The reason the witch waited until the kids were fat was because back in the day you really could only cook things slowly over a fire due to the whole no electricity thing. If the meat you are cooking that way has a low fat content it will turn out dry. A high fat content will turn out nice and juicy, fall off the bone.

The comment I was looking for! If you want soft meat made in a cauldron or a wood oven you need fat, there's no way around it.

Fat also gives the meat flavour. And since it was the time before non stick frying pans fat could be used to It’s also possible that witch just liked sweet tasting meat. It’s a process some farms do when they’ll feed the animal hazelnuts for example to achieve a hazelnutty taste in the meat.

I think you underestimate just how hot wood or rows coal fueled fire can be. Think about it: can you heat your iron frying pan to a decree where it is red hot? Because the existence of forging proves that this is possible with fire.

I think the witch was going more for "let's get some actual meat on those bones first" instead of "yum, fat's tasty". The whole reason the psycho step-mom/simp dad were getting rid of the kids was they were all starving to death. The kids were so malnourished that when Hansel used a stick to impersonate his finger, it actually worked. I mean, she's not exactly the smartest witch of the wood, but still...that's a bony kid. And did I just learn a cooking tip in a thread about a witch cannibalizing kids? Yes, yes I did 😂 No lean meats in stews for me!

Fun fact! The story of Hansel and Gretel was actually based on the great depression. Food was very scarce if there at all and most families could not afford to feed their entire household. Because of this, children were often abandoned or eaten by their family to save or obtain more food. The witch in the story is also based on these events as some people would try and lure those lost children into their homes with food so they could eat them. It was a really really bad time.

I usually remember my dreams and even lucid dream pretty frequently. Usually, dreams where I'm stressed out reflect stresses I'm going through in life. I often have dreams of being chased, which means I don't have security. I recently realized my ex in dreams represents abandonment feelings for me, since your brain is using dreams to store memories. So, the memory of abandonment with the ex shows up, even though I'm entirely over that breakup in 2011 lol. Dreams don't really try to tell you anything, they just represent your current state of mind.

Hello, I'm a german bookworm person, and I grew up reading the Brother Grimm tales from a book that belonged to my great grandma and are pretty much the originals, so here is how the original Hänsel and Gretel goes, translated by me: There once was a Lumberjack and his wife, who lived in the woods with their two children, a boy named Hänsel and a girl named Gretel. They were poor and starving, so one evening the parents decide to go into the woods with their children and leave them behind to starve to death or get killed by animals. The mother was the one who came up with that plan and the father was sad and kind of didn't want to but ended up going along with the idea anyway so he is just as guilty honestly. Anyway, Hänsel overheard the parents horrible plan, and collected pebbles. As the next day came, the children and the father went into the forest to collect wood, and Händel secretly dropped a pebble every few steps, which formed a path back to their house. The father left under the pretens to chop some wood a few ways down, and the children were on their own. they waited but when their father didn't return they followed the path of pebbles Hänsel hat layed. As they arrived savely back home, their parents where shoked to see their kids alive and hungry. The next day the father went into the woods with Hänsel and Gretel again, but this time they only had bread with them to lay a path back home. The father left them alone again, and again didn't return, but this time as the children were looking for the path to lead them home, they could only find birds eating the last bit of their path. They didn't know how to get home and started wandering around aimlessly. Eventually, night fell and they were more hungry then ever, having not even eaten a single piece of their daily bread. That was when they came across a house made out of sugarbread and cake. The children started eating as much as they possibly could, when they heard an old voice from inside say: "crisp, crisp, crumple, who is crisping on my house?" (and then in some versions, though not the original Grimm version the kids first answer "the wind, the wind, the heavenly child" before the old lady steps outside) the children don't answer but the door opens and an old lady, that is not officialy a witch, exits the house. "oh you poor, thin, litte children, you must be starving. come in, and have a meal with me" the old women says, and Hänsel and Gretel follow her inside. They eat like they have never eaten before, and when they were filled and happy, the old women showed them to two beds, which were softer then they had ever known beds to be. But when Hänsel woke up, he was in a cage, and Gretel was scrubbing the floor and cleaning pots. The old women had imprisoned Hänsel and forced Gretel to work for her as a maid. As the old women noticed Hänsel had woken up, she opened the cage door to give Hänsel a bunch of food. "Eat!" she commands Hänsel, "You are but skin and bones, I want to eat you, but first you need to fatten up" So Hänsel ate, and Gretel cleaned. Days passed, and the old lady starts to check on Hänsel by asking for his Finger, "I want to see if you are fat enough yet" she said every time when she commanded Hänsel to put his finger through the cage rods. But Hänsel was clever and gave her a chicken bone instead. The old lady, didn't notice it, since she was going blind. Happens with age, y'know. Anyway, eventually the old women grew tired of waiting. "Gretel, put on the oven and make sure its hot! Today I'll eat your brother". Gretel did as she was told, but, being as clever as Hänsel, asked the old women: "Is the oven hot enough yet? I can't tell, I am to small." So the old women, annoyed at the siblings, opened the oven and leaned in, but in that moment Gretel pushed the old women into the oven and locked the door. She freed Hänsel and ran. Thats the end for a few versions, including the very first that was written down, but most versions, including the book I have end like this: As the old lady burned, the presure became too much on the oven pipes (or whatever) and the house exploded. Hänsel and Gretel found beneath it lots of gold and jewels, grabbed as many as they could find and finally found their way home, where their parents welcomed them back with tears and open arms, possibly mainly because they had money now and wouldn't die of starvation, and not because they loved their kids or anything. But yeah, thats that tale, I'm sorry if I made any spelling or grammar errors, I'm dyslexic and basically self-taught. I hope the few of you that read this comment enjoyed it :)

