Anybody else feeling weird this holiday season? Feeling lots of emotions, finding joy, creating new traditions and realizing that even then...you will STILL f$%#@ it up!

Your dad saying he’s changed 😂 but yeah I totally feel you on Christmas resentment/trauma growing up. 😢 My mom didn’t believe in gifts (for numerous reasons - I didn’t “need it”, so I’m not “spoiled”, etc) and I only got to keep 1 out of the pile (given to me from other family members, not her). Then I’ll go back to school and hear all my peers talking about their Christmas presents. There’s so many bad memories associated with the holidays for me, yet I find myself looking forward to it every year regardless. So now as an adult I always get myself 1 big gift for Christmas/birthday. Last year I randomly asked my dad for a tree (he always got real ones) and we went to Home Depot and he got me one because he knew how much I loved them and found it nostalgic. He still kept all my childhood/homemade ornaments. 🥺 I’m glad your kids are experiencing good memories with you! You’re a great mom! ❤

I believe as long as you, the parent, filled these traditions with love & excitement, they'll remember it positively. You said your parents dreaded all the holiday stuff you asked for & that's probably why you might have a negative emotion come up. As an Asian American, we never did the whole American Christmas. It was a slight blend of a holiday meal but Asian. However, the family had a huge gathering and we all cook and ate together. We exchanged gifts with or without a tree. The holidays was meant to spend happy times with family. Every family should have their own traditions that is unique to their family. I think your daughters will remember their youth fondly because of how much love you have for them and the efforts you put into caring for them.

🫶🏼 I love your authentic self, speaking from the heart and your experience through tough times. It amazes me how you have gone through such traumatic events and are navigating through life with such grace. I can also relate not feeling like you fit in with what society tells you because I moved from Europe to the states and felt like everyone around me had everything, and I never had anything ie the Christmas events and presents and traditions. But I’m sure you can also relate that it’s more important to feel the love that your parents gave you and the values that they had instilled in you. I’m a mama and have a baby about to pop and I want to make sure I give those things to my kids rather than the monetary items (gifts and presents) that will never be remembered as they grow older. But don’t get me wrong, I have the same mentality that I want to spoil my kids with the things I didn’t receive. Such a hard balance! Loving these videos, they are inspiring and real and I would love to see more behind the scenes of your crazy travel life while maintaining your mom duties. How do you balance?! 🤍

I can resonate with the holidays feeling weird. Growing up, the holidays were a reminder of what we didn't have as compared to others. They were financially stressful times, often involving my dad being unemployed. My mom would try her best at making the holidays special. But it did leave me with some type of void. Now, as an adult, I try to take care of that inner child and provide experiences I may have not had growing up and make the holiday season extra special for myself.

I think your girls would appreciate these videos. There comes a point in anyone’s life where they start to see their parents as actual people. Or when kids reach the age where their parents had them, it gives them a different perspective on who their parents are. So for them to be able to see your thoughts especially when you really thought about how this might affect them…they would understand. You express yourself truly so I hope this touches them.

As a business woman yourself, I'm sure you can see how Retailers use this time of year to over market their product. Gifting others materialistic worth is rather pathetic. Keep the connection to those you love year-round. A special gift that speaks directly to them, and the sporadic fun it brings, is really something that happens year-round. Good Going Mom!

I totally get the out of place feeling growing up as a POC. I’m Muslim so the holidays were always a fun time at school but we didn’t have that at home. It’s hard to feel festive during our own holidays because they’re not nationally recognized so you don’t have the time off or the fun decor. I hope to change that for my kids ❤🫶🏻 also I’d love to see more behind the scenes at Phlur, how the day to day is and how products are developed. That would be so cool!

I love how loving & caring you are of your two daughters and you set a really good example for them to look up to. You don’t impose your thoughts/opinions to your them. That’s super important because the words that parents use will affect the mindsets of their children. I think that’s how a lot of the kids get their fixed mindset from and it ultimately holds you back from being curious, trying/learning new things and exploring their own passions in life.

Be grateful for the life that you had with your family. It could have been a lot worse. What you say you were missing is all “first world problems”. Many people actually suffered abuse, trauma, abandonment, lack of food and nourishment. If you want to spoil your kids then just do it but don’t blame your parents for not having the “ideal” childhood you wanted to have. You ask your kids what they’re grateful for but you’re not grateful yourself! Btw your mom looks wayyy better than you, she’s naturally beautiful unlike all the work you got done on your face.
