Good video. Ranni is probably more like Shiva, who wears a moon on his head, deals with formlessness, he is also blue, freedom, liberation (god of yoga), detachment of senses, and transcendence. Additionally, we can see how the lore of Astrologers and the stars leads back to the age of the giants and the ruins of Rauh (a few videos are making that link like Nameless Singer's vid). There are architectural hints relating to the horned Pashupati seal which in hinduism is seen as Shiva. The bulls on the stone coffins at cerulean coast, the possibility of those coming from the stars, speaks of Shiva-ish stuff to my ears. Once again, very great video. (I am a researcher of Indian and Asian Philosophy and Religion for context) Some more cool links: The fiercest, most aggressive version of Vishnu is Narasimha, in his lion form [Radhan] to rid the world of an evil king Hiranyakashipu (name literally means Hair of Gold [Marika], who did religious persecution after trying to obtain immortality and total lordship over all entities [Marika], Hiran also wields a mace [Marika}. Narasimha is summoned by a pure child [Miquella] to defeat Hiran. In this battle the Gods wanted Ldkshmi (St. Trina/ The Flower) to calm Narasimha, but she was unable to, and only the child could.

The game is definitely a big amalgamation of various traditions, philosophies, histories and occult symbolism, and although I think there is much more than Hinduism going on here, I do feel there is more than the community has touched on (at least as far as I have seen). Some hindu relations: RaNi is Queen in sanskrit. Rakshasa armor is named after certain demons in Indian mythology. The spirals and snakes can relate highly to the Kundalini, which represent Sun and Moon, and were adopted ideas in the alchemical tradition of europe. The ideas of duality and non-duality are the central topics in Indian philosophy, leading all saints to the unified, non-dual state; the clinging to duality, to separation is where all suffering comes from. This is said by many Hindu saints, Yogis, Buddhist masters, etc. Ardhnarisvara is a big God in hinduism. This is the combined female and male energy of Shiva-Shakti. There is a lot of this switching genders, or being both in Hinduism. There is also a lot of being a humanoid animal/beast form of a god. The left eye represents moon/spirit in much of the tradition, and the right represents the sun, and the physical, vital energy. There is a history of the Christian government in europe stopping things that related to the left, to spirits, to death, to the formless. There are a bunch of little hints, and I do suspect many are because various European traditions adopted some symbolism and ideologies, and that much of the Vedic Indian tradition stemmed from the Mesopotamian area.

Another cool parallel in the story is that Hiranyakashipu was blessed by the gods to be immortal, neither harmed by man or beast on land or water. Narasimha (half beast half man) kills him in the foaming tides of of the sea (neither solid nor liquid, neither on land or water), could be tied to the importance of the gates of divinity as a transitory middle ground where the impossible comes to pass.

Another additions - “gods light” is constant in both Farouk Azula and EnirElim. Day continues despite ten natrural state of day/night, so there is a sense that gods meddling is somehow physically tied with that cycle. The fell god being symbolized by a sun might also learn toward this idea. Mostly rambling, great video! Been a while since I’ve been so throughly inspired to rethink my lore ideas

I really think the Divine aspect that Marika/Miquella gain from the Gates of Divinity is the control or influence over Sprites, which is potentially what exactly the Crucible is itself. The laws of Nature. Think about the holy element honestly looks like the holy light contains Sprites.

Definitely there could be two separate suns, planets exist in duo sun systems. The fell gods sun does seem different than the sun involved with Godwin’s eclipse.

