I've been told several times we should just pick the rocks by hand....I show why we need the rock picker. Speed, Efficiency and the size of the rocks...

Now that was a boulder you picked!! Nice job explaining things for people who've never been around a farm. 👍🏻

The difference between Minnesota and central Illinois is like the difference between day & night! I picked a few rocks out of the field - one was a stone axe head (which I still have). I preached for a small country church in Minnesota, back 1994 to 1999. I had family from central Illinois come visit. They asked a farmer in the church if he'd mind if they took some rocks back home. He said, "Go ahead! Please, take them all!" We had a good laugh about that, after they went home! (Now I'm back in Illinois.)

I pick rocks every year. We use a Degelman 660 Signature and also pick rocks by hand into the bucket. It never ends. On my tombstone, it will say the rocks won.

It's our farm operation belief that if you don't smooth off your wheel tracks on the ends, water has a better chance of sitting in them and drowning the seed..

Did you find the boulder before ploughing or discing the field? I would imagine most plowing implements hitting that would have given a giant clue as to it's presence under the soil! :D A modified channel digger could also find plenty of rocks if they could be modified to screen the rocks out of the soil and let the soil fall through. They're usually used to pick up large stretches of asphalt and normally make truckloads of whatever they're channeling out of the ground.

I’ve had the same thought. It would work but very expensive. Cheaper to run a ripper over a paddock and then scoop out any visible rocks. Some rock picker can sift a little deeper than this one.

What GPS are you using on the planter? It seems like the front wheels are moving quite a bit back and forth 0:38.
