In Denmark there is a big misconception that you should pull your head back when you get a nosebleed, Don't do that! It will just run into your stomach and make you throw up, lean forward, and pinch the top of your nose, preferably with something cold like a wet cloth or an ice bag behind the cloth :) I often have nosebleeds so I've tried this a lot :/

It largely depends on where I'm at. Obviously, if I'm out in public and it happens, I'm out of options but to tilt by head back and drink my own blood unless I want to look like a zombie who just had some fresh brains. If I'm at home though, I'll just let it drip into the sink, I find that it's much more bearable when I do that albeit some times it does take some time for it to stop. Either way, I don't think ingesting some of your own blood will make you nauseated, at least not a little.

I had a period of time where I got multiple nosebleeds a day, and I can tell you that the best way to deal with them is to pinch your nose for 2-3 minutes. Also may seem kinda disgusting, but if you happen to get a lot of nosebleeds, you can sparingly apply vaseline or chapstick to the inside of your nose. I recommend Vaniply, slightly expensive but definitely worth it.
@Gergus7 жыл бұрын
Vaseline and chapsticks dry out even worse once they've worn away, leaving you even more vulnerable. Probably best to stay clear from that.

My nose bled so much regularly that I had to get both my nostrils closed with silver nitrate. It doesn’t happen as regularly now but I remember when it used to happen a couple of times a day and I’d have no time to shield my clothes or whatever I was next to from the waterfall. I’d also have to regularly spit out blood clots and swallow my blood back.
@Creatorsan2 жыл бұрын
How often did your nose bleed? Yesterday I had one for 30 minutes. Saturday I had an hour long one. The sink looked like a murder took place.
@Creatorsan2 жыл бұрын
My nose normally bleeds from the left nostril. I can tell if it stopped because a I spit out a blood clot from my mouth or a blood clot falls out of my nose. I also figured out where is the best place to pinch my nose to clot the blood faster. My nose is big so it took like 30 tries as a kid to figure that out. The amoung of blood I've swallowed and then spit back up as a blood clot is immeasurable.
@DeliaLange2 жыл бұрын
@@Creatorsan Hey, it used to bleed at least once a week. I got the Silver nitrate applied to my blood vessels in my nose and that helped, but that didn't completely stop them. What i did then was go to an ENT (ear, nose & throat) doctor and he told me that my allergies were making it worse, i've always had stuffy, runny noses, sneezing all the time etc & my eyes would always be inflammated as well. He gave me medicine for my allergies and the last time i've had a nose bleed was like 4 months ago i think. I suggest for you to go see a doctor about it if they can do the silver nitrate thingy to your blood vessels in your nose and monitor it from there. If it doesn't get better or only gets a bit better then go see a doctor again like i did. My longest nosebleed was probably about half an hour, to which i had to have a bowl so i could spit out the blood clots in since the water was cut off at that time. But i've never had an hour long one, that's very concerning to me. Hope you fix the issue!
@Creatorsan2 жыл бұрын
@@DeliaLange The length of my nosebleeds differ. I can say the max they will last is 1 hour depending on how much blood there is. My allergies which make my nose run after I eat food does not help. I use a humidifier at night to prevent any nosebleeds from happening at night. (That works.) Imagine your nose ran while and after you eat food for a constant 10 minutes before it goes away. My nose runs if I smell perfume. I think my blood pressure is high 24/7. Sometimes I'll get lucky and the nosebleed doesn't last that long. (Or only a drop comes out) When I was a kid my mother took me to the docter for an hour long nosebleed. The docter said this was normal and the problem will go away when I was older. Yeah that didn't age well.
@DeliaLange2 жыл бұрын
@@Creatorsan 1 hour is NOT normal, especially for a child! that doctor didn't know what he/she was talking about. One time at school i had a 30 min nosebleed and the school nurses were getting concerned and said if it doesn't stop anytime soon they might have to take me to the hospital. Please go see a doctor, i know a lot of people may make you feel like you're exaggerating. But sometimes heavy nosebleeds can mean a blood clotting/ blood disorder in general or maybe really high blood pressure like you said, mention all the things you said to me like your nose running all the time, you having allergies and how long some of your nosebleeds last. I think it was easy for me to get something done about it because my dad who's a doctor took me to the doctor's appointment, so the doctor felt pressure to perform his duty properly and give me the correct treatment instead of just brushing it off as "normal".

I had nosebleeds all the time as a kid. Luckily, I haven't had one in years. I remember one time at recess I was standing beside and kind of behind my friend while we were playing a game. Her hand came up and ended up hitting my nose, and suddenly, my nose was gushing blood. She wouldn't stop apologizing, but I was adamant that she hadn't even hit me hard enough to hurt, my nose just liked to bleed all the time. Funnily enough, I've also had a blood phobia most of my life, but I was so used to the nosebleeds that, if the blood was coming from my nose, I could have cared less.

They have only been very minor, unlike a couple months back when I got a posterior and had to be transported from a army camp I was working at too hospital after constant bleeding at intervals throughout the day (even in the middle of the night) and even with standard treatments the bleeding often went on for 30 to 60+ minutes, blocking the nose just resulted in me coughing blood up. Eventually my officers decided it was too much of a health risk and that's how I got a few days off work.

