#AskEck what is your opinion on the rule of two? Was it more effective than the old Sith doctrine, or did it lead to their downfall?

In my oppinion, it did both. They couldnt have an army to use in combat, but they also could hide better

I feel like palps broke away from the rule of two as soon as he started working on dooku (after that he had already decided on Anakin). The rule of two dictates that you teach your apprentice everything you know, and plageuis was the last Sith Master to actually do that. Perhaps the eventual Failure of palps is irony. He thought he was better than the rule of two, and that was his eventual downfall

I think Lucas wanted to play with Finnish suffix -inen, like Tolkien did. It can be used for surnames, placenames, nouns, adjectives, origin of people etc. For example, if you have "sade" - which means "rain" - and add '-inen' to it, it becomes "sateinen", which means "rainy". Tolkien used "-nen" for instrumental in Quenya.

#askeck There has been one thing that has always puzzled me when I look at the Star Wars galaxy map. In episode I, everyone takes off on the Nubian from Naboo wants to go to Coruscant. Not having enough hyperdrive matter to get there they say they have to stop on Tatooine, but even considering hyperspace lanes, Tatooine is not even close to being along the way to Coruscant. Surely there were other choices along the way where they wouldn’t have been noticed? I understand that they wanted to be incognito and all but surely there were better choices along a more direct route to Coruscant? Thanks in an advance to anyone that can enlighten me to the answer.
@iflyxwings6 жыл бұрын
Tatooine is along the way. There's a major hyperspace lane that runs near Tatooine all the way to Coruscant. One of the most important lanes probably so you can imagine it's quite busy. Naboo to Tatooine is a smaller hyperspace route. So they traveled with the intention of going Naboo - > major hyperspace lane - > Coruscant. When they approached that major lane they encountered the problems in the film and chose to put down on Tatooine for the reasons stated in the film. Primarily that it's not controlled by the Republic . And that's probably the real kicker. You can travel directly on the route from Naboo to Coruscant, but it's all Republic space and it's the most direct route.

I wonder if "-ooine" is meant to designate the terminus of an old trade route. Tatooine is described as a galactic backwater, but we know that at least as late as the Cold War, it was considered a world of at least enough significance for the Republic and Sith Empire to contest it. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Dantooine is considered "remote", but at least as late as the Great Galactic War, it was an important world to the Jedi, and in fact, "The Essential Atlas" identifies it as the endpoint of the Myto's Arrow trade route. Klatooine is at or near the terminus of the Kessel Run. Cardooine and Minntooine were remote enough to be used for the construction of important, clandestinely developed spacecraft for the Rebel Alliance and CIS, respectively, yet clearly were also historically trade worlds, judging by the use of wood from Cardooine in the Imperial Palace and the presence of the Commerce Guild on Minntooine. Basically, the common denominator is that these worlds are connected to galactic civilization but exist at its farthest-flung reaches. I think "-ooine" means "end of the line", in some language or another.

Maybe the best theory about -ooine would be that it comes from a combination of the other theories: Maybe since Tatooine was the first to be incorporated into the Republic, the Republic adopted the Jawa name for the planet. But then, later on, they discovered Tatooine used to be a Rakatan world, and that there were other former Rakatan worlds out there which the Republic had decided to colonize. So from then on out, the Republic started using the Jawa "-ooine" suffix for every former Rakatan world that joined the Republic. Works for me!

@robertagu55336 жыл бұрын
Real world evidence suggests a mix of both mixed with a couple other franchises. Space travel currently looks realisticly like a sorta time and space Warp type drive to very quickly travel huge intergalactic distances in extremely short even instant time. While alot the weapons and gear are shaping out to be evolved things we have now. Like Mass Effect rail weapons or maybe Blasters and we even have a working idea of how a real life Lightsaber would/will probably have to work to feasibly exist in real life.

Stephen Lutz The most likely methods of achieving FTL travel, within our current understanding and projections of technological progress, are either the Alcubierre equation or Einstein-Rosen Bridges, which operate similarly to the “Warp Drives” from Star Trek and the “Space-bridges” from Transformers, respectively. But, the Alcubierre Drive would realistically be more feasible as, even though the energy requirements are immense, they would be minuscule in comparison to not only tearing a hole in the fabric of space/time, but keeping that hole open and anchored at two spots. Another thing to take into account is that the time to actually traverse the distances between stars would still likely be incredibly long, even with these methods of FTL travel. Moreover, the time between departure and arrival would be relative due to time dilation, especially in the case of the Einstein-Rosen Bridge because, while the trip may be almost instantaneous for the subject traveling through the wormhole, quantum tunneling/entanglement and various other shenanigans can change just how much time actually passes outside of the wormhole.
@self-satisfiedsmirk55446 жыл бұрын
Stephen Lutz Some form of stasis would still be necessary, especially during the beginning of humanity’s expansion beyond our planet of origin. If you want to get into warfare, especially space warfare, it would be more akin to Ender’s Game. Most battles would be fought well beyond visual range at distances of tens, if not hundreds, of kilometers apart. Technology is continually advancing, and the only real limiting factor of most military hardware is the human element. This has been documented already with ever advancing manned fighter jets, and with the even greater number of factors to take into account when navigating and fighting in a three-dimensional field, the notion of mostly automated fleets that use drone fighter craft, if they would even be necessary in this world, is not far-fetched.

Ord is short for ordinance. It means that the planet was originally settled by the Old Republic military (mainly navy) as a ordinance depot. Eventually the front lines or military priorities would shift and the military would abandon the outpost, leaving behind a large number of warehouses and buildings just sitting ready for habitation. Obviously this is a huge jump on colonization and many worlds were picked for colonization just because of a ready-made infrastructure. The source for this is the Star Wars role-playing game-especially the Worlds of the Galaxy Sourcebooks- I believe it is in the second one.
