Since the ps3 console gaming is just a rip off. (Earlier it was cheaper hence it was a special hardware.... now it is a pc shit and it became not cheaper but way more expensive. Also games. Earlier they used to say switching to x86 platform will cut down sw development times and costs and multi platforming will be much easier. And tadaa also the games are much more expensive. The ps plus became a must have for online...The external design is the only added feature and the “holy “ magic gate shit. I am praying for a newcomer console company to cut the prices and the ego a bit back because sony and m$ just milking the console users like cows.

I'll be honest, My Original one that came with console lasted long. But I bought two controllers, 6 months ago, and both already have stick drift. I play Siege for the most part and ya'll know how much of L3 and R3 is used to peek. I don't press hard on them, and pamper it like my baby but it just doesn't work well. I am thinking to sell off my PS4. I guess Sony actually started ignoring the quality of DS4 this year.

Sony has honestly become a shit tear company and it's really upsetting, I just got a battle beaver custom for Christmas and they use stock dualshock controllers, and it's giving me some really weird movement from my right analog. It pisses me off do fucking bad that I can't just enjoy the product that I paid for, and since ps pretty much turned into Xbox with lower quality controllers I think there honestly isn't any reason to stay with this console, bc I have not had a single dualshock that hasn't had a problem in it's lifespan.

I've had several ds4s that all started to drift at some point before a year of ownership. My last DS4 lasted about a month with drift on a stick that I barely even touched and the controller itself was still new and clean. I retired gaming on my ps4 after that.

I kind of disagree with modern controllers getting more abused considering a lot of us probably had more time to log in more hours as a kid then we do as adults and those older gen controllers have held up far better than current gen. I believe it's simply a matter of them sacrificing build quality for more functuality.

Dude I used to take my NES controllers by the cord and slam them repeatedly into the ground full force when I was a kid lol. Many times. Not once did any of them break, in fact I still have them to this day and they still work. I probably have 8 DS4 controllers that have been handled with extreme care because I’m now in my 40’s and don’t rage at games anymore. Maybe 3 of them work reliably, and one of those is starting to develop drift. It’s getting pretty aggravating having to replace these things every 5-6 months.

Same, the controller which came in box with my ps4 started drifting after 1,5 years and cleaning wouldn't fix it so I had to buy a new one. Bought last of us 2 edition, used it for 20 hours, then cyberpunk came out, I played it on PC so I didn't touch ds4 for 3 weeks, I wiped the dust off and put it into isolated box. Guess what? Right now my rose gold controller is drifting slightly on the Right stick and I got it a year ago and the switch joycons with the switch I got around same time us drift as well. Another large issue I don’t see being addressed is dead zone problems. I bought a DS4 and immediately knew something was wrong with it. Returned the controller not once not twice but three times before I got a controller without any dead zone.

Sometimes when I click the triggers my character or camera will move. This makes playing racing and stealth games unplayable. And I never had these issues with my Nintendo or Xbox controllers and I hardly play FPS games. I think the PS4 controller just sucks with the analog sticks.

Pretty sure my DualShock 4’s issues mostly stem from traditional wear and tear from using it over the years (since 2015). The controller that came with my PS4 never had zero drift issues, but the spare one I bought has drift after only a year or two of using it. Trying to sprint with the original black one is almost impossible since pressing L3 only registers half the time. The right analog stick, miraculously, is in top condition compared to the left analog stick and the sticks on my spare controller. When I have trouble aiming in games such as Green Hell, I’ve temporarily switched over to the black (original) just to be able to get a steady aim and headshot enemies.

I just got to the point where I didn’t buy DualShock anymore and I’d buy wired nacon controllers which worked better but I broke it so I bought a DualShock 4 v1 from a friend who got it with their PS4 and I don’t have this issue at all but then again the parts weren’t in this high of demand so in my opinion the v1 controllers are better than the v2 controllers

There are a lot of fake controllers sold out there, so be weary that if not getting a genuine one, the joysticks may be much cheaper than official Sony ones depending on what components were matched with it.

