Buying used over buying new ultimately still comes down to value and availability. If you can get it new for a little more than what's available used, meaning you're getting a complete kit plus a new manufacturer's warranty, then that's an evaluation to be made. I've done both. And yes, envy is bad. Envy is bad. Envy is bad. Envy is bad. Envy. Is. Bad...

Great point. I have an older pentax K-50. And does great job... however ive been wanting since the beggining the k-1. So that would be one expense I'd be ok with. But your right. And even woth the one failure the pentax k50 could have it's still worth it getting it fixed with updated part. I bought some lights recently thinking they would be a great idea... nope 30 bucks wasted. However I have a different use for them. Thanks for the reminder that the newest isn't always nessisary.

I don't know how many photographers I have seen dig their own graves with new equipment debt. I always say what I look for is reliability and durability. I had to explain that DSLR cameras did not suddenly stop working when mirror cameras came out. I asked them which makes more sense economically to buy the latest Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2. for $3000 or to buy the Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 AF-S which costs $350 (which I own). Part of it is they watch KZbin and get caught up in the hype of a sponsored shooter. Bloody Baka if you ask me.

We do need people to buy new cameras though, so that they can shoulder the depreciation hit and provide the used market with bargains for the savvy photographers. So I would encourage anyone who's inclined to buy a new camera to please do so. As often as possible!

Agree on kit manufacture changes. My first SLR 35mm was a Chinon CE4 with a 35-135 zoom. I later bought a Canon EOS600. Redundancy forced sale. I was later given a Minolta 5000 35mm with 28-80 zoom. When digital started I bought a used Konica Minolta 5D. Of course the A-mount lenses fit. I bought a new Sony SLT-A57 in 2014 with 18-55 zoom and later a Tamron 70-300 zoom and a Sony 50mm f1.4. It has done me well. Especially with the movie function. When Sony brought out the E-mount cameras I was tempted. However, I noted that many had been tempted and A-mount equipment started flooding the used market. I've since picked up prime and zoom lenses along with SLT-A77 and SLT-A58 bodies. These really are cheap but perform perfectly for my needs (cutting edge a decade ago) and much of it is little used and in pristine condition. I'm finding lenses as low a £19 on eBay including postage. Another lesson, don't buy too much but given this kit is older now, at least I have built-in redundancy should anything fail.

Again, it is not about buying used, it's about buying correctly. You are right, people shouldn't go out buying what they don't need, BUT (as you usually say) smart people buy new at the price of second hand market. This means if you need to capitalise that money back, it comes in untouched. Investigate taxes in the EU, Amazon business in foreign countries and take advantage of while the EURSS doesn't end it.
@bronzepodcast

Example: Amazon Spain Nikon Z6II is now at 1.4k without taxes. Nikon ZF 1.8k in Amazon Germany, no taxes. it is money out, but If things go wrong, money comes in again with minimal losses.

One major reminder is that "Time is Money" doesn't always just refer to how much time you have, but how urgently you can deliver when needed. If you have 3 months of nothing followed by a massive gig that requires final delivery in 48 hours, efficiency still is really important. Not relevant for everyone, for sure, but IMO, if you can deliver quality in half the time as your competitor that alone may be the differenciator that gets you the job. Its one area I've always made a point of staying in the cutting edge of in portrait photography. I want everyone I work with to be shocked by how quickly I deliver a polished final result because that reflects very well on me. (And makes my competitors look like bozos) If I had a dollar for every time someone has expressed surprise that I deliver in a week when they are used to most photographers taking a month or a quarter or even a year to deliver work I'd be rich. I'm able to do this because I've spent a ton of time honing my craft, not just for quality, but also for efficiency but I'd be remiss if I didn't also give some credit to my wallet which bought me tools that give me an efficiency advantage such as things like a faster computer, faster transfer speeds, etc.

Photography is a technology driven industry, it has been since 1822 when the first photo was taken. With every advancement there are the photographers on the forefront of what’s possible and those being left behind. I’ve been a professional photographer for 25 years, because I keep right at the forefront of what’s technical possible, always delivering my clients the best possible imagery using the latest advancements in photographic equipment. I’ve seen many changes during that 25 years, and I can tell you, I’ve seen many photographers leave the industry because they failed to keep up with emerging technologies, whether it was film to DSLRs, photoshop, high power battery powered strobes, mirrorless cameras, eye autofocus, video, high power LED lighting, and now AI, if you don’t keep up with the latest technology, you’ll eventually be gone. Every new technology pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved photographically, as well as driving down the cost to produce the images. If you can produce the same quality images as other photographers but for 30% less cost using newer technology, you’ll be in business in 2 years and they won’t.

What are your thoughts on meditation, and also do you believe in the "law of attraction" ? There's some serious cult like stuff with the latter, but generally I think a positive mindset and acting like you already are/have the things you want is good.

Ive tried meditation but its not for me. The law of attractions an odd one. I like the positive mental attitude side of it, but I don't buy into the full thing. All a bit cult like for me. I know a few people who relied on it to get places, they didnt get there because they didnt put the work in and spent too long "manifesting" it.

Saving is important, but how much? You can also save too much. How much money should you have saved? 2 years of salary is enough. Of course you shouldn't throw your money out the window. But every now and then you should buy something that makes you happy. Financing a hobby or something like that. Being the richest person in the cemetery shouldn't be the goal in life.

Save as much money as quickly as possible so that you can invest it and retire early so you can be an amateur photographer, which is much better because you can do whatever you like instead of working for others. @@HankTVsux If I watch a video about photography, KZbin's algorithm will suggest other videos about photography to me. It will suggest videos that have a certain amount of popularity. If this video reaches a certain higher level of popularity through having a clickbait title than if it didn't, then it is playing into the downward spiral of feeding KZbin's algorithm with clickbait in order to be more popular. I really respect content creators who discuss niche topics and know their audience will find them through doing good work, not going for desperate attention grabs. But the more I watch this channel, the more it reminds me of one of those day-traders who tells you their secrets to being successful like them, when really they primarily are a successful KZbinr not a day trader.
