Why do I feel so good? My quest to understand Parkinson's and it's affect on my body never ends. If you haven't seen this video yet you will never guess what it could be. I say this because it's a surprise for me too!! When I went to the emergency room because of difficulty breathing, feeling the so good way I feel now was not on my mind. I am always trying to understand Parkinson's and feel like I stumbled upon this by accident.

And yes!! According to the MJFF constipation can impact your meds!!
"Constipation can significantly impact quality of life, causing bloating, discomfort and nausea. It is one of the most persistent symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD), arising often years before the motor symptoms and affecting people throughout their disease course. Constipation also can slow absorption and lower the effectiveness of Parkinson's medications, such as levodopa."

This is an example of how things can get tricky so be careful and talk with your doctor or pharmacist. I started to look into options to keep feeling this way and began looking into psyllium husks and something to be aware of according to this article from Mt. Sinai and other sources is that psyllium husk can have the opposite effect, and slow absorption of some medicines.

Glad you are feeling so much better Jennifer! For 6 months after my dx, my meds weren't working. I tried several different medications with little symptom relief when my MDS mentioned DBS. This freaked me out. After seeing an integrative medicine doc and changing my diet, my meds started working. I think my gut was moving so slowly that my meds weren't getting absorbed. That is my own thinking on it. Almost 7 years later, still no DBS and doing ok but when I start eating poorly, and I get constipated, my meds definitely don't work as well. Fruits, veggies and lots of water are key for me! Like I always say, it is not a thorough PD discussion until you talk about poop. Thanks for discussing the things no one else wants to talk about. Another aid for constipation that has been working for me, (after following the advise of a naturopath is ingesting vitamin C), but my real exciting news is after following the recommendations of Daphne Bryan's book, "Parkinson's and B1 Therapy, for 5 weeks, I am living life without many of Parkinson's symptoms. My backache is gone, my fatigue is greatly diminished, dexterity and tremors improved, and most importantly I feel like the old me. Not a cure, but a huge relief. (I still take my meds. I did consult my neurologist and got a, less than enthusiastic nod, but I consider the Vitamin therapy an answer to prayer - praise God!)

I find that vitamin b1 in the TTFD formulation helps to resolve my severe constipation completely - god knows why!

I had COVID earlier this year and I definitely didn’t have a bowel epiphany! I’m having a “When Harry met Sally” moment ….I’ll have what she’s having!🤣

Hi Jennifer. Glad to hear you are feeling so amazing. What you are saying makes a lot of sense. Interested to hear how you're feeling the next one or two weeks. No alcohol will make a big difference I'm sure. Thanks for the great update 🎉😊😊

Glad you are feeling much better Jennifer! Alcohol as we age is a very sharp double edged sword and it def is not our friend as our bodies can no longer clear it as fast! It's negative effects on our body can last up to a week as we approach age 50 with a slower gut and even longer as we age past 50! My opinion is speculative based on my own experience and why I no longer endulge in it by choice. A small bowl of butter pecan ice cream replaced it for me.

I take a stool soften before bed with magnesium and a big class of warmer water, fiber powder with my coffee in the morning. Then a hour after my meds vitamin c chewable a smoothie with walnuts, spinach, fruit, and a little prune juice works wonders...

Wow! What you’re saying makes perfect sense. I have often wondered about the connection between medication absorption and healthy bowels. It’s not a fun topic but an important one. Thx for your honesty, Jennifer!😊

Thank you for sharing! You are an inspiration! You have a great attitude! I was just diagnosed with Parkinson’s and I’m learning all I can about the subject. Once again, thank you.

I definitely find that intermittent fasting improves the absorption/ effectiveness of my levodopa dose, no question. So, what you are presenting makes sense to me! Thanks for your positive and useful input! Godspeed

Wonderful! Severe constipation was a big problem for this PWP. Things started moving again when I began drinking at least two large glasses of a drink made by adding water to two tablespoons of homemade ginger fermented in unpasteurized honey and one tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.

What you discovered is very important, Jennifer. Parkinson's is described as a "movement disorder." More fluid bowel movements seem essential to improving how our bodies function and feel. I experience symptoms such as stiffness, slow movements and "freezing" as contractions in my body, as resistance to movement. Flexibility and quicker movements feel more expanded, alive and healthy... We tend to see and treat our bodies as static objects, like slabs of dead meat, when they are more akin to vital, fluid processes, like flowing streams. Breathing and eating send streams of nutriments into the blood stream. This nourishes our muscles, tissues and other moving aspects of our bodies. When this streaming stops, we die... Encouraged by your experience, Jennifer, I'm acknowledging the flow of life through my body and mind. I'm participating in the flow of living and that feels great.
