Here's an idea, if you're going to do an educational video on what Misophonia is... don't use all the trigger noises that people suffer from in it. I almost threw my remote control at the T.V.
@RosheenQuynh8 жыл бұрын
Couldn't literally any sound do that, though? D: Also... are you okay now?
@KilmaTempa8 жыл бұрын
No, not every sound. And if you look at how some people COPE with misophona, you'll notice music and even watching t.v. shows while eating dinner or having them on in the background can HELP that person become distracted from those triggers. But hearing their triggers repeatedly, one after another... no so great.

+Klima Tempa Agreed. It's kind of like making a video to help people with phobias... and including pictures of all those phobias. I used to work with a guy who was so freaking terrified of spiders, that one shift when he found a picture of a spider in a magazine article [on phobias, of course] he insisted that I *rip the page out of the magazine, tear it up, and flush it down the toilet*. Seriously!

Misophonia is something we need to take seriously! (Not that this video wasn't, it was very informative!) Most people think "Oh hey, I hate the sound of people chewing." or "I don't like the way you slurp soup!" But misophoniacs are way beyond this level. I know that, at least for me, the sound of my mother putting the dishes into the dishwasher, the sound my friends make when they breathe too heavy, the way styrofoam squeaks, or ANY sound you can make with your body drives me to the point where I consider that being deaf is better. I hate thinking that, but it's kind of difficult when you can't eat dinner with your family or take a test without earbuds. Now, I could list all the possible triggers that I or anyone with Misophonia has, but what good is that? People will still make those noises. All I'm saying is that Misophonia is real. It exists. We need to find some kind of treatment and meanwhile cope with what is happening. xx (:

A nice informative video on misophonia, but as a sufferer I'm not happy all the sounds were added. I had to hit mute several times just to make it through. So, Im a misophonia sufferer and I'm only 11. I started symptoms of it when I just turned 10. I usually sat by myself in an empty room and ate by myself. When my family got together over the summer, we always ate, four people at a small table, no talking, just eating noodles that make that horrid sound that made me scream. One night, I was there, sitting, nothing to stop me for feeling that hatred. I snapped and screamed at everyone and started pulling on my hair. My grandfather would tell me, "why dont you deal with a constant ring in your ear" and my grandmom "just deal with it, dont listen to it" and they hod no sh**ting clue, I would tell them "i cant ignore it" "if no one is talking, even when people are talking, its just terrible" "I cant ignore it" and I was told to leave and I barely ate. I got to school after a week of the bad arguement. The first day and this girl kept sniffing, not even blowing her nose, just sniffing, for an hour. I was punching my desk, trying to tell her to stop, but didn't care. I yelled out "CAN I GO TO THE BATHROOM?!" and i rushed out and banged the wall. I walked to the bathroom and this girl was there. Everything was echoey. The rest that day happened and I didnt rage. I then started to hate when people swallowed then let out a breath. So like *swallow* *a little pop when the saliva goes down* *uhh..* *that little noise when you let out a breath without using your mouth* GRGRGRGGRG!! Anywayyys. My middle school years started. We had gotten to the lunchroom and no one was talking. I sat down. This girl opened her potato chip bag. Then she grabbed a chip out. My mind "f**k" she started chewing and eating it really slow. I mouthed to myself "this will never end" and I was sent to get detention. I started panicing and crying. I told my guidance counsiler what condition I have and why I was sent there. I was taken off the detention list and put in a seat by myself away from everyone else and I sat with my friend who was too scared to eat after what happend. Then, my mom got a new bf and he chewed horrid. He said "I can fix your chewing with my tapping therapy" I said "you can't. Trust me." and after watching this and studing, complaining and realising how sh*t my life is, I know nothing can fix this. Any suggestions besides earplugs, medicine, therapy or tapping?

When an adult male giggles loudly like a 3 year old girl being tickled for more than five minutes, that's enough to set me off into an uncontrollable rare ( on more than one occassion ). I definitely have misophonia. I especially hate any sound made with the mouth. Although it might be a package deal with my Asperger's Syndrome. Whenever I hear someone smacking their lips, kissing, or chewing, I have an intense desire to run the f*** away from that person. It feels like a meltdown, but I'm not sure if they're the same thing because usually meltdowns are caused by an overabundance of sensory stimuli while I can freak out by the sound of chewing even if there's no other sensory stimuli.

