I won't be doing it like Bill.. How ' bout you, Steve ? How are you gonna unload all of those represses ? One at a time on Discogs ? There is a crew of two coming over to Bill's later.. They're helping him with removing a sofa, and of course, the three of us are there for the records ! Nice guys, and I don't mind the company. I have had this honey hole to myself for well over a year ! How's the move going ?

I like.. " Being surprised even by the uncoolest records" !! Agreed, I picked up a perfect copy of Peter and Gordon and Jay & The Americans, both 2 dollars each. P&G is easy to hear their nice melodies and wonderful harmonies.. Jay & The Americans is a bigger stretch for me.. He sings like Roy Orbison ( a good thing, actually ) but the material is too vanilla for me ! Just an example of keeping an open mind, like you say... Thanks ! Vegas was amazing to grow up in during that early time.

Great finds JT! Many collectors have given up on thrifting for multiple reasons. Myself, I only need one reason to never give up thrifting. It all depends on where we go and who’s running the show. 6 years ago I found a 3rd state Stereo Butcher Cover in amazing condition at a Goodwill Bookstore 3 minutes from my home! I continue shopping there to this day. Finding holy grail records is one reason I’ll never stop thrifting however it’s definitely not the main reason. I love records. I love looking through them no matter what I find or don’t find. That Jimmy Reed is beautiful! Blondie played with the Stones for over 15 years. Great find. I have a sealed copy of that record. I need to crack it open and have a listen. Keep on thrifting, JT. 😎

After work, I will be 1 of 3 digging at Bill's. I had it to myself for a whole year and pulled so many terrific records out of there, at an average of 5 dollars each. These new guys are cool, and one of them runs a concession , so he is always looking for inventory. Thanks, Steve ! Man, I know I'm late to the party on this one but I just watched your "Elvis at the International Hotel" video you made a year ago and I can't get my head around it. This is truly rarefied air for anybody in their teens. To see Barbra Streisand, Elvis (5 times) Tom Jones, Mac Davis and others during the glory days of Las Vegas is absolutely stunning. And your mom being a showgirl? unbelievable, what a life! And then to hang out at the hotel 4 or 5 times a week, amazing. You also mentioned seeing Slade, Humble Pie (one of the best live records ever) Yes and Three Dog Night ( check out @ Rock Essentials With Tim, he does a show on the band starting out in LA and goes through the old haunts around town, it came out about 5 days ago. He has a whole series of these with other bands of that period) is mind blowing. My first concert was Deep Purple/ELO in 1974 at age 13 (Deep Purple did show up). I'm Curious that History of Eric Clapton record album at the thrift shop Was that a white label promo ? You also scored some great titles at Bill's. Thanks Again for showing theses videos. Mahalo Ed

JT, one of the first concerts my dad dragged me to when I was eight years old was Gordon Lightfoot at the Hollywood bowl in 1974. To my recollection, it was a lunchtime show and I think I did enjoy it. “Sundown” just came out around that time. Oh you mentioned Mac Davis. I have a personal beef with him. I was a drummer in my high school band. We were having rehearsal at my keyboardist’s house. A neighbor calls to complain that we’re making too much noise. It was Mac Davis! A musician complaining about other musicians? It really annoyed me.

That's crazy about Mac complaining ! I do know players that want peace and quite when they are on down time, though.. Lot's of noise in the studio and performing. What a cool 1st show.. The Great Gordo ! Awesome 😉

@@jtsrecordroom3963Very cool JT. I love the Supraphonic! (The Bonham snare) I grew up in West LA. My keyboardist lived in Bel Air. It was a massive house so it’s hard to believe Mac even heard us jamming in the basement, but he apparently did. I still remember the day it happened and we get word from my friend’s Mom “Mac Davis is complaining.” We were all like “whattt?” We played Prog rock so I’m sure it wasn’t his thing lol

Thrifting for vinyl here is bad, but you can find some CDs, DVDs, etc. But still I like it and sometimes you'll run across a jewel. It's just that vinyl has become such a fad, the thrifts well sell any old junk, in any old condition and want $2. or so for it, and really they should have just thrown it in the trash. You found some nice scores though.

