Dark forest theory in practice, but on bigger and more terrifying scale... There's no escape. No chance for run... Only slow quiet walk to not get attention of the beast and buy the time for next generations to do the same and repit the cycle... @@tufelhunden5795Actually, you're probably just early. Even though they're older by far, the O, A, B, and F Class Stars are also hotter with much more radiation, so if you assume a few baselines for planets to develop Life ( namely, a non-molten surface and reasonably insane levels of radiation) then the planets around those stars likely were reaching "Habitability" (and I use that word loosely) at around the same time as Earth and the other G Types. K and M Type Stars may have a bit of a head start on us, but probably not to much, and given that FTL travel may ACTUALLY be Science Fiction and the fact that the Universal Speed limit is INCREDIBLY slow compared to the distances, then the chances that they either aren't more advanced than us, on par with us, or *slightly* more advanced than us and nothing has crossed the void yet.

Of course, the dark forest is kinda silly, like what's the point of crossing the vastness of space between the stars, to wage war or destroy. It's a waste of resources. In this story it's even more insane, cause the time scale and the distances of galaxies. For the evolution part, I mean, that's also a very impractical set up, vs just setting up colonies normally, leaving them unprepared and ignorant of what ever threat is coming for them. If it ever does.

This is by far the best HFY story I've heard in a while. Very interested in it, very well written. I also love that you are constructing a cannon with continuity. This is amazing, and I really want more of this if possible. Many other stories have some passing interest, but so much of it is poorly written/vetted AI slop. I don't mind the use of a bit of AI to be clear, but it needs that human intent(especially at this point) to maintain coherence and value. Not to mention, the context window of most AI used today for such things is still abysmal. I love this futurist stuff though, and even exploring real theories like the dark forest, and the interwoven implications of all this stuff, it's amazing! I would honestly love a behind the scenes or vlog of the team behind it too as you seem to be uniquely talented in this space, creating this continuity(or continuities? I've noticed you have a few videos that tie together, and they often seem to have much better writing than the one offs)

40 standard years was 160 Sol years. So... When J said that the ship would take 2 years to get to the station what he meant was 8 sol years. However, it would be more because the ship would need to decelerate and change directions to match the trajectory of the station orbiting in its own star system. I'm thinking this ship is an ark. If a ship leaves our system and tries to intercept the trajectory of the nearest star system to us (Alpha Centauri), the ship would need to accelerate at a max of 2 G's in order not to harm any living beings aboard to the halfway point then decelerate down at 2 G's. It will take approximately 70,000 years to get to the star system using our current technology. In order for more meaningful travel, we need to develop inertia dampeners (so we won't feel the G's from acceleration or deceleration) and faster than light speeds as the nearest star is over 4 lightyears away from us. So, myeah, to a post FTL people, an ark from Earth would be moving painstakingly slow. And it would have to be an Ark since there'd be more than 2 thousand generations between launching the ship and finally reaching Alpha Centauri.
@davidwebb44512 ай бұрын
It would take about a year at a constant 1g acceleration to reach fairly close to light speed and you would then have covered about half a light year. So if you did that and then cruised for a while before decelerating at 1g you would reach Alpha Centauri in about 5 or 6 years as seen from Earth (with it being less from the traveller's perspective due to relativistic effects). Of course the problem is what fuel you could possibly use to maintain a continuous 1g acceleration for a year (and later a continuous 1g deceleration for a year). Plus of course what protection you would need to stop your ship being destroyed by just hitting dust or larger rocks whilst travelling close to light speed.

why not use all the roster of VAs you guys have to have distinct voices in the stories? i bet each of you guys can do a couple different voices between the 3 or 4 of you many characters can be voice in a story, with one as a narrator. if the voices are consistent, it's easier to keep track of who's talking and what's going on, even across multiple episodes and most importantly dialogue flows better because you have two different VAs talking to each other instead of just one doing all voices. I bet this adjustment can improve a lot, the fact alone that you use real people makes the listening a 1000 times better than any AI reader so far since they break immersion. Over the past 6 months i've seen a lot of improvements in the narration and stories, you're on a great trajectory. Create your own stories and characters and universes and you have your own unique thing since those ai readers copy all the same stories and prompts. Best of luck guys, keep it up!

@@StarboundHFY Also, now that i think about it, here's an idea for the future: if you get to the point of like 1M+ where you have a good budget from revenue, it gets easy to use VAs, hire sound engineer for soundtrack and effects, a 3D artist or two for visuals and with the writers make your own small story pilots. Since a lot of written description becomes visual, videos are much shorter but you can pack much more punch than just narration. If you want a masterclass in visual storytelling you must watch Astartes by Syama Pedersen. Would be cool to see well written short sci-fi stories be put into a 5-6 min. video that is effectively a pilot for a potential series. Who knows where that can go
