When I first Knew about Banjo Kazooie, it was when the DLC trailer was out, then I watched it more and more about it and fell in love (not literally) with the Bear & Bird! As a Banjo-Kazooie fan/Geno supporter, I really loved this video a lot. People hate Banjo & Kazooie so much nowadays and I never understood why. This may be bit of an unpopular opinion, but I personally think gimmicks in Smash are overrated and I'm actually glad Banjo doesn't have one. His moveset makes him feel like he has always belonged, and I couldn't have asked for anything more.

@@tofudemaru Banjo needs to be very patient and attack when the opponent makes a mistake or be campy if Banjo can't find an opening. He's kinda like Sonic in a sense. In Banjo Tooie, boss fights are about running away from the bosses until they expose themselves. It also take about 6 mins to beat the Hag 1 in Banjo Tooie as well. Also Banjo's nair can sometimes damage characters on shield. One trick I discovered is that Banjo can edge guard with nair, and if Shockspring jump isn't enough he can use Wonderwing to make it back on stage. Comparing Banjo to most of the DLC characters is not a fair comparison, cause Banjo is the only DLC that is from a plat-former. It makes more sense to compare Banjo to say Peach, K Rool and Luigi.

Good video! Also got into Banjo due to the internet back in the day, and picked up and picked up an N64 almost exclusively to play Kazooie and Tooie. Same with Mario RPG. Sales stats really can't begin to describe some games' influence.

Very awesome video all things considered! Banjo is such a beloved character that I hate to see people saying he shouldn’t have been a fighter, every fighter has a reason why they are there. Sora is another one that’s super dear to me as he was a character I wanted for so long even though there was people who said he’d never get in and he was the most requested fighter yet people will still say he’s boring or that he didn’t deserve to get in.

Nice arguments, I especially like the one where you related how popularity can change with among us, and the game theory joke was actually funny (like, I laughed out loud 😆). I never even saw these arguments but I think they are annoying too but for VERY different reasons. I play pretty competitively with my brother and I don't understand why people think he's annoying to play as but I totally get why he is not fun to fight against. They can ledge guard, juggle you, and the golden feather move is op, despite its limited use. Don't get me wrong tho, the games that they come from are AMAZING (except for that go-cart "revival" 😒) and I don't hate the characters themselves for having an annoying move-set...so yah, that's my two cents 😁.(But yea, he definitely deserved his spot on the roster)

I’m really glad that they got into the game. I remember crying tears of joy when they first got revealed because they were my most requested characters and they’ve been my main since release. Their move-set is a bit unorthodox with how it fits into competitive play, but I’d say it allows room for a lot of creativity with their setups and combos which I absolutely adore. It’s like i’m fighting a boss from the original games and having to figure how to go about fighting against that character with the duo.

I have a bit of a response to this video since I have my fair share of the Bear and Bird growing up. I got into the series when it was introduced back in 1998; I was only 5 at the time. When I first play the games, I was amazed and happy I was and I grew a strong attachment to them nonstop until their buyout from Microsoft in 2002, considering them irrelevant in my eyes for the time. As I moved from Banjo-Kazooie, I grew more into other IPs from Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy, Persona, Doom, Minecraft, Fortnite, and more. So, when the day Banjo-Kazooie was introduced into Smash Ultimate, I was really shock that someone from the past came back and shook the world once again. Although, as I grew older, do I still have that attachment to these characters? Of course I do, that won't changed and I am glad there are younger fans seeing the majesty of these iconic characters, but...I also realize a lot of these fans are just mad that their certain character wasn't in smash, so they take it out on Banjo-Kazooie. Even in the competitive scene, I don't see much Banjos trying to optimize their toolkit but they are putting in the effort to make them work and be popular again. Another reason is that Banjo-Kazooie was put onto smash for the chance Rare MIGHT make the "missing third game: Banjo-Threeie" in the series (if we don't count Nuts n Bolts) but Rare recently announce "there isn't an audience to make the third game possible." Umm...YOU SURE ABOUT THAT, RARE?! Anyway, Do I think Banjo-Kazooie deserve the hate from Smash fans? Of course not but it really depends on how strong the fanbase are and how dedicated to the legacy of the bear and bird are. To me, they are iconic and deserving of their spot in smash but they aren't for me, TO ME. I do have better luck with my Isabelle and Joker due to my love of Animal Crossing and Persona 5, but Banjo-Kazooie are deserving of the spot, even if their time in the spotlight are over. As much as people can hate on Banjo, they are in since 2019 and they will never leave. We gotta learn to deal with it. Banjo is cool to many if you see him as relevant TO YOU!!! That's my 2 cents.

