Why do we take 0.42D as crank length of a bent up bar? | Derivation of 0.42D | Civil Tutor

Cranked bars are provided in RCC members to resist negative bending moments. These bars are provided in slabs as well as in beams since these members are subjected to tensile stresses.
The Inclined length is known as crank length and is taken as 0.42D. where, D is the c/c distance between the top and bottom main bars.
