Dammit. I clicked on this thinking it was "Why Do We Crap?". The search for answers continues.
@holdenroberts69738 жыл бұрын
We crap because a: there is leftover waste from our digestive system. Also b: it's one of our body's ways of getting rid of harmful bacteria. A large portion of crap is actually harmful bacteria. And while we do have more secure ways in our body of getting rid of germs, crapping is the best way of getting rid of as many as possible all once. Expelling toxins and harmful microorganisms can happen through our skin and urine as well, and they do so pretty good, but neither of these methods can do it with the same efficiency. And waste is inevitable from our digestive tract, until we switch to eating only pure nutrient tablets and getting rid of all potential harmful bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms, crapping will always be a big part of our lives.
@codymitchell26727 жыл бұрын
Holden Roberts, and we clap because we're happy or because we're supposed to. See how the answer alone is different from a vsauce video?
@aryajpegasus7 жыл бұрын
IDontBelieveInPenises Waste literally means non useful stuff, so no point in burdening ourselves to say "non-useful waste". Also, Every food does has some waste. Read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biomagnification And, Hypothetically, if you did eat pure nutrients with zero harmful bacteria and stuff, no, you would not shit. Just try eating only fruits for a week, you will notice how considerably less often you shit by the end.

I remember feeling great anxiety being in crowds watching a play that I didn't like or what ever and LOVED it when we were expected to clap because it allowed me to burn off that negative bored and anxious energy. Not to mention that my hands were all cold and it helped bring the circulation back, that's what happens when I get anxious my hands get cold.

"A spilling over of feeling, unfiltered by language" - v sauce I worked at a kindergarten and on the rare occasion you'd show the class something they truly found amazing they'd all clap hysterically. The quote above is apt because no one taught these kids to clap yet they all did it in synchronicity and with pure unfiltered joy. Definitely something hard wired I our brains. Those moments are awesome

I think the reason why clapping has become popular as a way of expressing approval and enthusiasm for a performance is because it doesn't interfere with itself and doesn't carry any secondary messages, and also doesn't hurt as much to do to excess. If people chant, they need to carefully focus on staying in tune while simultaneously keeping up the volume, and if a moderate amount of background noise is present or the message isn't coordinated the words become garbled. Clapping on the other hand just becomes louder the more people do it and the more enthusiasm they do it with, no matter how uncoordinated the group is. Similarly, if 10,000 people like a video, it is clearly being shown more approval than a smaller number, even if none of the individual likers coordinate in any way. More likes is just a louder clap, and to extend the analogy further comments can be viewed like the excited hoots and fanmade signs (and occasional boos), distinct from the clapping but still adding to the applause. Of course, comments are even better because they can actually share ideas on the subject, and because of the separating power of computers the individual voices can be heard separately and understood rather than being muddled or lost in the noise.

This reminds me of one time when I was at lunch in middle school, a group of kids started clapping for no reason (I think as a social experiment) and everyone in the cafeteria started clapping. I was on the other side of the cafeteria so no one at my table knew what was going on but everyone around us was looking around confused and clapping so we did the same thing. It was really funny lol. Idk of it was because we where all 12-14 and really wanted to fit in or if it was part of that group mentality, but it was probably that latter because adults where also doing it.

the first instinctive reason for clapping makes a lot of sense actually, I feel awkward clapping in a crowd, but if I watch/see/hear something really funny and well executed I laugh of course, but I just clap at it too... the tendency to 'clap like a retarded seal' when laughing beyond vocalization also fits
@TBIRDsnare10 жыл бұрын
Then again, that's probably just a natural response based on what you're used to. You're whole life your brain has been wired to clap when you think something is good, or even just when something is over. It's become natural
@mksabourinable10 жыл бұрын
***** I don't do it when it's finished, the funny/surprising moment can happen anywhere in it, and I'll clap and laugh to it then, not at the end.

Okay, well, it still applies. You've been trained to clap when you think something is good, Pavlovian style. I don't know, I'm usually a nurture over nature guy, but he brings up some pretty good points in the video, and someone had to be the first to clap.
@davehooper64813 жыл бұрын
I have an old video from a music festival in Austin TX where there was some outdoor restaurants. Music was playing over a loud speaker but there was no band playing, it was just a recording. Everyone knew that because it was an old Janis Joplin song so there was no applause from anyone when the song ended. A little girl and 3 to 4 years old, who wasn't even the focus of the camera, didn't realize the music wasn't live or just hadn't yet understood when to applaud. Well the song ended and she clapped just a few times before quickly stopping and looking around at everyone. Her shoulders slumped and her hands dropped almost disappointed. It was a priceless little kid moment and a real learning moment for her. It's actually my favorite part of that days recording.
