the video, and about what you said... One thing I observe a lot (being an ISTP) is that we're based on pure utilitarianism. Is it useful? No? Forget it. Is it useful, but just next year? FORGET IT. We'll do what is most important NOW, and then we will think about the other stuff. And that is in ALL aspect of our lives: love, friendship, work, creating/processing ideas, putting ideas on the real world, and especially, action. We won't leave our couch for some shit that it won't serve for anything than... a maybe hahahaha
@amandatavares47413 жыл бұрын
BUT if we do leave the couch... Is also an action oriented, utilitarianism oriented: we don't like to waste our time on futile stuff, and therefore we like things well done or not done at all. In my country we have a saying: "the lazy one do it two times", but ISTP are the lazy ones who just do it one, for good, so that doesn't bothers us anymore (aaaand, so we could go back to our chouch :P)

My answers to the puzzles: Question 1- Man hole covers are round probably so that they can go back in place no matter how they are oriented. This would be especially important if, say, a car drove over it and dislodged the lid. If it were square, for example, it would be very unlikely to ever go back in place without an actual person performing the act. A round lid is incredibly more likely to work its way back in place. All that to say, I have lifted manhole lids and they are a bitch to dislodge and pick up, so this scenario seems unlikely in real life. Most importantly, but more boring, round can’t fall into the whole. Question 2- It’s daytime lol

INTP here- I appreciate how you thoroughly but concisely you communicate complex and original ideas. I paused at the riddles and I’m here to flex (yup, you called it). 1. (Quick, shallow answer) corners can be hazardous. Also, the circle is more efficient in terms of surface area (though I’d have to research to determine if this is a valid reason). 2. It was daytime. Ez clap😎 Rather than confirming my type (though that took a while) I’m here to understand how “Sensing” people operate. All the S people I know are morbidly fascinating- it’s like watching animal planet. I haven’t met an “S” who is even remotely interested in the hows/whys of the world. Like, if you ask them what they think of a movie, they’ll say “it was good.” If you asked them why they liked it, they’ll shrug. If you ask them a more open-ended question, like “tell me about this movie” they’ll give you a plot summary. Sometimes they might ask me the same question, but it’s more because they’re reciprocating (imo they approach relationships as surface-level transactions) not because they’re interested in what I actually think. Even if they make a sincere effort to understand the typical in-depth INTP response, their eyes glaze over and they just… can’t get it. They can be genuinely sweet, caring, generous people, but conversations are a HUGE drag. This is as true for “S” people with high IQ (3 “S” people I know are high-earning IT workers. Their careers demand complex critical thinking. Yet, they give off head-empty NPC vibes when it comes to anything abstract or speculative. But HOW is this possible? WHY are they like this???) The lack of understanding is a two-way street: I can NOT comprehend how someone can live like that. The difference is, I want to understand what makes them tick (and I’ll fly to the moon and back to find the answer) while they’re content to let it be. Tl;dr (but if an INTP is reading this, you probably didn’t skip to the end 😉) I’m watching this video, not to confirm I’m an INTP, but because ISTP isolates the variable I’m trying to study. Just finished the video and it did help. The following is pure speculation at this point. The ideas below need to be tested / refined, but they may be worth sharing anyway. Perhaps the “S” reduces (or can even eliminate) the gap between thought and action. Sensing types do whatever works in the moment and deal with the fallout later. So S operates in the present; they’re mostly concerned with the here and now. Ns can operate in the past/present/multiple possible futures. It seems “S”s and “N”s experience time (which is arguably THE most important aspect to our experience of life/reality) in fundamentally different ways. I don’t think I’m capable of fully appreciating the moment the way “S”s are; they may be equally incapable of being physically present and mentally gone (the default for most INs). I wonder if they feel lonely sharing space with someone totally absent, just like I feel lonely when they can’t seem to hear me, no matter how much I try to meet them at their level. Basically- ISTP: get The Thing done (the action hero example was perfect and ngl this is a respectable attitude) INTP: think about ALL the different ways to do The Thing, evaluate each option, and find the ONE that works (like Dr. Strange with the time stone in End Game). Present your idea to a (usually disinterested/dismissive) audience. Shrug and retreat to your room (for good this time. Seriously, why bother??) IMO on paper, ISTP > INTP because at least they’re out there getting stuff done 🤷🏽♀️

Why i can switch between them? sometimes i'm action oriented and sometimes i'm in a deep Though questioning my self before action?

