Those are doors opened to stories, games and RP, and that's why SW is the perfect breeding ground for expanded content (well, except 40k/Rogue Trader maybe, but let's face it there's not really much to do except purging xenos/heretics from 6/8 species maximum)

To be honest I couldn't care less about anything related to the new canon. Part of why your videos have been so entertaining is that they focus mostly on Legends material. I know you'll get to this in the finale of the Vong sub-series. Won't stop me from going through the motions though. Anyways: Can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the entire franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!* I have made this request: Seventy-nine times.

I like the EU definition more. Wild Space sounds more like a mapped out, yet dangerous area, while the Unknown Regions have "unknown" in their name.
@michaelramon24116 жыл бұрын
Given that the First Order, the cornerstone of the Sequel Trilogy, are based in the Unknown Regions, I think it makes sense for it to be more of a specific geographic location, with Wild Space functioning as a catch-all term for "anywhere that is lightly or unsettled." "The Unknown Regions", when capitalized, sounds like an official term for a specific set of regions, while "Wild Space" sounds like a casual term for anywhere outside of the level of civilization that even places like Tatooine have. Sort of like calling a place "No Man's Land."
@JJSogaard4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, somehow it would have felt weird to read or hear that the Imperial Remnants/First Order "retreated to Wild Space". On the other hand it's also kinda weird that the Unknown Regions are kinda a bit known. But that name was probably from a time when it really was completely unknown, which then changed.
@zakiducky6 жыл бұрын
It looks like Kessel was moved a little bit, too- from sorta Mid to Outer Rim (depending on which source’s map you looked at in Legends) to solidly Wild Space in the new canon. Also, the pyramidal ship in the Mortis episodes looks A LOT like the ships that gathered the first generation of Je’ Daaii in the EU Old Republic.
@IrishPhoenix76 жыл бұрын
I think the unknown regions will remain at least mostly unknown and I feel like wild space will have some kind of role in the up coming movie, like that might be where some of the resistance allies are or where the resistance will be hiding out from the first order.

Given the speed of hyperdrive, and the age of galactic civilization, I think it makes more sense to make the Unknown Regions the areas of the galactic halo that fall outside the main galactic disc. They would be "unknown" to most people, rarely traveled, but the broad strokes, like positions of major stars, etc. could be known. The Chis Ascendancy could be a major power on one side. Even the name fits this better, since "Unknown Regions" implies more than one region is unknown. Wild Space, meanwhile, would be those places that no-one has gone before, hiding who knows what (for those people like you who quite enjoyed the crazier pieces of Star Wars). Like a lost Tribe of Sith, fleeing the Great Hyperspace War. Or the Rakatan homeworld, Lehon. Or (and this would be really wild), the twisted, rusted wreck of the Battlestar Galactica (or similar ship) that is the last legacy of an ancient humanoid civilization that built AIs, and got nearly exterminated by their own creation; their survivors' tales of a genocidal 'droid' rebellion, passed down through countless generations, would neatly explain the Mos Eisley bartender's dislike toward droids.

Great video, as always. Quite interesting about how the areas for the unknown regions are defined differently to how quite a lot of people think of it. I have two things to point out that could make future videos better. Firstly, that little textbox that says what music is playing in the background was partly covering up the web address for your Audible free trial sponsorship. Secondly, that occasional bit of electrical snow or static that flashes across the screen at 0:40 and 2:42 is a little bit annoying and I don't see what purpose it serves. Hope this feedback is helpful.

The one thing about these areas of the SW galaxy that I think of is, it would make for a good catalyst in the sequel, EP. IX. I see the onset for the rebel's retreat would take them into the unknown regions, allowing them to find and secure a safe place. This would be far enough away from the 1st order to regroup and rebuild, having only minimal contact with the known regions to minimize discovery and maintain intelligence. Then, some years later, they come out of the region with a new attack plan and resources that finally sweep the 1st order out...
@MrAranton6 жыл бұрын
"Unknown" = never properly explored and "wild space" = surveyed but not part of the Republic/Empire makes a lot more sense than "unknown" = a patch of space with known borders and uncertain interior and "wild space" = space the Republic/Empire knows jack-shit about. Of course you could justify either pair by introduction some idiosyncracies into Star Wars basic; but why change a perfectly good and established definition and replace it with something that means pretty much the opposite? That's a lot of needless confusion.

I mean to say that apparently when traveling in hyperspace you still effect things in the normal dimension now, does that mean, as one can easily conclude, your just going really fast now...Thoughts? And yes its sad that that is actually a question.

Disney could bring the Vong back out of Wild Space in cannon. Although I'd prefer if we just get a legends continuity film after the ST ends. An imperial remnant trilogy with Thrawn as the emerging anti hero in the first two films (but he is only in one scene in the first film). Thrawn takes over the Imperial Remnant at the end of thfe third one and is the strategic leader of the Empire in the first. In this trilogy we could see Luke's new Jedi order, the new values of this order, Luke falling in love with Jade, Han and Leia on an adventure, Chewbacca back in action for some scenes, infighting within the first two films amongst the Empire, the New Republic getting stronger, new elite imperial infantry units (a new version of dark troopers), and some dark Jedi whose leaders were secretly trained by Palpatine making their own cult that attacks the Jedi during the Second and Third films. Most of this dark order is wiped out or captured in the second film (including their leaders) But, a few of the survivors team up with Thrawn in the third film.

Personally I am unsure on the change. I made and run a custom Star Wars D20 game center in "Wild Space". Story mainly revolves around a collection of hidden or out of the way worlds & their fight to repel the Empire. It's sad my hard work to make lore friendly custom game lore no longer works with cannon. But what does anymore with so many change happening.
@rodneykelly87686 жыл бұрын
I would handle the “Unknown Regions” as follows, “Picture all the pain and strife that the galaxy has been through, in the Unknown Regions waits something that is far worse.” A cosmic horror concept would work here, but not Lovecraft’s giant squid monsters, they’ve been overdone. No humanoids either. An advisory that the protagonists can quite understand, let alone fight. Something akin to Halo’s flood.

I always interpreted Wild Space as basically the Star Wars version of the Wild West. Killers and pirates everywhere, the Republic and Empire were meaningless in Wild Space. Strange alien empires or uncontacted peoples who were inherently hostile and difficult to understand. Basically Wild Space is the place someone goes if they want to disappear or hide from the greater Galaxy.

Given the way Star Wars has been handled or I should say mishandled as of late, I think it's best that the unknown regions and wild space should remain a bit of a mystery because they'd ruin it.
