That engine was designed by Mercedes-Benz in the 1990s. Mopar has been building cheaper versions of almost the same engine (minus the expensive parts and exotic metals that made it reliable) and then plopping it it nearly everything to save money on design. So there is almost no consideration for how or if even things will work well together. Nope. Just cheapest options, parts bins and then everything else is an afterthought revised only if something will result in mass deaths or mass lawsuits. Otherwise they produce it and ship it.

Explanation: The engine and oil pan were designed for another car and were already in mass production before this car was developed. The stabilisator was necessary this way or for the same reason was already produced earlier before in another car. People think it's one or a few engineers but there are a lot of them. High chances engineer who designed the oilpan and engineer who decided the position of the stabilisator didnt ever see each other. In reality as an engineer you are rarely able to decide anything by your own mind. The very most times there is just one solution left with the least-bad downside.

@@pbe6965 Remember that corrosion is a wide topic and there are various forms of "corrosions", I presume we are talking here about galvanic corrosion the rate of onset and progression requires moisture and elevated temperatures. The inside of the engine block sees very high temperatures an occasional moisture ingress and with very high pressures inside, is a breading ground for corrosion, not while the engine is being used though, maybe after the car has been left unused for a while..the reason we said oil can also promote corrosion is that very old oil tend to break down and the metal particulates promotes ion "movement" and thats what corrosion is from a bird's eyeview. Corrosion is a complicated topic that encompasses physics/chemistry and engineering sciences, I recall attending a month long training as a young trainee mechanical engineer in my first company about 24yrs ago, there was so much content and were told theres still a huge chunk we didnt cover

But nowadays, cars are needlessly complex that even people with basic knowledge about cars can't maintain their cars because they need specific tools only found in a garage, and often, only the manufacturer garage has it. If though, Chryslers oil change manual for Chrysler workshops does not state to suck out the oil, then it's really dumb.

So water ran freely down the two wires (Gravity? What's gravity?) into the plug where the engineer thoughtfully double sealed the water inside, shorting it out. If you know anything about the complexity of a car factory and all the processes involved you would know it isn't simple at all. That engine isn't in this car alone. Not really. Engineers will make good products they just get screwed by management. This happens all the time and engineers at a large company don't actually get to make those decisions, accounting does
@Epilon

@@caseymurray7722exactly. The majority of bad designs can be more blamed on the bean counters than the engineers themselves. There is a hidden beurocracy that affects almost every design decision in large companies. Oftentimes engineers have to fight management for better products, but most people get burnt out trying to do shit that they dont get paid for. Management also tends to lay off the experienced staff (especially those who are vocal) and hire new people (oftentimes from offshore) with little to no clue what they are doing.

@shanerorko8076

It's because the drivetrain is manufactured in a totally different place to the chassis, and then the model engineers have to use what they are given. They might've asked if they can get a oil pan revision, but were likely denied due to cost. Many cars do this now on various different components of suspension, the workshop fix is to use flexi funnels to direct the oil.