The timing on you releasing this is hilarious to me because it was just a week or two ago I was chatting with my friend about topics for my own videos and the 4 arms thing came up in relation to a completely separate topic, to which I said “Miquella and Ranni probably both have four arms as spirits to draw an association between their status as empyreans and the various enlightened gods of Hindu and Buddhist mythologies with multiple arms. It’s interesting that Miquella lost his right arm in game, as at one of the crosses he abandoned his arm *dextral* meaning right hand (counter to arm sinistral being left) and yet his divine form has his right arm and not the left. I wonder if his left arm was the last physical part of his body not abandoned before godhood, with his god form replacing all of the abandoned body parts only (hence his decision to cast as much of himself off as possible)

Coincidentally I talked about this with the Discerning Tarnished and the people of Square Table Gaming in their discord. I think you are spot on with the Hindu symbology and the divinity represented by the multiple members. They also represent the divine ability of multitasking, and someone I don't remember long ago made a video on Ranni explaining how her arms and pose pictured her as always plotting one step ahead under her more mundane actions. In the game there are other characters that strive for godhood, mainly Godrick and Raykard. But none of these are empireans themselves, and they do so by trying to steal other's strength by grafting or by fusing with the god devouring serpent and devouring others. In both cases the process of getting closer to divinity is represented by extra arms and other limbs, but being failed attempts they are shown as blasphemous mockery of the same concept. There are other glimpses of divinity we can see in the game too: The saint of the bud and the servants of rot, all have plenty of limbs; The fire giant, who has a whole extra face in his chest, multiple faces also being a sign of divinity in Hinduism and Ranni also having this trait; Marika, who being a god only shows two arms on a pretty normal humanoid body, but who could be argued she has at least two full human bodies to herself, Radagon being her other half. So this symbolism seems to be pretty consistent across different depictions of godhood in the game. Also worth noting that the position of Miquella on Radahn's piggyback, with one hand pointing to the sky, is reminiscent of christian iconography of prophets and Christ himself, particularly the Christ-emperor of the christian roman empire times revealing himself as lord of the heavens. P.S. I forgot about Malenia, the other empirean we know of. In her case, instead of trying to get closer to divinity she actively fights against the manifestation of Rot, to the point of losing three of her extremities and her eyes in the process. But when she embraces her role as Goddess of Rot she gains butterfly wings, one of the characteristics of Rot, and we know that at some point after her first blooming she "sprouted" five full human beings that are to some degree parts of herself. All this brings an interesting question, though. Did the snowy crone have four arms, or was that a liberty Ranni took when constructing the puppet body? Was the crone linked to divinity, an aspect of divinity or a god herself? Anyway, great video, looking forward for more.

You make some excellent points here! I think it was Smoughtown who brought up Ranni’s arms symbolizing her scheming but I can’t remember for sure! Also I LOVE the connection to Malenia - that she loses limbs when rejecting divinity and gains them when embracing it! Her wings could also be interpreted as a pair of arms in that symbolic sense! lol this just further shows that Ranni is still tied to the Greater Will she claims "here beginners the chill night, that encompasses all, reaching the great beyond" staff of the great beyond: Staff fashioned from the tail-fingers of Metyr, the Mother of Fingers, and the microcosm raised aloft over the crux they form. Catalyst for casting both sorceries and incantations. The Mother received signs from the Greater Will from the beyond of the microcosm. Despite being broken and abandoned, she kept waiting for another message to come.

Basically while Miquella wants a "hands on" approach, controlling everything while repelling the Greater Will with Unalloyed Gold, Ranni wants to be "hands off" taking the order back to the Great Beyond, and leaving people to choose for themselves.

So I'd say that outstretched hand more so would represent his coming age/dominion of compassion, rather than war. Something I just noticed is one of Miquella's crosses (the one in Belurat Tower) states "I abandon here my arm sinistral." It's a fancy way of saying his left arm, but the specific word choice is interesting, because sinistral can also refer to mollosk shells with a whorl or spiral that coils in a clockwise direction. I'm not entirely sure, but I think the similarity to the word sinister might be due to the association of left-handedness and Satan in Christianity. Im not 100% sure about that connection though, so correct me if I'm wrong. But I think it's very cool how, with a single word, From managed to subtly confirm that we are indeed meant to draw parallels between Miquella and Vishnu