How to stop a Nosebleed: 1. Lean forward. Do not lean back because swallowing blood is not good for you and it's pretty disgusting having blood flowing down your throat. 2. Put pressure on your nose. Like, press your nostrils shut. This is the method that has helped me the most. or 3. roll up some tissue and stick it up your nose. You can use a tampon but I wouldn't recommend it because it's very likely that you rip open the wound again when you take it out because it sucks up all the blood and leaves your nose dry whereas toilet paper for example only holds so much blood and doesn't leave your nose completely dry. 4. Put a wet cold cloth on the back of your neck. Edit: Explanation in the comments 5. Also sit down and don't run around all the time so your blood pressure won't rise and make the bleeding worse.
@TM-ng2bz7 жыл бұрын
If I've understood correctly, cold makes your blood vessels smaller thus making it easier to stop bleeding as there is less blood near the surface of the skin or nose.
@shadowfire047 жыл бұрын
plus, there's pressure points at the back of your neck useful for things like headaches.

Blood clots, and having a solid large clot far back in the sinuses is worse than just a bad taste, from my experience. I also figured out on my own from all my nosebleeds as a teen that leaning forward and waiting a minute was best.
@zonyae290477 жыл бұрын
My question is who tf do you knoe put tampons in their nostrils when its bleeding
@deadpanhay7 жыл бұрын
A lot of people would prob think to do this still because of the tv shows and teen movies that did this. I cannot think of any specific ones but I know the concept is still in the general collective conscious because I also thought of it and realized that the toilet paper would be a better idea when I read it but hadn't thought to debunk the idea in my mind.

I remember a few years ago I got a really bad nosebleed in the middle of the night without noticing it. I thought that it was simply mucus and kept swallowing it because I didn't want to get out of bed. Then at around 7 AM I could see tiny blood spots on my bed. Then it hit me, I was swallowing blood. The nosebleed wouldn't stop so I went to the bathroom and started vomiting up large clot-like things of blood. It eventually stopped after like 20 mins.

Even after vomitting all the food i keep trying to out something,,well my body keeos trying to do that snd whenever it does all i get in mouth is a bitter taste. Which is an acidic taste. And when i eat to regain my energy within seconds i would vomit that out as well. Even if its water, to juoce to food u name it. Until i howed kyself to a doctor in india

Its not entirely psychological, in fact it follows with the same theory behind getting massages to relieve pain. The "gating" theory is the suggested answer for these phenomenon, that the non painful touch that you provide when you massage or rub an area in pain takes over the pain reception and dominates the brain against the slow pain fibers. If i seem too excited, its cause i am. I just studied pain and other receptors and am glad i can answer questions

Sometimes the intestines (which are just smooth muscle) can spasm which is unpleasant, to say the least. Heat and gentle rubbing (I've been told clockwise because that's the *general* direction digestion goes in.) can relieve the spasm, and therefore the pain. It's not the only cause, but it's one... I've also heard of gas build up, which rubbing could also help move along/diffuse...

I live in Alaska. In the winter, we get ice fog and hoar frost.pretttmuch all the moisture in the air freezes and sticks to everything. Makes the trees real pretty and you have to scrape off your car windows. It also drags the relative humidity down to 15%. Your nose gets so dry it hurts. Ayr saline gel is a God send! Lube up your nose before you go to bed and your nose bleed free.

I had my nose cauterized twice and it was sooooo worth it. The second time, I thought it would never end. They put a nose tourniquet (basically a balloon that pushes out from inside your nose) it hurt like hell for 3 days and when they pulled it out, I started bleeding again! Its been a year and a half and I only blow my nose once a day, unless I have a cold where I have a runny nose, and I never pick the right nostril as it is the source of the blood.
@emo65777 жыл бұрын
Just debunking a common misconception that wasn't mentioned in the video, it's actually safer to tilt your head forward rather that back when you get a nosebleed. That way, blood is less likely to trickle down your throat and cause vomiting (I am aware that that was mentioned when he talked about symptoms of posterior nosebleeds though)
@MGSLurmey7 жыл бұрын
Is that so? Could you please provide sources for this as if it's true, I'll spread that around like a virus so people know how to better deal with them.

I just bent forward to avoid massive painful clots developing far back in the sinuses. It will stop on its own as long as you don't have a clotting disorder. (Headaches and shooting out a glass covered slug the next day hurt like heck.)

Can stress cause nosebleeds? In 2019, I was stressed out because I was studying hard in a doctoral program while working full-time (10hrs p/day), and also started a new relationship, and tried to balance it all, and had nosebleeds every 2 or 3 days. When my requirements decreased, my nosebleeds stopped for about 4 years. Recently, I've been studying hard for an important National Licensing exam, and my nosebleeds have returned. Back then, my girlfriend said it was most likely because of the seasonal change, but she was surprised to see the long gap in years of not having them, and then seeing them return. It could be a coincidence, but I was wondering if stress is somehow related to nosebleeds. In any case, the real question is, "So, what if it is? What are you going to do about it?" I will try to relax. That's a good practice, regardless. 😂