I used to throw terrible temper tantrums because my mom was breathing too loud, blinking too slow, or I didnt like the way she pronounced words. The tantrums were so bad I used to slam things against the wall and get really hot and shakey that I would send myself into a panic attack. Now im just rude to people and roll my eyes or get really hot when the noises bother me. I wish people would just understand. I hate it when I explain to people that I don't like a certain noise, AND THEN THEY PROCEDE TO DO IT ON PURPOSE TO SEE HOW MAD IT GETS ME. Like "can you please stop clicking your pen?" I am 52, I suffer of this condition since age 10 and I have an explanation for my case. I had a deficient relation with my mother (she gave me no affection, although she loved me ....in her style). And when she was heating her meal, she was very focused on her food, in a manner that made me feel that the eats were more important to her than me, her son. And hence, inside me, all her chewing and slurping sounds became converted into an immense hate and rage. Moreover, she was an apple eater, the apple biting sounds is horrendous. My job nowadays in an office together with 4 persons which chew, drink, slurp, eat apples. Fortunately the toilet and a scanner outside on a hall is a good pretext to live the office. But I would take easier a 7M earthquake than this apple eating.

I HATE it when people play music outside and their bass from cars/speaker resonates. I also dislike high pitched frequencies. Overall, I'm mostly bothered by these frequencies when I'm within my own home and I can't escape it. If I'm out in public, I can tolerate it somewhat. My heart rate will skyrocket and I will blow up if I don't leave my house. Thankfully I'm not bothered by chewing, and more everyday sounds. But rumbling bass from music? Oh you're just asking to be disemboweled.

Most metal sounds prevent me from being able to speak and make me panic and feel pain a ton... If someone bites a fork while they eat they cause me pain and fear :/

I cannot STAND the sound of paper. Pencils on paper, paper being folded, scratched, crumpled... ugh, I hate even thinking about it.

for me the worst is : sniffing because it's so common, so easy to hear in modern trains, and people who do that do it so often and seems to be so selfish and uneducated...

I got 25 seconds into this video before I had to stop it. WHY DO PEOPLE PUT TRIGGER SOUNDS IN VIDEOS ABOUT MISOPHONIA. IT MAKES NO SENSE AND IS SUPER INSENSITIVE ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS: PEOPLE WITH MISOPHONIA. UGH.

I used too be on medication for ADD which made it impossible for me to not focus on what was going on around me. I think this may have contributed to my development of Misophonia. What age was it that you were started in Prozac?

Same! Mine started after Prozac.

From what I recall Prozac suppresses receptors (5ht2a is all I can remember) by stimulating them to death. Basically it's like trimming a few problematic receptors by over-excitement. The excitotoxic affect may have been what caused it. Maybe a consultation with a psychiatrist would help find some help. I was fortunate to be given escitalorpram which is just a 5ht1a agonist and probably has less side effects than Prozac.

I have all of these aversions! Slurping, smacking, chewing, breathing, snoring, snorting, spitting, swallowing, coughing/hacking, heaving, excessive throat clearing, nose blowing, etc. Anything to do with snot, saliva, or phlegm disgusts me. And it's bc I grew up with gross, fat parents and grandparents. All authoritarian assholes which caused me to align the noises they make with such vehement hate & anger, that I have to leave the room or raise the volume of something else to tolerate these noises from the kindest ppl. I've kicked family & friends out of a room, bc I can't stand it. Nails on a chalkboard does nothing for me. Yeah it's annoying, but it's not disgusting or enraging. I had no idea there was a word for this, but now it makes sense.

It certainly makes me hate my job...... I live alone and will forever. Try it out :) I have noise cancelling curtains and blankets on my walls in order to keep my room nice and quiet. I am sick of telling people to STFU, I will just live alone rather than get so fucking irritated with someone that I want to kill them.

ptanyuh But I'm just 16 right now I still live at home with my family and I don't want to live alone. I want to have a family when I'm older

Oh, that's unfortunate. I thought the same thing when I was your age, but after two long-term, failed relationships, I have learned (by 39) that I am not relationship material, and this is only one reason. Good luck to you, I hope you find a way to deal with this disorder--it was turning me into a bitter, angry, irritable person and I don't want to be that person ever again. Unfortunately, it is those closest to us that drive us the most crazy :(

I'm not sure if i have misophonia caused i can handle some of this sounds. But when I hear water droplets in a quiet place, or tick tick sounds, doors slowly banging by the wind, and some repetitive sounds, sounds produce by electric fans like tick, then after another 90 degrees spin, and i heard that tick sound again, my head may burst. Is it misophonia?

+DoughnutTypeWhenYourMouthIsFull I'm not sure off the top of my head, but I have a similar aversion to clocks and other rhythmic noise. I'll look into it! If it's a different thing, maybe we can do an episode about it. Thanks for watching! /Lauren, Your Friendly Neighborhood Channel Manager

+BrainStuff - HowStuffWorks Thanks for the reply :). I guess I'm just a sensitive guy. Also sounds coming from a talking barbie doll and toy phones? Or televisions when the channel is being changed. Then music that stops and resumes then stops repeatedly?

If got angry and upset about it u feel like you want just kill every body to just be quiet, and give them an angry look , you start to hate pepole then u hate yourself after a while and triggers like : sniffing, chewing, any sound more than once .... ,it's just the most annoying thing that happen in my life