She was asserting her right not to be knocked out and dragged into a cave. Sadly the reaction was as it has been ever since....I should have known better, you were wearing sensible shoes. She punched him again, because, well, they only wore rags on their feet. Finally joke t-shirts...the world has become slowly more and more boring as time has progressed, perhaps we are living in our own Sims 4 reality and we are just characters that were passed over from the second and third iterations of the game...

actually, it's an oven not a caldron. and kids in ovens was actually a thing that was done by medieval midwives to keep babies warm (of course the oven was not hot, just still warm after the actual cooking was done).

Historian here: Sarah… you are correct. We would not know how they would’ve felt but I do imagine the first fist fight would have been an interesting thing, probably over mates or food/resources like you hypothesized. Testosterone/ adrenaline does some weird shiz. I could get more in depth but well… it would get more controversial in the end. I hope this helps, keep making awesome content 💙

Auditory Processing delay. That’s what it is :3 when your brain takes time to understand/process information. There is a bunch of different types and disorders that cause it!

@@MidnightHowling It can be interesting! Just google (or what ever search engine you prefer) 'How many types of processing disorders are there?' or 'processing delay disorder' and it will likely show you a multitude of websites to explain the types and connecting disorders. There is 8 different types for the visual processing, and 5 for auditory processing which I find uber amazing. I can link two website that briefly explain what each types sub type?

@@MidnightHowling Hey, just went to check if you'd replied to the links and saw they've disappeared. I'm not sure if that was a glitch or if FGG's comments automatically blocked it because it was two web links. But, if you haven't searched it, the two links I'd suggested were from 'GemmLearning' and 'Chruchill centre & School' and it should be rather easy to find with the key words. I won't post the links again just incase it's FGG's settings. Hopefully you did find things interesting.

I miss the burglars and the therapist from the Sims 2.... and also the fact that in the Sims 2 you can have your sims paint custom pictures from your computers gallery once they reached level 5. Like, i had my sims decorate their room with hello kitty and photos of pokemon. It was so fun!

If you want to place the same thing multiple times like the fence at 2:35 you can hold shift while placing it. That way you can directly place it again and don't have to select it from the menu every time. Really helps me when landscaping =)

I've been writing my dreams down for years just for fun and I advise everyone to do the same, that shit it so fucking depressing but also so fucking funny sometimes, Just today, I had Dobby from Harray Potter walk into my living room that was under a pergola, meaning I had no walls and snails and other tiny animals invaded my house.. uh.. Yeah anyway, DObby was there and he behaved like he had ADHD, like the man was speeding and my roommate told him to amp it down and Dobby was like: What are you going to do to me? I'm like Nine years old! And then when I woke up I had an existential crisis not knowing if Dobby was a kid or not.... I know it now, but jesus Christ xD