The first ps4 controller I have ever owned works fine. The new ones with the light bar across the touch pad... every single one of them has developed drift on the right analog stick. I take care of my controllers. No eating chips, or any foods when I'm fully immersed in a game. I would like to see what is different inside the older, and newer controllers. I'm not taking mine apart because I know I'll Fudge it all up. There has to be a difference between the two!

That’s not dirt, that’s the stick grinding against the rim. Basically it’s plastic. That’s why it’s more prevalent on the left stick than on the right. Controller should have some rubber wall to protect against this, as pro controllers do.

A simple solution in software is for sony to just add a outer threshold and a deadzone option in the ps4 settings for each analog. I can't run right now but if there was an outer threshold option i could adjust I can have the controller register it's max input even if it's physically not receiving max input

I went through 3 PS4 controllers One had major stick drift and kept going up constantly. Another was the charger port and just stop charging and kept having to bend my charger for it to charge and charger port just broke. The one I’m currently on has two prombles one is that when I press the L2 button it looks up wen I’m not using the right analog and my L3 button doesn’t respond sometimes. Another one I have also has bad stick drift and the it move stiffly. The PS4 controller are so bad and I may just go to a xb1 or play on switch since I have a pro controller

There is a better way to fix your controller that is way less risky. There is a contact and electronics cleaning solution called Deoxit D5. This is designed to clean contacts on electronic equipment and is perfectly safe in small doses on your controller. I sprayed a very small amount in where the thumbsticks meet the controller and worked the thumbstick around. Stick drift is gone. If you want to do a bit more precise work, take the controller back off and spray in the contact points, but overall this doesn't take a ton of work and you don't risk breaking your controller.

Out of 5 controllers over the years, 4 of them have had random jitter on the right analog stick, eventually. That is, after left-right movement, and then return stick to idle position, sensor will output small random right-left fluctuations that are large enough to register if you have deadzone off or very small (which is how I play shooters). This leads to jitter in small fine movement control. Is this normal? I'm going to send in my 4th controller to Sony for replacement as this happened after 5 months on last controller. EDIT: given your video, it seems the potentiometers are failing and after some initial movement they start "triggering" spontaneously.

Yup, I've used four DS4 controllers over the last 5 years and every single one of them starts to have left stick problems after around 3-4 months of heavy use (for example running and walking for hundreds of hours in Bloodborne, Horizon, Elden Ring etc) and I just have to sit there and deal with it until I get so frustrated I buy another controller. Lately I've been considering alternatives like the Nacon Rev Pro 3 and even tension bands to keep the thumbsticks under control and avoid extra wear, but I'm just not sure anymore... If you have a recommendation, I'll take it in a heartbeat at this point.

All i want to add to your amazing video is that, all modern joysticks work exactly the same, and most share the exact same joystick model (RKJXV), with 2 potentiometers on the stick that end up having problems, plastic tear, everything uses this good but unreliable system, plastic wears out, carbon traces in the potentiometers get jammed with debries or get worn out, and the ps5 uses the exact same, X box controllers, all the 3rd party controllers you can buy are the exact same or worse, there is no escaping this unfortunatly, only way to fiz is to either replace the potentiometers or the entire stick depending on how bad the issue is, IFixit had and amazing video on this (Here's Why ps5 Joysticks Drift) and it's kinda shocking that you can exceed their expected life in less than 400 hours of gameplay

my problem is that the right stick, moving left for some reason isnt as "sensitive" or "slower" compared to moving it to the right after replacing the sensors after having for less than 6 months . Also i think that its a design and manufactor flaw becuase near enough very game you can play uses both sticks to control with, so sony shouldve made the controller my resistant to wear and tear for much longer periods of time becuase most people dont fancy paying 50 quid for a controller every 6 months

For me it is definitely not a case of more use. When I was a kid I LIVED on my nintend64 including mario kart which required you to quckly move your analog left and right over and over. I and none of my friends ever had an issue with drift, only less responsiveness due to very obvious wear and tear after years. Conversely, now I am much lighter on the controlls as my figers just aren't up to it, but boy have I had problems with analog controllers drifting. I think the main problem is the introduction of the clicker causing more of a gap which allows dirt to get in and increasing the complexity of the stick. The click was never even a good feature to add and if it's causing more dirt and wear, which I also suspect, that makes the situation even worse.