When I play Smash Ultimate with my irl Friends or Contacts, I always pick Banjo-Kazooie as my Main Fighter. It's also one of my favourites besides Samus and Meta Knight. I must say, this Fighter is balanced despite having all Iconic Moves from the Original BK Games (And the Fact, that they added almost all Abilities from that Duo into Smash - You can clearly see, how much passion the Devs put into it in order to make the BK Fans happy!). According to my Contacts, who aren't Gamers but played with me while visiting them... Banjo-Kazooie is a good Fighter for Beginners. But that's entirely New to hear, that the Smash Community are disliking them... (Okay probably because I'm not reading much in the Smash Community)

Banjo/kazooie are one of my mains and I'm happy about their moveset. Maybe people don't like them because they're not have fast combo moves like Mario for example, he can do a few up-air and connect with his up-special. Combos are the most epic things in fighting games.

So it’s not that the smash community hates Banjo, I and many others in the community have been requesting banjo for years, you can look at the reactions of popular smash content creators at the time with examples of Esam and Coney. But there are factors outside of them just being in smash that some don’t enjoy. 1. Move set and game feel - while banjo is very faithful to his games it feels as though it’s a good and a bad thing. His movement is very clunky in the air with some of the worst multi jump height for that kind of character in the game making it so his options in the air both defensively and offensively aren’t great. Along with that while his run speed is great with the use of Kazooie, his initial dash is really slow and clunky, so his movement while being faithful to the games is sorta not fun when brought into the genre of a platform fighter. Along with the weird feel of moving around with banjo his options feel very limiting, this is partly because I think the smash team was worried over how over-tuned a move like wonderwing is so most of his other options were made more underwhelming to compensate. For example no combos off grab, up tilt not hitting grounded opponents, eggs being neutralized really easily, up air not comboing or having hit-stun, neutral air having issues with its consistency compared to other similar moves, dash attack barely having any range. And with both of those combinations combined banjo when he gets a hit doesn’t really get to follow up off of it outside of some simple bread and butters, which makes him rely more on a nickel and dime zoning style which to a lot of people isn’t really that fun. So even people that wanted really badly to play banjo just felt disappointed that he wasn’t what they envisioned for the character. 2. Generational divide Frankly even though Banjo is very popular within Nintendo fans and the smash community from before ultimate, there is a generational divide in the popularity of the character, younger smash fans didn’t really grow up with banjo as a character so it’s understandable in them not being ecstatic for the character. The same way that those in smash community that are younger will dislike banjo, there was an equal dislike from the older generation with characters like Steve for example, while alot of younger players gravitate towards Steve since that’s the character they grew up with. 3. Every character including Banjo gets the same treatment as banjo. Because people on the internet are shitty. While not having the same complaints as Banjo every character receives some hate involving there inclusion. Sora for example had alot of people shitting on him saying he wasn’t deserving or hating his play style even even though he was the most requested character. Part of the reason Banjo and Sora can feel singled out is frankly because of their sizable fanbases with those characters taking up a lot of discussion when the dlc was being developed. And with this discussion frankly a lot of characters fanbases can be seen frankly as annoying, I remember with a lot of build up around e3 2019 there was a lot of hype for people about banjo, hero was announced at the start of the direct, and Nintendo of America twitter was hounded with Nintendo fans demanding Banjo. When a character has this much of a fan base it’s much easier to get a rise out of members of a community. Like is it cool to antagonize no but it’s just part of the internet Again there’s a lot of people that play smash and love banjo in the community he’s just kinda disappointing to play for a lot of people who’ve waited for so long, and a lot of discourse around the character is typically bad faith arguments trying to get a rise out of people.