Two characters having similar braids in their hair is evidence of their connection, but their identical endings are just a neat coincidence. I believe Miquella was controlling Ranni to use her to see if becoming a spirit would cause an Empyrean to become a god, then to test out the moon method of apotheosis. Miquella controlled Rykard and had him feed himself to a snake to see if that would work. He arranged the death of Godwyn to see if the eclipse would work. He experimented on Malenia to see if unalloyed gold separating an Empyrean from the outer gods would work. And he arranged the imprisonment of Marika so he could use the gateway method like her, as the other methods failed. It’s possible he was even using Godrick to see if grafting worked.

6:50 his arm is missing cause he abandoned it too and probably abandoned what it represented. I don't know what the right arm represents, but his left arm can be seen in the statues of Haligtree town, if you look closely they have veins and a mark similar to a scar, probably where he did the bloodletting to irrigate the tree. As i see it, his left arm not being restored when he ascends means that he didn't want to have anything related to that part of his past, much like with Trina, maybe cause he sees the haligtree as a failure.

The spiritual parallels between Ranni and Miquella seem that they embody the concepts of Determinism and Salvation between them. Ranni's Age is one where there is no central spiritual authority and people must discover their own path and Miquella's is that of placing absolute spiritual guidance in an external savior who directs them with complete authority.

Been listening to a lot of Sri Nisargadatta lately and your interpretations of Hinduism seems to be pretty spot on for the most part. Anyways, i love a lot of religious, philosophical, and sscience etc connections to video games and live even more when creators tie some of those ends together to better understand the message or theme of the stories

It would be fitting then that Ansbach, who served Mohg, is the one who takes the arm that represents understanding of the way of the world. As Goldmask alludes to, it's likely the hypocrisy and fickleness of the gods that despoils any order they create

Just out of curiosity, many Hindu gods have multiple arms why did you draw parallels on only Vishu the eternal preserver? Why not Brahma the creator or Shiva the destroyer (who also has dark skin similar to Vishnu)?

Great question! Miquella’s Age of Kindness seems to align with the concept of preservation, plus Vishnu’s discus/chakram stood out for its similarity to Miquella’s Discus of Light! Then the more I looked into it the more it seemed Miquella paralleled Vishnu!

Isn’t it kinda odd that, in order to become Godfrey, Hoarah Loux had to take the Beast Regent Serosh upon himself in a similar manner that Miquella drapes himself over Radahn? I wonder if the Hornsent meant for Serosh to become a Beastly God, and instead Marika “sinned” by robbing godhood for herself, making her the dominant aspect of the three between herself, Serosh, and Radagon. It could be that, just as Miquella discarded his actual body and his “fate”, aka Saint Trina, whatever Serosh was before godhood shed its body, becoming Radagon, then it’s “fate” in Marika, and thus became the Beast Regent Serosh. Except Marika upstaged Serosh and took godhood in its place, giving her power over it. (This would also explain why Radagon can share a body with Marika, because he IS the body they used to have)

Just wild speculation on my part after that lol I’m also not sure where this leaves Maliketh, who’s supposed to be Marika’s Shadow and all that. I mean, Shadows are gifted by the Two Fingers, so I guess that really don’t have anything to do with Empyreans and godhood, but still… Actually, while we’re on THAT tangent: why is Miquella even a candidate for godhood? The game sorta goes out of its way to highlight how matriarchal the two most dominant societies are, between Queen Marika and Lunar Queen Rennala. Likewise, Radahn and Rykard aren’t given Shadows or considered eligible for godhood, yet Ranni -heir to BOTH thrones, by the by - is? And that’s not even getting into how Malenia was chosen as a vessel for an Outer God at BIRTH. Like, it’s pretty clear that godhood in ER tends to be feminine…so how’d Miquella circumvent that? Hell, what Outer God is he even serving, if he’s serving one at all??