Sorry for the delay in answering ! I finished work and then made a bee line for Bill's garage ! I was the only one there tonight, I used a headlamp to see better.. I made out alright ! I know it can be a drag to go into these shops and find nothing. Here in Reno, I'm pretty locked in and have a good sense of where to go around town ! Thanks for checking this one out 🫡

Jt the one man thrift machine 👍 Thought I saw an Association record at the start. Aren’t they meant to be good psych/garage? Wichita Lineman…what a song. The Aus band The Clouds did a great version in the 90’s too. Scary polka music 😂 Cool Ike & Tina story. I see that It’s A Beautiful Day album a bit. I would like the Jt’s opinion. It’s obviously good if it’s on your wall. I’m with you on the thrill of the hunt, although I hunt several different jungles….record stores, online & vinnies jungles that is 😂 Good point about muso’s having to put in the hard yards in other successful touring bands before they had success of their own. Nobody just comes out of nowhere. Bill does it again!! The King’s comeback gig wow! Nice Jimmy Reed too. Quadraphenia yeah man! Cheers…Ben

I grew up with It's A Beautiful Day, and that record in particular.. 1970. ( my sister's collection ). Those SF Bay Area Bands were huge here, since we are in the same region, pretty much. White Bird and Hot Summer Day are epic.. To me ! Glad you got my point about taking work when you can get it. Patience can lead to bigger and better things ! Thanks, ben

You mentioned not liking Goodwill. Just curious, why?
@jtsrecordroom3963
@jtsrecordroom3963 5 ай бұрын
There are a few reasons.. first of all. we have many other choices vs. Goodwill, that have much lower prices for records. In our region, the CEO skims a larger portion than any other thrift chain and pays his managers poorly. Also.. They hold back the best records to sell them online, putting out records worth 3 dollars and selling them for 3 dollars. Mostly.. the one owner from Sacramento has a reputation of profiting much more than he really should. That's a common consensus in our region. Thanks for asking 🫡
@padraigcollins6525
@padraigcollins6525 5 ай бұрын
Oh, that’s very interesting. I just assumed they were all owned and run by Goodwill rather than being, as this sounds, a franchise. That’s disappointing to hear that about that outlet. I worked in Goodwill in its Boston headquarters for about five months over summer/fall a long time ago. I bought a lot of books and some tapes in the store. I presume I got a staff discount, but I can’t remember.

@padraigcollins6525 The Goodwills in Reno and Sacramento are the ones privately run. I knew 3 different managers and other customers in the know. Hopefully, that guy is gone now, but I am not sure. I guess the rest of America is operated well, I would hope !

who owns Bridge over Trouble water the Ventures or Simon and Garfunkel or is it the same title but a different song? Flip Wilson , Glen Cambell , now Good will , Disco Hustle how interesting , I will guess Donna Summer, Manhatten transfer, Chic , Patrick Hernandez, Vickie Sue would be my guess? traveling willburys cassette nice sweet, interesting four freshmen and 5 trombones , Jerry Lee Lewis , Ventures , Kenny Rogers and first edition , , Jay and the Americans , Disco Hustle, Robert Fripp, Bobby Womack , Crystals , , Billy Joel Cold Spring Harbor , Elvis 1970 , question 2. how many times has Johnny B Goode been done? Chuck Berry Judas Priest from Ram it down Jay and the Americans 2. B which version do you like better Judas Priest or Jay and the Americans? 3. Now who's considered better Jay and the Americans or Becker and Fagan? 4. so why did everybody hate Disco How come nobody hated hip hop which I was told came out in 1973? 5. are the grammy correct that Hip Hop came out in 1973? I can't think of any albums , when you went to a store like record world, record town , music den , tapeville , Sam Goody , Tower and the wiz I never saw a category for hip hop I saw Rock , saw letters and a price would be with that particular saw the category of pop , country , Disco no sounds of the 70's, no hip hop what am i missing 6. How come today at the Grammys they hand out awards for best Rap artist but no Heavy Metal they pick it up off camera? 6B how come nobody or not as many hate hip hop and Rap today like they hated Disco?