Don’t even get me started on grenegg 😂 Ive put over 1000 hours into Banjo alone. I love the character. I think he’s underrated and he is a top 20-30 character 🤷

I never played Banjo-Kazooie but they fit right into Smash and I was more hype for them than any of the other Ultimate newcomers or DLC fighters aside from Ridley, K. Rool, the Belmonts and Sephiroth. People hating on them saying they don't deserve a spot just seems to me like taking out their frustration with how they play in Smash, which is a fair complaint honestly. Being a Bowser Jr. main, Rear Egg feels extremely obnoxious because it's very similar to Jr's Mechakoopa but better in pretty much every way. It coming out so fast, immediately being active and the space it covers makes it very difficult to get past as a defensive wall type projectile. That's just a balance issue though and it's absurd to say they don't belong on the roster when we have characters like Wii Fit Trainer, Game & Watch and Duck Hunt in the game not getting nearly the same amount of hate.

This possible hatred of old characters getting in before newer characters when there's actually a pretty good balance of eras and consoles represented so far makes me fear what would happen to a game like Nasb and Nasb2 if they were more popular, given the blatant 80-90s nostalgia they got, it's so bad there's only 2 characters from the 2010's and one of them is Korra Though maybe that's an issue with Nick themselves and how they killed everything and anything that didn't bring in immediate spongeBob success and thus that's a forgotten era/Viacom goes out of its way to ignore it idk

Alright, I definitely don't speak for the entirety of the competitive scene, but as a competitive player, I think a bit of the argument was misconstrued. I don't think most people think that Banjo and Kazooie is a wasted slot, rather that they could've been more than what they are in their current form in smash. I say this as someone who adores Banjo and Kazooie and nearly cried at their reveal trailer. Their animations are excellent and extremely fluid, their stage and music choices are on point, but I do take issue on how he is played. He is almost designed to play campily which isn't what I'd attribute Banjo and Kazooie to being as a character. While the moveset is faithful to a lot of moves from Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, I don't think a platformer character should have some of the worst movement stats in the game, and instead should be focusing more on combos rather than keeping their opponent out. Also, a few of the moves that Banjo has stands out as very unoriginal such as his Neutral Air (just a ripoff of Ivysaur's and Piranha Plant's), his Forward Air (very similar in nature to Mario's), his up tilt (which is just snake's but worse). Personally, I'd suggest a change to his movesets like making his neutral air him swinging his backpack, while making his forward air rat-a-tat instead of his back air to fit more in line with his games, as well as changing his up tilt from the kick to an uppercut that then combos into his up air (I'd also imagine this would be buffed as well to have less end lag so it can combo into itself for more damage), and making his back air something like the Beak Barge where it is a strong long range attack to compensate for his back air being removed. I'd also make his movement stats better, particularly in the air to sort of match the platformer vibe he had. I think this would not only make Banjo and Kazooie better overall but also promote a more aggressive playstyle more similar to how he plays in his games in contrast to the campy one he is shown to have in Ultimate. But, hey, that's just my opinion, sorry for the very long comment but I just felt like Banjo could be so much more :)

@@orangeslash1667my main use for WW is to get back to stage safely. Its a free recovery tool. His NAIR is better than people think. If you catch someones jump with it then you can combo it into up air. I love Banjo and his custom combos. When a grenegg hits someone you can make any combo you want. Also the eggs is great at gimping characters off stage 😂