I've been typed ITP by someone, obviously typed Ti-Fe axis, but unsure about my Ne-Si and Se-Ni. And here we are, finding my type, ISTP or INTP (Enneagram 4 btw) I mean, I'm not action oriented but who knows I might have been an ISTP who's been suppressed from doing such, maybe? Or INTP by default, being indecisive with the use of Ne to see what could go wrong. Then again, I might be INFP 4w5, but my friends says I emit so much energy of Ti dom than Fi dom. What am I? :( I lean more towards INTP for now. I guess I'll have to rewatch the vid many times until I know.

1:45 "Why is it better to have round manhole covers than square ones?" Answer from INTP-me: Because a square cover may be lifted on-edge (90-degrees); then, rotated on a vertical axis to a position over the manhole; and, dropped inside it! "A man is wearing black: shoes; socks; pants; jumper; and balaclava. He is walking down a black street with all the street lamps off. A black car is coming towards him, with its lights off; but, somehow manages to stop in time." How did the driver see the man? Answer: The driver missed him: what's the problem!

Hmmmmm I always get typed as INTP but I think I dont fit it. Anyone have any advice? I think I get energy from being alone and being with a few people, so I could easily be an ENTP. I do have the debating part of an ENTP in me. As for the intuitive part, idk what counts as an intriguing thought, that's way too subjective. I dont believe things just because I feel bad, so I suppose I do categorize as a T. As for the perceiving part, I like to believe I'm actively trying to try to achieve my goals. I think people categorized with P are supposed to be ok with not trying. So I could be INTP ENTP INTJ ENTJ ISTP ESTP ISTJ ESTJ

Nate, I’m specifically asking you about this because I believe you’re a INTP. I’m struggling with figuring out my personality type. I’m confused between INTJ, INFJ, ISTJ, INTP. Initially, I was confused between INTJ and INTP because cognitively, I seem to fit INTJ, but because of Ti, I had some doubts. In addition, I am much like the stereotypical INTP. In pursuit of finding out who I am, I decided to analyze the types that have Ni and Ti as their main functions. I eventually found out that I may be either an ISTP or an INFJ. The problem is, I lack Se for ISTP and Fe for INFJ. I also have doubts about me being an INTJ, INTP, or INFJ, simply because these are rare types that tend to be intelligent and I don’t consider myself to be either special or intelligent. Can you help me?

Brilliant!! 🖤 So, do you think an INTP and ISTP with fairly balanced iNtuition and Sensory functions (not compared to each other, but within their individual spectrum - ie: fairly balanced between Ni vs Ne, and same for Si vs Se) seem especially similar? And presumably, if one or the other of them were a jumper type, it would make that determination between the two types that much more challenging, I’m guessing? Mostly I’m just wondering if my question is inherently flawed/missing something obvious.
@lovewho4 жыл бұрын
Yes I definitely think so, especially the OP types as you mentioned. Lead sleep ISTPs are going to come across a lot like INTPs in the standard cognitive functions since they'd be IxxP and NT ~ Nathan
@hannahmathilda71014 жыл бұрын
Also...both jumper ITPs can seem like either an INTJ or and ISTJ from what I have observed.
@CosmicDeath4 жыл бұрын
@Hannah Mathilda that’s interesting! I wouldn’t have guessed that at all, what types of observations have come across this way? My surprise at this is mainly based on INTP and ISTP both leading with Ti (introverted thinking). Whereas INTJ leads with Ni (introverted intuition) and ISTJ leads with Si (introverted sensing), with neither having Fe or Ti. If anything I would have guessed them quite dissimilar- but then again, maybe the combination of functions and their “weight” manifest in traits that appear in everyday life as being similar to ITPs?

Note that out of what I had always been doing: I won in a beauty pageant, I won in a story telling contest, I had won in Ma y arguments, mastered many kinds of spells, mastered self-defense to make sure no one makes fun of me again, I always make sure to look and act like my hottest self beauty and brains all the way and power!
