@joelsilva72124 жыл бұрын
Neen said that he only does this sometimes and I'm pretty sure it's because when they press boards they press 10 at a time. So the boards at the bottom of the stack of 10 are steeper than the ones at the top and those boards at the bottom are the ones that Neen has to run over. Also if I remember correctly Paul Rodriguez said in a nine club podcast episode that he specifically asks for the 4th board in the stack.
@nw84884 жыл бұрын
This is correct, the place i worked (PennsWoodMFG, PA USA) pressed 6 at a time iirc, this is done for obvious manufacturing reasons. I think the amount pressed at a time varies due to the presses used. I think ours were made custom so they may have been smaller than what a big mass production shop would use.

Fascinating technique there. I personally prefer steep kicks. The tail does take more time to hit the ground but more force is built up which I think allows me to pop higher.
@martingracchus16874 жыл бұрын
I just got an 'almost: yuri twisted' deck with steep kicks,full shape, and resin 7 construction and it definitely feels like I get more pop on flat ground, but it took me a whole day at the park to get used to ollieng while going up banks again with the same height and consistency, still not sure if I have it down as good as I did with my standard deathwish deck. I could have just been coincidentally having an 'off' day. I think once I am used to it I will like it a lot, for the most part it already feels pretty great. I understand the logic behind flat decks too though, mostly a matter of preference and being accustomed to a specific specification.

Skated a TON of Almost/Blind Dwindle decks and I love the concave and depth. That being said I’m 260+ lbs so I think mellow vs steep has been less of an issue skating through the years, my bigger issue comes from strength and resilience of the board. Dwindle’s resin7 is the strongest epoxy I’ve used on a standard deck (not impact) and that solves my issues of breaking boards left and right. I think when you skate for so long, you learn what the issues you experience are and find ways to address them just like Neen has done here.

It really does come down to what is personal preference and what makes you feel comfortable and connected to your board. I do think it makes sense that mellow boards give you more control, which is great IF you have that control - for me more control does not mean easier to skate - it makes it harder. Same way super loose trucks give you more control - you need balance, like Daewon, to actually take advantage of it

My favorite deck I ever had was an element Levi brown deck. I got it because it looked different than the others, it was really flat. I couldn’t believe the difference it made.
@happyfingers554 жыл бұрын
I always put my board upside down on a curb and flex it down over and over with my feet. Sometimes I hear the sound of a tiny crack, typically when that happens my board lasts a lot longer and gets more flat. It is weird, but often if I don't do that my board will break on me really fast. I think it might be because it doesn't have that softened flex I need it to have. That flattened flex I need dramatically increase my consistency and comfort level to do harder tricks right away. With thunder trucks this is especially important, because thunder widens your wheelbase, which makes you pop slower sometimes depending on wheel size and several other factors. I can't skate many boards with thunder trucks, because of that slow pop rocket pop problem. I gotta keep my tricks more level.

I need heavy concave for catching it in the pocket of the concave . I never had issues doing nollie tricks. But I don’t do nollie off anything other than a ledge lmao. The concave help me personally. I also use what is considered the nose of the board as my tail. It gives off a much better pop on the board than the tail. Nose is usually wider, so way better stability for me. It’s crazy how we all love the same sport. But all skate so differently ahaha. I could never skate low to no concave. That’s why I skate mostly Chocolate and Darkstar boards. Hey Neen, advice to new skaters... Should we learn on what we're given, or should we flatten our boards? Like is it universally easier with a flat board, or is that just what you're used to? Peace and thanks ✌️

Learn on what you’re given. This is a preference thing, get a couple years under your belt to learn what you like/dislike in a board and if you’re going to stick with it before doing something like this

You could always just invest in a 2nd setup. I have a steep setup with full shape and a more mellow popsicle setup. Personally I prefer my steeper setup for learning and general use, once i learn stuff on that it makes tricks on the mellow setup easier. "More control" might be great if you're a pro like neen but i find it also means more room to go wrong, your control has to be better. An analogy might be really loose trucks - they give you much more control. They're also harder to skate bc your balance has to be way better.

Hey Neen, place 1 board under each wheel to maximize board mellowing efficiency.

You already try some high concave boards ?

I had a problem with an element board. It was too steep, i had to adapt to it cause i didnt knew about this hahaha. But Neen, have u ever had a problem doing this? Maybe cracked a board doing it or something?

As a wood worker ,I would put weight on the board over a couple days , it would stretch the fibers instead of snapping them , keeping more Pop in the board

had it ever have a difference of how it molds into getting flatter while the car is on it if it's hot or cold