I’ve honestly never really agreed with the people who want Banjo & Kazooie cut from the game, although I can at least understand why, but also a lot of people wanted him in the game and it made them really happy so it was worth it. Honestly it makes more sense to cut Min Min & Pyra/Mythra from the game that way Dante & Dr. Eggman could replace them, they’re both way more deserving and they could still have a unique DLC gimmick, also I think Richter could’ve easily been an alt skin for Simon because they’re practically the same moveset wise, and he’s the least unique echo fighter in the entire game, that way we could’ve gotten Shadow as a semi echo for Sonic. We could’ve gotten two new Sonic characters & Dante just by cutting a few characters although Richter wouldn’t even be really cut from the game because you could access him as an alt skin for Simon, how cool would that have been? You could make a case to cut Byleth as well, but honestly Min Min’s & Pyra/Mythra’s inclusions are debatably even worse because I feel like they’re the two characters that deserved a DLC spot the least out of all the characters that were included, more so than even Byleth’s inclusion. Could you imagine how cool the reveal trailer for Shadow would’ve been if he was revealed as the last echo fighter to be included for the base roster? Also having the end of his reveal trailer saying the Ultimate lifeform in the Ultimate Smash game would’ve been the cherry on top. Especially since the 3rd party echo fighters were the only echo fighters that got a cool reveal trailer like Ken and then when Richter appeared for Simon’s reveal trailer? After just saying that you can probably start to see why Richter would’ve made more sense as an alt skin for Simon. Also which Fighters Pass 2 roster looks better? This? 1. Min Min 2. Steve 3. Sephiroth 4. Pyra/Mythra 5. Kazuya 6. Sora Or This? 1. Dante 2. Steve 3. Sephiroth 4. Kazuya 5. Dr. Eggman 6. Sora Or maybe cut Kazuya because it seems a little weird to have Dante & Kazuya in the same Fighters Pass so maybe it could go like this: Fighters Pass 2: 1. Dante 2. Steve 3. Sephiroth 4. I was so annoyed that some people hated banjo simply because they had never played his game but then mained characters of games they also have not even played and said “i don’t have to play the game to main them” then why can you hate a character when you’ve never played the game? From what I see, most people only hate playing against Banjo, because yeah he can be annoying. But, in general, he's seen in a very positive light. Being a zoomer myself (keep this in mind before you read this), I think these complainers on Twitter are zoomers that weren't around when the BK games were popular and don't really understand how important they are to Nintendo history. Ya know, the thing that Smash was originally created to celebrate. Banjo and Kazooie were considered important enough to be advertised on the level of Mario and Zelda back during the 64 era. These guys are important to Nintendo history. Honestly, they're a bigger part of Nintendo history than some Nintendo characters like Pit and Ness. Also, the Smash devs seem to know the difference between an "artificially popular character" through the internet and memes and such (like Waluigi) and a character who genuinely has enough popularity to warrant representation. Who do these people think is more deserving of a spot over Banjo and Kazooie? Waluigi? No. Shantae? No. Bandana Dee? No.

I've been playing Smash Bros since the beginning, and I wanted Banjo-Kazooie in the game for 20 years because back then they literally WERE Nintendo characters. When Rare was sold to Microsoft, Nintendo exchanged the Banjo-Kazooie IP (which they owned) in for the Donkey Kong characters Rare had created (which Rare owned). Basically, this prevented a Geno situation from happening with the Donkey Kong IP, but Banjo-Kazooie was the cost. Anyone of a certain age probably thinks of Banjo-Kazooie as a Nintendo franchise and a lost piece of Nintendo's history missing from Smash Bros.

After seeing Steve moveset, I think Banjo was done dirty compared to him as far as Microsoft reps go (Must be the "First rep of your franchise/company" syndrome). Personally, I was more on the camp that Master Chief would get in as the 1st Microsoft rep, because he is their mascot, he is still very popular and still relevant. And was against Steve, because he is too recent, feels like a fad and has not much video game history or even more games, and therefore doesn't deserve a spot in Smash (I kinda feels the same way toward Bayonetta too. Joker gets a pass, because his franchise is old, has LOTS of games and has video game history).

