Andy. There's a term in media/psychology (one of my fields as a professor) about parasocial relationships, i.e., when viewers feel they have developed a relationship with the performer they have been viewing, but it is not possible for the object of that relationship to reciprocate. As someone who has been viewing your posts on this platform for > 3 years, I have a sense of a relationship even though I know we've never actually met. You know from my comments on your channel how much I have appreciated both its content, but a sense of you as a physician-in-progress who exemplifies what any of us who hope to see in our doctors. A lot of admiration. A lot of gratitude for the amazing effort you have marshaled to be both a medical student/resident and a content creator. Were you to decide, as you will some day, to leave this platform, there is some kind of grief and loss I will experience simply because your vids have been so meaningful to me for such a long time. I'm a lot, a lot older than you in my 70s. but always say briefly, prayers. Whatever you decide is best for you as the terrific doctor you have already shown you are, I will continue to feel grateful for the amazing journey you have been sharing with us. Thanks, Andy. And I love the sight of The Bean in Chicago's Millennium Park, one of my favorite places and cities in the US. You're right that a residency in Chicago might mean five rather than four years since it is a place of such wonders. And I'll end with ❤

Real talk who cares what WE want to see 😭 make what makes you happy, and only when you want to/can budget that extra time. It’s your channel, not ours. Those of us who see it will appreciate and enjoy whatever you choose to discuss or make, regardless of the topic. Those that don’t won’t be there to have an opinion over it. And at the end of the day like you said, it’s art and you should be proud of it.

Haha I appreciate it. Wish so many others could see this too but it never feels good to post things that you feel like your audience wouldn’t be impacted by. It’s a delicate balance

And then there is the pre-med college student audience. I am a pre-med student who has a side hustle/business doing videography and photography I love your content because I can tell you have a deep interest in visual art, but you are a doctor who found a way to combine your two loves. I believe that you have a large audience that'll stick around even if you quit posting as much medical content and start posting more about your hobbies, because it shows doctors are human. Your channel tells me that somehow when I am an MD, I won't have to totally put aside my love for cameras and storytelling for my career. You creating what you want to create inspires pre-meds like me to do the same.

Not for everyone, but one activity I've found a great source of reflection and fulfillment is writing during my training. I can reflect on the stories I experience and share them with a group of people that not only appreciate it, but provide a different perspective. It keeps the 12 hours I'm in the hospital in perspective. You have a lot of stories to share. It's about finding the write way to document, reflect, and use them. If nothing else, a patient taught me that the best thing you can do as a doctor is keep their stories in you. The truth is that you are acquiring stories that are effecting who you are now to use later on when you have more time. I suppose one could say that patients are giving us a library of experiences to pull from in our own life and to be creative in other areas.
@NDMDКүн бұрын
Absolutely agree that patients give you the best stories and help shape your own in so many ways. Videos sometimes are what I hope to use to somehow share those stories and lessons patients pass on to me, but figuring out the best wha to do that while respecting them and my time has been one of the most difficult challenges. My writer friends love this medium

I’ve rlly wondered about this so often! I wondered if medical creators always made the content bc that’s what u enjoyed; why Cellini seemed to just drop off the map, etc. Thank u for these answers. I have done so well to humanize medical creators Andy! I left medicine bc of how toxic it is and am finding my way in tech. Thank u for doing this
@NDMDКүн бұрын
It’s both something we enjoy and something that we consider a responsibility. But like Cellini, priorities change over time and social media is always a temporary investment. Family, partners, those are what last forever

Sometimes people compare from music career to social media career because some musicians do has short music career or long-term music career.

If I was a anesthesiologist I would still do social media so other people could learn, I really enjoy donating to the anesthesiologist foundation, since it was hard for me to go to college because of my cerebral palsy, I have always wanted to be a anesthesiologist since I was a kid, it’s were my heart is, I’m a country masculine gay guy, do you like hocking loogies? I do it’s a guy thing 😂! 😂can’t drive because of my cerebral palsy, so I’m gonna lease my all electric car and let others drive it for me!