On my 5th controller now... the last 2 had to be replaced not because of controle drift, but because of squeaky/stiff joysticks. Unbearable to aim with. Believe me i've been treating them absurdly carefull. I'm very capable of fixing controller drift but it's factually impossible to fix squeaky/stiff joysticks because the origin of the problem is welded onto the motherboard. I hate sony so much for this. At least make it repairable...

The weirdest thing keeps happening. In games like Minecraft and overwatch my left menu stick wants to constantly force the menu cursor to go down and is sensitive Soo much so that it has made traversing the settings menus in order to change anything that could help the issue impossible. Only issue I had with my XB1 controller was that the headphone jack stopped working, but magically came back 6 months later. The DS4 tho, i had problems. Now, to be fair my DS4 is from 2015 and the XB1 controller is from late 2018 and another one from 2016. However, in my brother's DS4 (from 2019), the battery is dead and L3 doesn't function properly. Mine is the V1 and my brother's is the V2 (Slim)

Great video. How about that crappy rubber quality the PS4 controller analog sticks use? They get peeled with just a few sessions. I don't know why they switched them; I never had issues with any previous PS DualShocks before (PS1, PS2 and PS3).

I’ll move my left analog stick slightly in one direction with my ps4 controller and then it just gets stuck In one direction without the analog facing it. Are the wheels guided by rubber bands or something cause in shorter terms my analog no longer “self centers”

Within 5 years my launch day(gen 1) PS4 controler was having seirous problems with both the sticks & the buttons. I was even having the damn thing completly disconnect from the PS4. Kinda understandable because it was a pretty old console. So I ended up springing for the newer PS4 Slim since my old PS4 started having HDMI issues anyway. The new PS4 slim console works great but the controler started having nearly the same issues(stick drift, buttons not working) it was ignorable when it happened in the menu eveey now & then but it was scary when it started to happen to me while playing Ace Combat 7. I think this is an issue with the firmware for the controler itslef included innthe most recent update Sony ether accedentily or porpusley caused to try to get people to buy PS5s.

Ok so I have a question so on fortnite or any game I play with my controller on my right stick it developed a new problem where it jitters up like if I barely tap the joystick it will jitter it’s way up how do I fix this problem?

I bought a new in box alpine green ps4 controller and within a few hours my left analog stick started to drift to the left. Even slightly touching the left side of the stick causes it to start spaz and shift to the left. No wonder they discontinued it.

Tried to clean mine but I have the new red camo and it doesn’t have the same analog sticks, they don’t pop out on the sides to clean contacts

i used to have my xbox one s in 2016 but gave it to my cousin in 2018 for the ps4, and the xbox controller that came with it lasted all 5 years with no stick drift at all

My controller doesnt turn on now, I dismembered the whole controller. The little clamp holding the cable fell off but I still put the cable in, even without the clamp.

6 have broken with 2018 Christmas... Ps4 controllers are actually ass, drifting, not responding, and more. I had one, I dropped it 3 inches from the ground (on carpet) and it started drifting then stopped working, 10 months later, I reset it and it turned on, I tried seeing if it would work on my ps4, it did not, none of the buttons responded, I tried connected it with Bluetooth, and It worked perfectly fine, any solutions for the buttons to respond to the ps4?

I have a 3 weeks old controller and when I play F1 game and turn left at some point the steering start to jump from left to right instead going smooth and I have 2 yrs old controller which has lots of wear and never had any problem with it

I just bought a brand new PS4 controller and it's having the movement issue. I can only walk instead of run. On occasion it'll run but immediately go back to walking no matter how hard I press forward or click down.