TLDR: Boring and innefective specials. His game plan is kind of a nothing burger because his specials don't meld together cohesively whatsoever. I just personally don't enjoy playing Banjo regardless of if it's Casual or Competitive because of this. Their specials are my only gripe with the duo. Why does a whacky cartoon bear and bird get a grenade that is hard to work with, a neutral special with combo potential that is both frame perfect and does the same as two to three combo strings. And a generic and vulnerable up b only having utility as a recovery option, and only a recovery option. Nothing else. Side b is cool, he kind of needs that level of cheese considering how tasteless and suboptimal his other options are. Down and neutral b kind of just results in everyone trying to camp with him. Which do to his movement being slowed down while holding Kazooie, is pretty easy to get around even for some slower characters. Down B being either only a wall, or a predictable throw forward is kind of rough as well. Down B having a bigger timer might have resulted in it being a pretty neat utility tool like Snakes grenades or Diddy's banana. But I guess they thought full invincibility is broken, so having a genuinely useful and flexible tool to mess with would have been too much to handle? Idk.

In Banjo Tooie, boss fights are about running away from the bosses until they expose themselves. It also take about 6 mins to beat the Hag 1 in Banjo Tooie as well. Also Banjo's nair can sometimes damage characters on shield. One trick I discovered is that Banjo can edge guard with nair, and if Shockspring jump isn't enough he can use Wonderwing to make it back on stage. What makes Banjo standout is that he has both a Wondering and bury. You know K Rool and R.O.B have a bury down B, Banjo can do the same thing. If Banjo can't killing with wondering, he can bury them whiling killing them with an up tilt. Breegul Blaster is great for pressuring the opponent preventing them from approaching. If you're really talented you can use Breegul Blaster to send them into the air and immediately use up tilt to kill them.

I mainly recover with WW to not get edge guarded, also the greneggs is more than a wall or “predictable forwards throw. Sometimes I intentionally throw the egg in the opposite direction, or jump and throw it to catch their jumps. Then get the opponent confused on what ima do next. Up B isnt great but with 3 jumps and WW you can pretty much recover from anywhere. Neutral B is great for gimping opponents off stage. I rarely bring out neutral special, will do it once or twice a match to surprise opponents. Also on ledge popping off a grenegg will force an opponent to back up and you can safely get back on stage. BAIR is great at forcing techs off stage, and D-tilt is severely underrated. Im not the best banjo in the world but my banjo is pretty damn good. I wish a top player would pick him up. I think his ceiling is super high.

I understand yeah banjo also got a lot of hate before getting confirmed as well due to the minecraft steve fans because these steve fans thought they would be the Microsoft pick. Lots of people wanted master chief Dante doomslayer and seeing that characters like banjo terry pyra mythra minmin sora getting picked over them does get people mad because they never heard of them nor played their games. Some were disappointed with the move set and I've seen people's different interpretations of banjo even in brawl mods. I even thought banjo deserved to be a main roster character instead of dlc when I talked with friends because how his moveset was. No matter what some characters are going to be hated no matter what they have because it's not their characters added. Despite that I'm glad he's in smash always fun to play casually. Though competitive players want a character that can be a easy win or dominate the tournaments. Tldr: the smash community when it comes what characters to be added to the game can be very toxic.

Anyone who thinks Smash is a good fit for a highly competitive game with a fully balanced roster is disillusioned and shouldn't be left anywhere near a game design job ever. Smash isn't and cannot be a fully balanced game, and that's fine. Brawlhalla or Rivals of Aether are much better examples of attempts at making a good highly-competitive smash-like game. As for short-lived : only because of Nintendo. There was never a doubt that Nintendo killed Banjo by selling Rare. I mean, I don't think that greenlighting the third Banjo game even took a lot of effort (at least while Nintendo did own Rare) and had it been given the chance to continue alongside Nintendo, it could have become as influential and popular a mascot as Mario and Sonic themselves.

Just like the Pokemon community who doesn't stop complaint like a cry baby about the Pokemon new game who are bad games by claim those last games suffer somes graphics issue, story and gameplay too short and too easy and somes lags and glitch issue but still want more new game for just complaint about the same thing the next year instead complaint there is too much Pokemon games on the Switch.
