Why do we point to the sky when speaking about Allāh? - Dr. Hamza Bekri ​⁠

Imam al-Nawawī رحمه الله said: …the point of the hadith was to test the slave girl: Was she a monotheist, who affirmed that the Creator, the Disposer, the Doer, is Allah alone and that He is the one called upon when a person making supplication (du'a) faces the sky--just as those performing the prayer (salat) face the Kaaba, since the sky is the qibla of those who supplicate, as the Kaaba is the qibla of those who perform the prayer--or was she a worshipper of the idols which they placed in front of themselves? So when she said, In the sky, it was plain that she was not an idol worshipper [Sahih Muslim bi Sharh al-Nawawi. 18 vols. Cairo 1349/1930. Reprint (18 vols. in 9). Yes my brother.. This is exactly what Imam Nawawi said.. وكذا قال كثير من العلماء .. والحق ان المعتريدية و الاشاعرة انما هم اهل السنة و الجماعة .... واكثر العلماء كانوا من هاتين الجماعتين ....

Allaah is not in the sky. Imaam ^Aliyy and many other schoalrs said before creating the place, the sky, the earth, Allaah existed and didn’t need these places. Allaah does not need the throne nor the sky to exist. So why do we raise our hands to the sky when we do dua^aa’? Because the sky is the qiblah of the dua^aa’ just like the ka^bah is the qiblah for prayer. It was mentioned also the prophet peace and blessings be upon him even placed his hands towards the ground when making dua^aa’. Allaah exists without being in a direction

Didn’t Al-Bayhaqi literally affirm that Allah is above His Throne

No one denies the aboveness of Allah. However, it is not an above in terms of direction and place, but rather of status. Allah is above everything in status, and he is exalted from the six directions abs places and other attributes of the creation

@@mz8452 wait I confused him with Al-Baqillani. Al Baqillani is the one who affirmed literal aboveness of Allah over the Throne
