Why do shark attacks happen and how common are they?

A series of shark attacks has some swimmers second-guessing if they want to hit the beach. Chris Fischer, founder and expedition leader of nonprofit OCEARCH, joins CBS News to explore why these attacks are happening.

It just takes one time. I grew up bodysurfing and surfing in California, back in the late 60’s into the early 80’s. In my lifetime, I’ve been in the ocean thousands of times, and have been lucky to never have had an encounter with a shark. Swimming in the ocean has its risks, similar to wandering around in the woods at night. The older I get, the more risk averse I become.
