😂😂😂 build up for that summer then show us that ice hahaha. Wow did not know Chicago is cold for 9 months of the year. Transport n housing seems pretty easy and affordable though. Which is awesome. Love the diversity of people and food too! Awesome city sold on coming (in summer) 😂

I am born & raised in Chicago...and saying Chi is cold 9 months out of the year is one helluva reach. There are three definite months COLD cold (Jan, Feb, and Mar). Apr & May you linger back and forth between 45ish degrees and 60ish degrees. By June, it is consistently above 70 and doesn't fall back down until about September. Oct, Nov, Dec...you flirt with 50s and above freezing. Winters are definitely less intense than years past, it's the now that kicks your ass.

I was born and raised in Chicago from 1946 to 1972 when we moved to Wisconsin, then Little Rock, then San Diego, then Merritt island, Florida, now back to San Diego. Chicago is still my favorite place. When we were young, we had hot dog stands all around town, usually located on the corner of a gas station. And Vienna dogs are the best, served on a steamed bun, just like the one you just bought. Love Chicago! ❤️

It's a strange question, really. It seems that out of all the major cities, moving to Chicago, let alone staying for more than five years, tends to be questioned despite NYC also suffering similar winters while LA is sprawling and has traffic. People who ask such a question simply do not know why Chicago is Chicago.

Hi, Boricua here. Really want to move Chicago and loved the video, must have watched it like 3 times haha. I've looked into moving to Uptown (near Wilson station), Edgewater, and the West Town/Humboldt Park area. I really like the idea of being in the West Town/Humboldt park area because I feel like it would make me feel at home, but don't know how safe/unsafe any of the areas and people online seem to have mixed opinions about safety everywhere except maybe south side and West Humboldt. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you
@KimchiAndBeansVideos
@KimchiAndBeansVideos 5 жыл бұрын
Hi there!!! That's awesome! We live in Edgewater and love it. We're close to the red line and a few buses, close to the lake and Argyle Street and Andersonville. Highly recommended. Humboldt Park is much safer now, there are some good areas. Check out Logan Square too. When you go online, be careful. Some people in Chicago could have very passionate opinions about things. I recommend you come here if you can and explore, ask around the neighbors and business owners in the area to know what's really happening. We're telling you this because we heard terrible things about Edgewater before we moved here and it turns out this is a safe and fun neighborhood to be in. You have to be careful late at night like anywhere else, but we've been happy here.

I have lived in Chicago for 20+ years, and different states for the last 10 years. Chicago is freezing for November, December, January, February at the least! That is 4 months right there. Then it can snow and always foes in March and sometimes in April. If it doesn’t snow in April it is always cloudy and rains about 20+ days in April and May. June starts to get hot but if it snowed in April then June is super rainy. The only months you don’t need a coat is July, August, September but by the end of september it can get low 40s as warmest temp. So yes he is right. Unless you live in Chicago then you have no idea! So the Miami comment is very ignorant lol

Wow that’s a really good description. I grew up in the NYC area. But I lived in Chicago for 2 years. Chicago felt like home right away. I rented a basement on the south side and my landlord and her crew treated me like a brother. They were fascinated by my Jersey accent and fast paced ways. I was intrigued by the fact that Sunday dinner and the holiday season seemed to be very important to many people there I found it refreshing. Yes crime is a problem I won’t to deeply into that except to say NYC and Jersey gun laws are the strictest so it’s more of a deterrent. Even the church and gospel in Chicago seemed ingrained in the culture. Which I believe added to the sense of togetherness. I lived in Morgan Park and was always able to park right in front of the house(new experience). I had great neighbors as well. Most people seemed genuinely happy to meet someone who wanted to move to Chicago and not complain that it wasn’t NYC. I live in Atlanta now but Chicago will always be special to me.

It’s nice to see a positive video about Chicago. I was born and raised in Chicago and have lived here my whole life. I have such a love and affection for this whole city, honestly even the “bad” areas. Yes the city does have its issues but I think the media does a good job at making it seem like the entire city is crime ridden and up in flames which is totally not the case lol. and as I’m writing this you show WOLFY’S!!! That was my favorite place to eat in high school 🥰 This video made me really happy, thank you!

Amen! We also share your love for the city. It is indeed not perfect, but sadly if you type Chicago in Google or KZbin a lot of the videos are so negative and there's so much positive to show. We've been very happy here for the past 7 years, all struggles aside. We're bias towards Wolfy's, probably because it was our first Chicago hot dog! It's sooo good!

Finally a video not bashing Chicago. I consider myself well traveled and I’ve lived here my whole life. Having traveled to other cities, you quickly appreciate Chicago. The city is so much cleaner than other cities, the diversity of cuisine, and as far as big cities are concerned definitely the housing. We rent a 4 story townhouse with a 2 car garage, an outdoor space for $2500, we’d never find that in L.A. or NY.

Nice Video ! We live in Chicago since the 90's and simply love it. We have visited San Diego, LA, San Francisco ( and other cities) and they are beautiful and the weather awesome as you know, but Chicago has something that makes you feel good. There is something about the people in Chicago & suburbs, it's about the mentality, personality, etc, that makes you feel good. Every city/state has a unique personality & we are happy here & specially when you experience the season's transitions. Every fall, we driver Northwest to Galena Il, for Pizza and a beer. Spring/ Summer, are very busy with gardening & in the winter you can go slide on the snow hills & stop for Pizza (again) and head home to watch a good movie. CHICAGO te queremos !

If you dont have any kids this is ok for you. $1k month for 700sqft place studio will not work for most people. I love Chicago born and raised little village/Pilsen area.I just don't like what the city is doing to hispanic and black communities buying up real estate and raising rent up to $2k for a 2 bedroom apartment. Now suburbs are taking the hit with new low income section 8 housing, many suburbanites are voting on No to new section 8 housing developments. Property decreasing in suburban homes with these new developments. Don't forget about the taxes ridiculous. I pay $4800 a year for a $1,020sqft single family home, family and friends I know are paying well anywhere between 6-11K a year in taxes. its crazy

That is very true, Chago. We've been saving up for years to be able to buy a fixer-upper where we currently are, close to Rogers Park. We do feel the pain when we have our parents come over for extended periods of time. We wish we had a second room, but can't afford it. However, we still love our city and neighborhood and will fight to stay here for as long as possible. We rather pay $1K here than whatever they charge in California for a way lower salary.

I've lived Overseas, on the East Coast, the West Coast and in the South. But there's something about Chicago...something about the people....I've not found elsewhere. There seems to be a humility and a concern for other's feelings...in the fabric of the city. Don't know why. Is it because of their religious back ground? Is it in their varied European and Asian roots? Is it because the "closeness" of city and the people, that by necessity, requires they live in daily contact with so many other human beings.....that MOLDS them into being like that? One of my life's..."great mysteries".

It's a techy/artisty city, ie more lefty-ish people, also a more diverse community (race/ethnically) results in more acceptance (less racism), and that drives you away from more extremist right stuff. Also just in general: younger communities are typically just more accepting of others. Among other things.

How do you afford it? Seems like a family needs at least 80k to live there with the high cost of living. I live about 50 minutes from Chicago and cant afford to go down with my wife or kids for events because of how expensive everything is there and taking the Metra down just doesnt work well with toddlers. Diverse food and events are great, but you have to have the extra money after bills to pay them. With property taxes all going up, it means your rent is going to go up. 700 sq feet is rough too. All the best to you two however if you can make it.
