Watching your channel definitely makes me feel more validated with how I feel and why I have a service dog, as I’m going through pretty much exactly the same thing you are with the anxiety issues and possibility of having undiagnosed POTS. Thank you for making videos it’s nice to know I’m not alone.

Hi Stacy. You have done a great job with Astro. I’ve breed Aussies for years using them as working stock dogs. I now have cancer and got River my 8 month Aussie female. I’m training her for service. Since treatments I have anxiety and depression River is very sensitive to me. I love what you’re sharing. I love how intune you are with Astro. You listen to your dog. Remember Aussies are herding dogs they do need livestock smells and companionship. Keep up the good job. I’m praying for your health.

As a potsie I will say that a higher heart rate because of panic attacks, anxiety, or stress would be difficult than pots. With pots you blood falls this causes Bp to drop and Hr to rise. For example laying my HR can be 70-80 then when I stand it reaches from 130 to 210 depending on the day and time. I’m not saying u don’t have POts just trying to give some personal advise !

4th of july girlie here! about to get my first aussie and i’m just bingeing your channel. also have anxiety but have it managed now, but the major depressive disorder kicks my butt… i love what you’re doing with astro. you’re rocking it out and it’s totally inspiring me! (embarrassingly like trying to train my dog to herd me to the shower, is that bad?) 😅

I agree with you 150%. I hate people asking what is wrong with you? I found a way to handle it which you might try. "I would love to tell you but federal law says you can not ask me what is wrong with me. So I can not answer you." that is ada. hope this helps you. good luck to you.

My Border Collie assistance dog in training has been a natural at detecting my high heart rates, I’m currently on a wait list to see a cardiologist for my heart rate, as when I’m sitting down it’s about 80-90. When I’m laying down it’s 68-76, when standing on a bad day it’s 125-140, it’s definitely been a long journey but my assistance dog in training (I’m from Australia) helps me. He also helps immensely with my autism and anxiety as well, when I’m over stimulated I scratch myself and in intense moments I have full on meltdowns, DPT has definitely helped me a lot.

I have crippling anxiety starting in maybe 5th grade. I think it comes from traumatic experiences though making me terrified of people. I also have autism and got diagnosed with depression last year but I don’t know if I still have depression. Anxiety is a very valid reason to have a service dog. Service dogs are service dogs. I also am feeling like I have an undiagnosed heart thing. I’ve been looking into things and I’m starting to wonder if I should get a diagnosis

Try a small toy, I use a kong duck squeaky toy for my service dog. It gets her attention and rewards her for tasks. And it's small enough to fit in a pocket. I thank people and tell people we are working and we can't share right now and talking is distracting us. I've had people call to mine when she's working and it can distract her which affects my balance.

Hi, I don’t know how long ago these training videos with Astro are with the alert barking but I would do a full reset with him if he barks like 2-3 times and won’t listen to your “no”. This means sending him to his place/crate (for 1-5 mins for him to calm down and reset). This teaches him that barking brings “negative” consequences and it won’t ruin your command. This will obviously stretch out your training at first but it will show him that as soon as he barks training is over, so that he learns barking is not welcome in training (and obvs training is only over for those 1-5 mins but it’s a clear cut).
@AstroFromTheBlue
@AstroFromTheBlue Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment! His crate is definitely his safe space and will not be using it as punishment. When he shoes frustration, we stop the training and take a break and tackle it again. I appreciate your tips tho :)

Hey! I love your videos, thank you so much for this one too. I have a question (I really don't want to come off as rude or anything, I think I just didn't understand well) So the undiagnosed issue is the heart possibility (POTS) not the anxiety, right? With that I mean to ask- so has Astro been officially marked/prescribed to you as a service dog? Or will he still have to pass some tests to be registered as one? (Sorry if my questions are too specific or something, I'm just not from the US so we don't have anything like it for service dogs) And just to add that I love watching your training sessions 💕💕
@notquiteasamazingjess
@notquiteasamazingjess Жыл бұрын
I think that she means the heart thing isn’t diagnosed, but the anxiety is. There’s no certification or registry for service dogs in the US. A service dog here is defined as a dog that can perform tasks that mitigate a disability. You only need a doctor to write a letter of accommodation for the workplace and housing in regards to a service animal.
@AstroFromTheBlue
@AstroFromTheBlue Жыл бұрын

That is the most annoying comment I have ever heard "You don't look like you're disabled" it does get irritating because the majority of disabilities are invisible so you can't physically see them. I have multiple invisible ones as well as a physical one due to an invisible one. I have anxiety, panic attacks as well as ptsd but I also have heart issues that I was just implanted with a pacemaker to help resolve back in January. Because of that hospital visit due to an emergency surgery on my leg I now walk with a limp, stumble over my own feet sometimes, sometimes can't even put my foot down flat or level, have pain in that leg, as well as having some nerve damage where my foot and ankle literally get a "tingling" sensation almost like you get when your foot falls asleep but I can get that feeling when I'm standing. laying down or walking as well as sitting normally with both feet on the floor, not just having my foot tucked under my other leg or over my leg. I completely understand how frustrating that comment can be. I've heard people say that to my daughter as well (she has a service dog for her autism and ptsd). I am currently beginning training my 6 month old Rough Coated Collie (think Lassie) to be my own Service Dog for mostly medical/cardiac alert, but he will also be trained when he is older for light mobility/counter balancing if he grows big enough which full grown he should be over 70lbs. I love your channel!! And I love YOU and ASTRO!!

I just had to wear a Holter monitor for 2 weeks to see what’s going on with my irregular heart-rate and dizziness, etc. I have similar symptoms to you but they don’t think it’s POTS due to it being fairly irregular instead of every time I stand up. I hope you’re able to figure out what’s going on.

I do enjoy your honesty and genuine interest in learning and also sharing what works for you. Please take all my comments lightly. You're amazing. My daughter has 2 a.d.a. clinically diagnosed disabilities and host of other issues not covered under the a.d.a. I think i'd recommend a tilt table test asap for you. Otherwise i recommend taking Astro to pet friendly places. Again, dont take this the wrong way please. But if youre not covered with a clinical diagnosis its families like mine that play dodge ball in stores with pets. Going to the grocery store has been our safe place for no pets. My family did use a service to train our dog but still hundreds of hours of owner training as well. If youre disabled then I get the need and want, my comment can be deleted. But if youre not disabled have courtesy to those who are by playing by store rules and local laws. My daughters SD is an austrailian shepherd thats 43 lbs but I post online because I dont want people to think aussies are great service dogs and have a trend start. They need different levels of exercise and attention that other breeds and have a strong will. Also, stop using words your dog doesnt understand such as no. Otherwise what you say means less to him. I dont rrally have any training tips, other than if you have a disability, consider contacting medical mutts in Indianapolis IN. But youll need proof of disability to be considered. They have remote training options. But be aware, even if you were to get in. 1 in 4 make it. Which is why Id never recommend as aussie. But, sometimes theres a 1 in a million dog and it can work as my family is proof of that. The the doctor recommended a SD we already had the aussie. Best of luck. Again dont take my comment as rude. Its easy to take my words wrong.

Hi thanks for sharing, and I don’t think your comment is rude. Astro gets plenty of physical and mental exercise. Astro is nowhere perfect to being 100% trained and he never will, but we are putting in hard hours to train him. He’s great at ignoring people and dogs when we do go out in public. I’ll take your comment into consideration :)
