I wore birks almost exclusively for my final years in college. They definitely are stiff right out of the box, but as you wear them in they become perfect.

The sandal is basically an orthopedic wedge, it has to mold to your foot, leave them out in the sun for a few hours, let the footbed get hot and walk around in them for a while, it'll mold to your foot.

you really need to get them sized properly to give any sort of judgement call on the fit/feel. also they have versions that have a soft footbed right out the box if you don't want to spend the time to break them in

Love my Birkebnstocks!!! I have many pair They do take a while to break in but after that they are hard to get off your feet. You should try the Boston's and if you try another pair get "soft bed."

I’m 22 and I’ve had foot pain for my whole life. No matter what type of shoe, insole, or width. I was thinking I needed a soft soft soft footbed to fix my toe numbness after wearing a shoe all day and then I just thought to try the opposite. I got a properly sized Arizona and it hurt at first 2 weeks. After wearing them daily my foot pain has completely gone away with zero toe numbness like I’ve always had. I’m convinced by their “technology” if you can call it that. I’m more than likely going to make my whole shoe lineup Birkenstocks. They have such a variety for any type of day. Fucken comfy, what can I say.

Just like any shoe the right size matters. Not like Birks are randomly rare. Also I have seen wooks at hot springs around here (I live down the coast from you) use them as a weapon. Birkenstocks are awesome and classic. Great for river activities.

The original Reebok Question also molded to your foot, with their Hexalite tech. It's a shame the retros don't have the same build, because it's still a dope shoe and (from what I remember) was great to ball in. The new retros only have a Hexalite pod in the heel window in midsole.

it hurts a bit when you first wear it during "break in" time but once the cork footbed forms to your feet, its the most comfortable footwear youll ever wear 🙌

I got a cobbler to resole my Arizonas with Vibram lugged outsole. Best hiking shoes I have! As for regular resoles there are tons of cobblers that will replace the outsole with a Birk branded or Vibram outsole. It helps keep a ton of cobblers going. In 2022 we need more people fixing instead of replacing

I'm going on year two of my first pair, and I'm a total convert. You have to invest the time to break them in, but once they shape to your foot, the fit is 1:1. I use mine as house shoes, and there's nothing more comfortable than throwing them on after a long day walking around the city, etc. I got regular nubuck, so can't speak to the quality of their synthetic stuff, but overall they've got to be the best money I've spent on footwear in recent memory. Looking at picking up the Kyoto model next.

Outsoles can definitely benefit with a modern-ish upgrade. Maybe with Conti, Vibram, or Stealth outsoles.

I don't understand all these people who say they need to be broken in. I got my first pair last summer, and from the moment I put them on I knew I'd never buy any other brand of shoe from then on out. They are made for my feet. Mayari was first, then Boston over the winter, and this summer it's Franca. All fit exactly the same. (Getting my size can be an issue, though. Hey Birkenstock guys, I need Zermatts for my 39 Regular/Wide duck feet, but apparently you don't make them anymore? They are NEVER in stock.)

Very much like real dress shoes, the quality ones at least, most have cork in between insoles and outsoles and form to your feet as well. My most comfortable shoes (over 100+ sneakers) is a pair of shell cordovan wing tip dress shoes with double oak leather bottoms. Berks don't want to make rubber outsoles because people won't keep coming back for more as often. Just another perspective? Keep up the good work bruh!

Recently bought some oiled leather birks and they are amazingly comfy. They mould to your foot over time and are tried and true. A bit pricey but worth it IMO

Got a pair last month and been wearing em every day since. Helps to break them in quicker if your feet sweat while wearing them. Also bend them a few times before putting them on.

Love these. Had no problem.They breakdown so well and mold to ur foot. Tho don’t expect them squishness 😂 Their new smell and colour fade through out longer usage is good. Downside don’t do well with water and sandy places so not a beach kind of footwear. Cause they absorb and take quite a while to dry and if not dried well they give off a funky smell . Also because it’s closed up at the sides and the toes the sand and small debris tend to collect in the sandals itself.😅

I can't speak to Birkenstock but something like Redwing boots that end up molding to your foot are definitely worth it and much more quality materials than Birkenstock.

The best way to break in is to wear exclusively around the house with socks for a few weeks... or longer for the big buckle style with the harder footbed lining. Eventually, the cork will soften to the foot. Then you have your "best bud" shoes for the next 10 years, and you will think it is worth replacing the outsole. However, only some people visit a cobbler for shoe repair anymore as shoes designed since the 1800s are manufactured to throw away and are not worth repairing. you may change your mind on wearing cheap shoes as you get older and consider them an investment in foot health rather than a fashion statement. Yes, being retired makes that easier.

_My Theory:_ Hes likes squishy shoes because he has no arch, Hes has a fallen arch because he wears squishy shoes. Different footwear has different pros and cons of how it interacts with the body bio-mechanic engineering. Have my doubts that nature intended humans to spend their waking hours wearing a _Nike Air Zoom X React_ shoe. To that end, IMO, the best type of footwear would be one with a mostly hard, flat, wide base and midsole from which your foot would work as much as if you were barefoot but entirely protected by an upper and an outsole. Something like a boat shoe or a Goodyear welted shoe. Birkenstocks fit well within this scheme.

I have fallen arches as a result of my genetics. And Hes speaks for people like myself and helps us select footwear that is comfortable for our community. Some shoes can work for everyone, no matter your foot type. This, just like the ultra-squishy shoes, is not one of them.

ok i disagree. ive owned 3 pairs of birkenstocks which probably lasted me 5+ years while they do mold to your feet and get softer its nothing to write home about they are still uncomfortable and walking in them all day will kill your feet. I think people gravitate toward them because they are slides and there easy to slip on and the looks/style appeal to them just like any other sandal.

Had a pair once upon a time, they were expensive and they were horrid in the rain. To think that I live in a tropical country (🇵🇭). Once I discovered Sandugo, Tribu and Habagat sandals, they offered better foot damping and grip, for 1/4 the price of Birkenstocks.

I have very wide feet and Birkenstock's Original footbed is about the only shoe that wears comfortably for myself. Always read the description. Sellers don't care that you didn't read it and refuse a return bc you didn't read their description! I've been stuck with a pair & I had to resale. Some of us have to wear suits for work. If dress shoes are a part of your wardrobe, breaking in shoes is among your activities. Same with work boots, a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers doesn't come broken in from the box. If you live in sneakers, then yes, breaking in shoes will be a concept foreign to you. 👍
